Ming Xiting and Ye Chen were engaged in a lively conversation, and before they knew it, dusk had settled in, casting a deepening darkness across the sky.
At Ye Chen's home, Ming Xiting felt the invisible pressure emanating from Pei Guanjing as he had two meals without any intention of leaving. It seemed he was determined to stay for several days.
Noticing this, Pei Guanjing remained calm and said softly, "A Chen, does your friend plan to stay here for a while?"
Earlier, in his own yard, Ming Xiting had only caught a fleeting glimpse of Pei Guanjing and Xiao Douya. However, after spending an entire day at Ye Chen's house, he understood why Ye Chen, possessing the soul of a modern man, would want to have a child with this man.
The reason was simple: Pei Guanjing's face was three times more handsome than the shameless person he had seen on the street earlier who bullied children.
Though Pei Guanjing wore a plain robe, his extraordinary and ethereal demeanor could not be concealed. Just sitting quietly there made him resemble a breathtaking painting of an immortal descending to the mortal realm.
Yet every time this thought crossed Ming Xiting's mind, whenever Ye Chen or Xiao Douya called him, even if he were truly an immortal, it felt as if he had fallen into the mundane world, tainted by the smoke of human life.
Ye Chen also had plenty to say to Ming Xiting. Finally encountering someone else from the modern world, he wanted to chat for several days. Without thinking much, he replied, "Yes, he will stay for a few days."
Upon hearing this, Pei Guanjing frowned slightly and said, "But there may not be enough beds in the house."
"That's fine. You can stay in my father's room. He is traveling far and wide and won't be back for quite some time. You can use his room for these few days. If that's not suitable, you can share with Xiao Douya," Ye Chen suggested.
Pei Guanjing cast a cold glance at Ming Xiting, his handsome brows knitting tighter. "You want to sleep together with him?"
Ye Chen turned to look at him with a hint of impatience on his face. "What’s wrong? Do you have an issue with it? I’m sharing a bed with my friend; are you going to nitpick? Besides, both he and I are Kun Ze; why are you worrying about it?"
"A Chen, we are already married. As a married Kun Ze, it is inappropriate for you to sleep on the same bed we use every day with him. Moreover, your friend has a noble status; I assume..."
"It's fine, it's fine. I don't mind such things," Ming Xiting quickly interjected, waving his hand to indicate that he was not concerned at all.
Thus, Ming Xiting successfully "took over" Pei Guanjing's spot and ended up sleeping next to Ye Chen.
The night was as dark as ink, thick and impenetrable.
Ming Xiting lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. Beside him, Ye Chen had already drifted into slumber, breathing steadily and evenly. Ming Xiting gently pressed his lips together, quietly got out of bed, put on his clothes, and decided to take a stroll in the courtyard to ease his restless mind.
Although Ye Chen's home was not as spacious as the small courtyard in the Ming residence, it was still more elegant and serene than that of an ordinary merchant family. Some decorations were even more exquisite than those in his own courtyard.
Ming Xiting walked over to a stone bench in the courtyard and slowly sat down, resting his chin on his hands as he gazed dreamily at the bright moon hanging high in the sky.
The moonlight poured down like water, casting a soft halo around him.
Just as Ming Xiting was lost in thought, a faint sound suddenly came from behind him. It was very soft, like someone cautiously stepping on a pile of grass, creating a rustling noise.
Ming Xiting was about to turn around to investigate when the person behind him hurriedly spoke up, "Don't turn around, Ye Chen."
Ming Xiting's eyes widened in surprise. What was going on? Was Ye Chen being so reckless?
Fearing that the person behind would discover he was not Ye Chen, Ming Xiting panicked and quickly lowered his head, burying his face deep in his arms, too nervous to make a sound, afraid of revealing himself.
"I just came to see you. If I see you’re doing well, then I can leave with peace of mind."
Lou Yu took a couple of steps forward and stopped. His gaze was fixed intensely on Ye Chen's silhouette, unable to look away for a long time.
He never expected that after just a year apart, Ye Chen had become so much thinner. Although Kun Ze had already given birth to a child, her waist remained slender as a willow tree, her figure appearing so frail from behind.
Alone at this late hour admiring the moon in the chilly dew, with Pei Guanjing not caring for her—had she suffered some grievances?
With this thought in mind, Lou Yu unconsciously stepped forward again, lowering his voice with concern: "Are you... doing well? Why isn’t Pei Guanjing... with you?"
As Lou Yu drew closer, Ming Xiting buried his head even lower. He was racking his brain for how to respond when this person discovered he was not Ye Chen. But in this extreme tension, his body—still not fully under control—unintentionally released a hint of Xin Xiang.
Ming Xiting could not fully control her Xin Xiang yet, but she managed to keep it from spilling out in front of the crowd. However, everyone has their unstable moments. Whenever Ming Xiting became emotionally charged, a few wisps of Xin Xiang would inadvertently escape.
For ordinary people, this small amount of Xin Xiang might not have any immediate effect. But behind her, Lou Yu was a member of the Tian Qian, and his keen senses quickly detected the anomaly.
"Who are you?" The moment he caught a whiff of the apricot blossom fragrance, Lou Yu's eyes narrowed sharply. In an instant, he darted forward like a bolt of black lightning, gripping Ming Xiting's shoulder tightly and demanding an answer.
Upon closer inspection, Lou Yu realized that this person was actually Kun Ze, the one he had seen earlier that day at the health hall. How could he have confused his back with Ye Chen's?
Before Ming Xiting could explain her identity, she had just lifted her head to speak when Lou Yu knocked her unconscious with a swift strike.
As he looked down at the unconscious Ming Xiting in his arms, Lou Yu cast a complex glance around the surroundings.
If this Kun Ze were to reveal that he had come to see Ye Chen late at night, it could damage Ye Chen's reputation. It would be better to take him away first, keep him quiet until he learned to hold his tongue, and then bring him back.
In just a few breaths, Lou Yu made up his mind. He bent down to carry Ming Xiting horizontally in his arms, furrowing his brow as he turned and leaped over the low wall from which he had just entered, disappearing into the night.
Just after they left, a white shadow quietly emerged from behind one of the courtyard's tall pillars.
It was Pei Guanjing.
He watched Lou Yu take Ming Xiting away with a slight smile playing on his lips, revealing a knowing expression. Then he glanced back at Xiao Douya, who was sleeping soundly inside, and gently closed the door. A glint of darkness flashed in his eyes as he strode purposefully toward Ye Chen's room.
