However, if they were to back down like this, Qian Wenwu and his group would not be satisfied. The combined assets of their five families amounted to hundreds of billions.
Hmph, so what if they were skilled fighters?
“Boss Jin, have you heard of Tianfu City and Shunlong Group?” Qian Wenwu suddenly asked.
“I’ve heard of them,” Jin Shengkai replied after a moment of thought, nodding.
“My father is the chairman of Shunlong Group, and the parents of my friends are prominent figures in Tianfu City. Are you sure you want to break ties with us?” Qian Wenwu brought up his background, relying on it for intimidation.
However, to Qian Wenwu's dismay, Jin Shengkai merely smiled faintly, showing no fear at all.
“What does Shunlong Group matter? Even if your father is the richest man in Tianfu City, so what? You broke my things; you must compensate me. My patience is limited. Will you pay or not? I’ll ask you one last time,” Jin Shengkai’s tone grew heavier, his expression grim.
“Qian Wenwu, what should we do now?” Xiong Sumei asked anxiously.
“I... I don’t know. Why don’t you just compensate him first?” Without his bodyguards and realizing that invoking their backgrounds was ineffective, Qian Wenwu had turned into a coward.
“I don’t have that much money on me right now,” Xiong Sumei replied helplessly.
“Call your dad and have him transfer the money over,” Qian Wenwu suggested.
“Right, right, Brother Wu is right. Xiong Sumei, you should just pay them first; otherwise, we’ll be in trouble tonight,” Li Chengdu added.
“Sumei, it’s not that we don’t want to help you; we just can’t do anything here. This isn’t Tianfu City after all. You should just part with some money to avoid disaster. We can settle it when we get back to Tianfu City,” Chen Shuifeng said softly.
The sudden shift in the situation caught Xiong Sumei off guard, and now her friends were unreliable as well.
“Fine, I’ll call my dad for the money, but he’s definitely going to scold me again,” Xiong Sumei said helplessly. A million was something her father could manage; however, giving away a million like this would surely earn her father’s reprimand. Moreover, Xiong Sumei felt a sense of injustice within herself.
“This is my business card; my bank account number is on it. Just have your dad transfer the money there,” Jin Shengkai said with a smile as he handed her a business card.
Jin Shengkai was a local bully whose vast fortune had been amassed through extortion. He wasn’t asking for an outrageous sum; a million wasn’t too much for a wealthy person. Even if someone felt aggrieved in the end, they would likely let it go due to the trouble involved.
Of course, anyone who mingled in this world had their own connections. Although Jin Shengkai operated in this small county town, his backing was substantial enough that he dared not to take Qian Wenwu and his wealthy friends seriously.
“Miss Xiong, I think you should come eat with me instead; it’s too noisy over there,” a voice suddenly broke through the oppressive atmosphere just as Xiong Sumei was about to call her father.
This voice was familiar to Xiong Sumei.
She glanced over at Jiang Chen and saw him looking at her.
Xiong Sumei’s expression changed slightly as she quickly signaled Jiang Chen with her eyes not to get involved; this was not something he could meddle in.
Jin Shengkai turned to look at Jiang Chen and, seeing just a young man, immediately lost interest.
"This kid, could he be trying to be a hero and save the damsel in distress? Xiong Sumei, it seems he really has taken a liking to you. For your sake, he's willing to risk his life. Now he's even bold enough to stand up; quite the audacity," Qian Wenwu said with a chuckle.
