She understood the weight of Jiang Chen's words. Although the Shyr family was powerful, they would certainly give Jiang Chen the respect he deserved.
"Thank you, Jiang Chen," Lin Bingbing said gratefully.
"Actually, I should be thanking you. Over the past two years while I was away, you spent every New Year with my mom. She has a great impression of you," Jiang Chen replied with a smile.
Jiang Chen had guessed that Lin Bingbing had been spending the New Year with his family based on what Liu Sisi had told him, and later confirmed it with his mother. His mother was no longer worried about her son's marriage, as there were too many beautiful women around him. However, her feelings for Lin Bingbing were somewhat different; after all, Lin Bingbing had accompanied her for three consecutive years during the New Year.
Hearing Jiang Chen mention this, Lin Bingbing's cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"I-I just didn't want to spend New Year at home. I'm happier spending it with your mom," Lin Bingbing said softly.
Jiang Chen chuckled and fell silent.
The two arrived at a restaurant, chatting and eating. Lin Bingbing recounted her first meeting with Jiang Chen, which made him smile.
After finishing their meal, Lin Bingbing invited Jiang Chen to take a stroll by the seaside. Although it was winter, the weather was pleasant and not too cold.
To avoid being disturbed by her family during her "date" with Jiang Chen, Lin Bingbing turned off her phone.
Her parents and siblings grew anxious when they noticed that Lin Bingbing hadn't returned by four in the afternoon and that her phone was unreachable. However, there was little they could do; with Lin Bingbing's phone off in the vast Yulu City, they couldn't find her.
"Bingbing is being so irresponsible. If she doesn't show up tonight, it will be disrespectful to the Shyr family, and the Shi family will definitely be furious. They won't let us off easily," Mother Lin said anxiously, like an ant on a hot pan.
"I think Bingbing knows what's important. Offending the Shyr family will have serious consequences; she should understand that. Let's wait a bit longer—if she returns by six, there might still be a chance," Lin Bingbing's father said.
"The banquet starts at seven-thirty. The Shyr family has invited so many prominent figures tonight; if Bingbing doesn't show up, it will be a huge problem. I shouldn't have let her go out with that guy," Mother Lin lamented, filled with regret.
While Lin Bingbing's family was in a state of panic, she remained unconcerned; having Jiang Chen by her side made her feel secure.
Jiang Chen glanced at the time and suddenly spoke up, "Let's go visit the Shyr family."
"Huh? Why go to the Shyr family? I-I don't want to," Lin Bingbing replied nervously. She felt intimidated by the Shyr family, knowing it was a formidable clan. Although Jiang Chen was powerful, there would be many people present tonight; if he lost his temper and resorted to violence, that was not something Lin Bingbing wanted to witness.
For Lin Bingbing, the best option was to avoid them altogether.
"Tell that Second Young Master of the Shyr family to take back his betrothal gifts; he is not worthy of you," Jiang Chen said firmly.
"Okay then," Lin Bingbing replied, staring at Jiang Chen in surprise and feeling touched as she nodded earnestly. "By the way, Jiang Chen, promise me you won't kill anyone."
"Don't worry; I won't kill anyone tonight," Jiang Chen smiled. After all, his relationship with the Shyr family wasn't too bad; he wouldn't make things difficult for the Shi family—he just needed that Second Young Master of the Shyr family to stop pursuing Lin Bingbing.
Seeing Jiang Chen agree, Lin Bingbing let out a sigh of relief.
"Well, I'll go change into a dress, but I have scars on my body. If I wear an evening gown, it won't be able to hide them, and that would look really bad," Lin Bingbing said.
