Brother Xi's face drained of color, leaving only panic as I caught him red-handed.
He fumbled to close the interface on his screen.
"You... you... you must have seen it wrong! I didn't do anything!"
I let out a cold laugh and pointed at his screen.
"Did nothing? Then why do you have my client's management page open on your computer?"
"I saw everything, Brother Xi. Stop struggling."
Seeing that he couldn't deny it any longer, Brother Xi decided to go all in.
"So what if you saw it! Who told you to offend me?"
"I'll just delete your data. What are you going to do about it?"
He wore a defiant expression, as if he were a dead pig unafraid of boiling water.
I crossed my arms and said slowly,
"Brother Xi, I forgot to tell you."
"My system operations here have detailed logging enabled."
"And every time I input important data, I make a local backup."
"You delete it once, I restore it once, and I also get another record of your malicious actions."
I shook my phone, showing the backend log that I had just screenshot.
Brother Xi's eyes were nearly popping out.
"You... you're scheming against me!"
"We're colleagues! Do you really need to be this ruthless?"
I smiled.
"Big Brother, you were the one who started this."
"Maliciously destroying company data and disrupting a colleague's normal work—if this gets reported to Manager Zhang or directly to the inspection department..."
"What do you think the company would do?"
"Also, this client is a major deal that I worked hard to secure. If the signing gets delayed because of data issues in the next few days, the loss... Brother Xi, who do you think will be held responsible?"
As soon as money deductions and penalties were mentioned, Brother Xi completely wilted.
The arrogance on his face vanished in an instant, replaced by a fawning and anxious smile.
"Xiao Zhou, Brother Zhou! It's all a misunderstanding!"
"I just... I clicked the wrong thing! Yes, that's it, I clicked the wrong thing!"
"My eyesight isn't great, and the system is lagging, you see..."
He began to ramble incoherently, searching for excuses.
"How could I possibly delete your data on purpose? I just wanted to help you check... help you organize it..."
I watched his clumsy performance and couldn't help but laugh.
"Alright, Brother Xi, stop acting."
"The last two times you deleted my data, I didn't catch you in the act."
"But the system logs don't lie."
"This time I'll let it slide, but don't let it happen again."
"If there’s a next time, I will send these records exactly as they are to the people who need to see them."
I said no more and turned back to my workstation.
Leaving Brother Xi standing there, his expression shifting unpredictably between green and white.
Heard that later he wanted to quickly delete his operational traces, but in his haste, he messed up his account permissions, and was publicly "guided" by the IT guy, which caused a round of suppressed laughter from the colleagues around.
During those days, Brother Xi was much more subdued, and he avoided my gaze.
Life was peaceful for only a few days before new troubles emerged.
My work phone suddenly turned into an advertisement hotline.
I received dozens of harassment calls each day, either selling insurance or promoting courses, or claiming "You have a loan from XX Bank waiting to be collected."
My email was also flooded with various spam messages.
The most ridiculous part was that I received several text messages for property viewing appointments from "clients."
The appointment times were either in the dead of night or completely clashed with my normal schedule.
The names of the clients were bizarre, with "Monkey King" and "Marilyn Monroe" among them.
When I called back, either the number was disconnected, or the person on the other end was confused and claimed there had never been any appointment.
It was clear that someone was deliberately messing with me.
