Suddenly, in the darkness of the night, they saw two beams of light approaching. Someone was coming up the mountain at this late hour. They prepared to greet the newcomers, but as soon as they stepped outside, they witnessed an incredible scene. Two figures were rapidly making their way along the mountain path, but instead of heading towards the mine, they took a shortcut towards the mountain peak—indeed, they seemed to be flying. According to the university students who witnessed it, the two individuals leaped effortlessly onto a massive rock about four or five meters high and then disappeared into the forest with their flashlights. Although they couldn't see the people themselves, the speed of their movements was evident from the beams of light.
The sight left the students dumbfounded. Initially, they thought the two might be ghosts, but then realized that it was impossible; after all, ghosts wouldn't carry flashlights. Having watched martial arts dramas before, they quickly speculated that perhaps these were martial arts masters.
These university students were quite bold; despite their fear, their curiosity grew stronger. They wanted to know what those two were doing climbing the mountain at night and even considered sneaking after them. Ultimately, however, they decided against it and instead watched from a distance, using the flashlight beams to remember the general location of the two figures.
About an hour later, the two individuals descended quickly without noticing the students who had been spying on them.
The next day, driven by a spirit of adventure and armed with their notes from last night, the students set out to investigate. They headed towards "Dragon Eye Pool," a deep pool located in Qingyi Mountain's dense forest. Decades ago, during a time of material scarcity, people would venture up the mountain to gather firewood for cooking and heating. As a result, much of Qingyi Mountain's wood had been depleted. Many who entered the deep woods for firewood would quench their thirst directly from Dragon Eye Pool's water. The water there was cool and crystal clear year-round. Legend had it that a dragon resided in the depths of the pool. As for how deep Dragon Eye Pool was, someone had measured it with a rope and found it to be around thirty to forty meters deep. No one knew what lay beneath it; after all, it was said that Dragon Eye Pool had never dried up, with water levels fluctuating by no more than ten centimeters throughout the year.
Many villagers nearby had heard tales of Dragon Eye Pool, including Jiang Chen, who was aware of it since Qingcheng County wasn't far from Qingyi Mountain. However, in this day and age, no one went up to gather firewood anymore; with dense underbrush and shrubs growing wild in the mountains, who would venture into such places for no reason?
Near Dragon Eye Pool, the students found some footprints confirming that those two had indeed come here last night. However, they could not ascertain their purpose.
Determined to uncover more, that evening, the students returned to the mine to wait and see if those two would come back again. Sure enough, on the second night, they appeared once more. This time, however, in a reckless attempt to capture video footage and photos, one student accidentally activated his flash while filming. After that moment, everything went blank. When they regained consciousness, it was morning; they had no idea how they had lost consciousness—only that they felt someone had poked them before everything went dark.
Terrified, they hurried to report what happened to the police. Fortunately, their phones were still intact; however, the videos and photos taken in darkness were completely unclear.
Although local police found this incident rather bizarre, they did not take it lightly. They suspected that perhaps these two individuals were poachers or tomb raiders since there were ancient tombs on Qingyi Mountain that had been looted a few years prior. The higher authorities were quite concerned about such matters; after all, during this festive season, another tomb robbery could not be allowed to happen again. Thus, local police decided to investigate further that night.
