“Qin Si, come here for a moment,” Luna's crisp voice broke the silence in front of the stone tablet, her tone carrying a hint of barely concealed excitement, much like discovering the last piece of candy hidden at the bottom of a jar.
Qin Si quickly walked to Luna's side and slightly bent down. “Miss, what can I do for you?” she asked respectfully, her eyes filled with concern for Luna.
Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, casting a warm glow on her face, making her skin appear even more porcelain-like.
“How much do you know about the Ancient Prophecy Sign?” Luna pointed at the stone tablet, where the Iris seemed to breathe with life, her dark eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Following Luna's gaze to the stone tablet, Qin Si pondered for a moment before replying, “Miss, the legend of this Prophecy Sign has been around for a long time. It is said to foretell the glory and wealth of the Lu Family across three generations, as well as a great calamity that will come three generations later.” She paused, as if organizing her thoughts. “The inscription says, ‘Golden Dragon Perches on the Radiant Demon Fortress, Three Generations of Glory Shining Over the Nine Provinces, A Catastrophe Suddenly Strikes, The Fortress Topples; Only New Life Can Break the Game.’” Qin Si's voice was soft and slow, each word carrying an ancient charm, like reciting a mysterious poem.
Hearing Qin Si's account made Aelia's heart tremble.
Years ago, she seemed to recall someone mentioning this Prophecy Sign, but at that time she was lost in the sweetness of her newlywed life and paid it no mind.
Now that she thought about it, the changes surrounding the Glorious Demon Fortress over the years seemed intricately linked to the “Calamity” mentioned in the inscription.
Unconsciously, she tightened her grip on the Si Pa in hand, her knuckles turning white as a wave of coldness surged from her feet to her heart.
An inexplicable sense of oppression filled the air, making it hard for her to breathe.
Beside her, her elder brother’s previously calm expression began to ripple with concern.
He spoke slowly, his voice deep and hoarse. “‘Golden Dragon Perches on the Radiant Demon Fortress, Three Generations of Glory Shining Over the Nine Provinces’... isn’t this speaking of our Lu Family’s former glory?” He recalled how formidable the Glorious Demon Fortress had been during their grandfather’s time and how mages flocked to it. A bittersweet nostalgia surged within him.
Back then, the Magic Lanterns of Yao Mo Fortress shone brightly through the night, illuminating the sky like a dazzling Ming Zhu.
Now, however, Yao Mo Fortress was gradually declining; its Magic Lanterns had dimmed like an elderly person nearing death—fading and barely hanging on.
Everyone fell silent for a moment as tension thickened in the atmosphere.
Luna’s small hand clutched Aelia’s hem tightly, feeling her mother’s palm warmth. She could sense her mother’s unease and anxiety at that moment.
Second Brother suddenly covered his face in pain, his voice trembling as he said, “'A Catastrophe Suddenly Strikes, The Fortress Topples'... Could it be that my betrayal by a close friend and my fall into the Magic Dilemma were what this prophecy refers to as 'A Calamity'?” He recalled the moment of betrayal, the Magic Backlash that nearly cost him his life, and the lingering fear still haunted him.
The deep-rooted pain and despair remained unresolved within him.
Brother San also lowered his head, a look of despondency on his face. “I was once misled by my magical Talent Misguidance, neglecting my training. Perhaps the upheaval in our family is related to this…” He remembered his reckless youth, squandering precious time and talent, filled with regret.
If only he had awakened sooner and dedicated himself to his training, perhaps the family's Destiny would not have been so fraught with difficulties.
An invisible pressure enveloped everyone’s hearts, like the calm before a storm.
Luna looked up at the group and then at the stone tablet radiating a mysterious glow. She sensed that there was a greater secret hidden behind it…
“We…” Luna began to speak but was interrupted by the sound of urgent footsteps.
Lucius approached quickly, his expression serious. He glanced at everyone before focusing on Luna. “I… I think I know where to find more clues about this Prophecy Sign…” He paused for a moment, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes. “The Magic Library…”
Lucius’s words fell like a stone into a calm lake, creating ripples of excitement.
Everyone was taken aback for a moment before hope ignited in their eyes.
“The Magic Library? Yes, there might be records about the Prophecy Sign there!” Aelia was the first to respond, her tone filled with excitement.
She tightly grasped Luna’s hand as if holding onto a lifeline.
“We mustn’t delay; let’s go now!”
Eldest Brother leaned on his Magic Wand and nodded. His raspy voice carried a hint of anticipation. “The Library of Hidden Books is vast; perhaps we can find a way to unravel ‘A Calamity.’” Despite his physical disability, he still yearned to contribute to the family.
Second Brother wiped away tears from his eyes, determination shining in his gaze. “I’m going too! No matter what, I need to uncover what truly happened back then; I won’t let tragedy repeat itself!”
Brother San shook off his previous despondency and clenched his fists. “I will go as well! This time, I won’t allow myself to sink into despair; I will fight for the future of our family!”
Luna looked at the renewed light on everyone's faces, her heart filled with comfort.
She knew that as long as they worked together, they could overcome any difficulties.
"Alright, let's set off now!" Luna said in her youthful voice, yet her tone was incredibly firm.
The group marched towards the Magic Library with great enthusiasm.
The Library of Hidden Books was located in the heart of the Glorious Demon Fortress, an ancient and magnificent structure.
Its towering spires reached into the clouds, as if trying to touch the stars above.
The massive arched doors were adorned with various mysterious Magic Symbols, exuding an aura of ancient power.
As they entered the Library of Hidden Books, a rich scent of ink greeted them.
Tall bookshelves were neatly arranged, filled with a wide array of books, from ancient Magic Tomes to the latest magical research reports.
"Wow, so many books!" Luna exclaimed, her dark eyes brimming with curiosity.
Aelia smiled gently and patted Luna's little head. "All the books here are treasures of our Lu Family; you can take your time to read them."
Everyone began to search for records related to the Prophecy Sign.
The eldest brother leaned on his staff, moving slowly between the shelves, carefully flipping through each book.
The Second Brother quickly sifted through useful information, relying on his extensive knowledge of magic.
Brother San also changed from his previous nonchalance and diligently searched for clues.
Though Luna was young, she did not back down; she struggled to move the books with her small hands, determinedly seeking the information she wanted.
Time passed slowly, and everyone still had not found any valuable clues.
The Library of Hidden Books was enveloped in silence, with only the rustling of pages echoing through the air.
Just as the group began to feel a bit discouraged, an unexpected event occurred.
"Ah!" A startled cry shattered the tranquility of the Library of Hidden Books.
Everyone turned towards the sound and saw a small, gray-clad apprentice, resembling a novice monk, frantically trying to prop up a fallen bookshelf.
This apprentice was responsible for managing the Library of Hidden Books, quietly going about his duties most of the time.
He was petite, with a shaved head and a perpetually innocent smile on his face.
However, at that moment, he appeared quite flustered.
Inadvertently, he had knocked over a bookshelf, causing the books to cascade down like a waterfall, scattering across the floor.
"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!" The apprentice apologized as he hurriedly picked up the books from the ground.
Seeing this, the others quickly rushed over to help.
After some effort, they managed to right the fallen bookshelf and organize the scattered books.
"It's alright. Just be more careful next time," Aelia comforted him gently.
The apprentice looked at Aelia gratefully and quickly replied, "Thank you, ma'am. I will definitely be more careful in the future."
After this small commotion, the group's previously low spirits were lifted.
They regained their focus and continued searching for clues regarding the Prophecy Sign.
Through hard work and perseverance, Second Brother finally found some records about the Prophecy Sign in an ancient Magic Tome.
"Look! There’s a description of the Prophecy Sign!" Second Brother exclaimed, his voice trembling with excitement.
Upon hearing this, everyone quickly gathered around. The Grimoire read:
"Ancient Prophecy, a sign of the rise and fall of Yao Mo Fortress. Golden Dragon Perched, Three Generations of Glory; A Calamity strikes suddenly, the fortress collapses; only through rebirth can danger be turned into safety."
This description was consistent with what Qin Si had previously said about the Prophecy Sign, confirming its authenticity.
"It seems that this Prophecy Sign indeed foretells the future of our Lu Family," the eldest brother sighed, his tone heavy.
"Then how do we break the 'A Calamity' and find 'rebirth'?" Brother San asked with a furrowed brow.
Everyone fell into deep thought.
At that moment, a figure dressed in a gray Magic Robe, with a long white beard and an air of wisdom, slowly approached. He resembled a monk skilled in divination.
He walked up to the group, first bowing respectfully, then spoke in an aged voice, "Esteemed guests, I am a Magic Scholar from the Library of Hidden Books. May I inquire what brings you here?"
Aelia quickly explained the matter of the Prophecy Sign to the Magic Scholar and hoped he could help unravel its secrets.
After listening, the Magic Scholar stroked his beard thoughtfully and said, "This Prophecy Sign is ancient and contains powerful Magical Power. To uncover its secrets will not be easy."
"However, I might be able to give it a try," he paused before continuing, "But before that, I must ask—this young lady emits a special magical aura. Might I inquire about it…"
As he spoke, his gaze shifted to Luna, as if he had discovered something remarkable; his voice trembled slightly.
Everyone was taken aback by his words.
Only then did they notice that Luna indeed seemed to radiate a faint glow. Though weak, it exuded a sense of sanctity and solemnity.
“What… what is happening?” Aelia asked in surprise.
The Magic Scholar took a deep breath to calm his excited heart and then spoke with a more respectful tone, “The magical aura surrounding this young lady is unlike anything I have ever seen. It is both ancient and powerful, as if it contains endless wisdom and strength.”
“I dare to speculate that this young lady’s identity is likely extraordinary,” the Magic Scholar bowed again to Luna and asked, “May I inquire if your surname is Lu?”
Luna nodded and replied in a tender voice, “Yes, my name is Lu Luna.”
At this revelation, the crowd erupted in astonishment.
“What? She… she actually has the surname Lu?”
“How… how is that possible?”
Gasps filled the air as disbelief spread across their faces. They never expected that this seemingly ordinary infant would possess such a special identity.
“Could it be… could she be the ‘Newborn’ mentioned in the Prophecy Sign?” Second Brother said with a trembling voice, as if he had discovered a new continent.
“Perhaps… perhaps it really is so,” Brother San murmured.
While everyone was discussing this, Eldest Brother suddenly remembered something.
“I just recalled!” he exclaimed excitedly. “Years ago, I was struck by a Magic Backlash and severely injured, nearly losing my life. Later, by sheer luck, I received guidance from a mysterious master, which allowed me to lift the curse and restore my Magical Power. After that, I participated in the Magic Competition and managed to triumph through all rounds, winning three honors for our family.”
“Three Honors?!” the Magic Scholar exclaimed. “Could it be that the Lu Family has fulfilled the first two lines of the Prophecy Sign?”
Upon hearing this, everyone quickly turned their gaze to the ancient Grimoire. It read:
“Golden Dragon Perched, Three Generations of Glory… this refers to the former brilliance of our Lu Family.”
“Three Honors… This refers to my elder brother's achievement of winning three championships in the Magic Competition, bringing him great glory.”
“Could it be that this Prophecy Sign is actually true?!” Aelia covered her mouth, speaking in disbelief.
Everyone fell silent, and the atmosphere grew tense.
“It seems that this Prophecy Sign has already come to pass for the most part,” the Magic Scholar said slowly. “Next, we may have to face the part that says ‘A Calamity will strike suddenly, and the fortress will collapse.’”
“What should we do?” Aelia asked anxiously.
The Magic Scholar shook his head. “I don’t know either. This Prophecy Sign is too ancient, containing too many unknown factors. However, I believe that since it mentions ‘new life breaking the deadlock,’ it means that our Lu Family will surely be able to overcome this Calamity and turn danger into safety.”
Everyone’s gaze turned once again to Luna.
“Perhaps we can truly rely on Luna to change the Lu Family’s Destiny,” Aelia murmured.
Luna looked up at everyone and then at the ancient Grimoire; she seemed to understand something.
“Mother, I…” Luna began to speak but suddenly stopped.
She noticed Aelia’s face had turned pale.
“Aelia, what’s wrong?” her elder brother asked with concern.
Aelia took a deep breath, as if she had made a certain decision.
“Everyone…” Aelia’s voice trembled slightly but was filled with determination. “Actually, there is something I have been hiding from you all…”
Aelia paused for a moment.
“My husband, Leonard… he… he once…”
Aelia's words detonated like a deep-sea bomb, stirring up a storm in the silent Library of Hidden Books.
The air seemed to freeze, leaving only the sound of shocked gasps from the crowd.
Leonard, the Lord of the Glorious Demon Fortress, actually had a Concubine?!
This news was undoubtedly a thunderbolt for the Lu Family.
The eldest brother gripped his Magic Wand tightly, his knuckles turning white from the strain.
The Second Brother's face turned ashen, as if he had been slapped in the face.
Brother San's eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at Aelia, questioning whether he had misheard.
"What did you say?!" the eldest brother rasped, his voice filled with anger and incredulity.
He had always respected his Father, never imagining he would do something like this.
Aelia continued, "But now, the Prophecy Sign has come true: 'A Calamity has struck, and the fortress will fall.' I suspect this is the crisis facing the Lu Family!"
"Leonard's Concubine... who is she?" The Second Brother asked, his voice trembling as he struggled to accept this reality.
He had always believed his family was happy and complete; now it seemed it was all just an illusion.
Aelia shook her head, indicating that she didn't know either.
She explained that she had stumbled upon this information unintentionally and only knew that the woman had been someone Leonard had known in his early years and had maintained secret contact with him ever since.
Brother San angrily slammed his fist against a bookshelf, producing a loud bang.
The books on the shelf shook violently, nearly toppling over.
“Those bastards! How could he do something like this?!” Brother San exclaimed, his voice filled with anger and disappointment.
He had always regarded Leonard as a role model, only to discover that he was such a person.
The entire Library of Hidden Books fell into a deathly silence.
Everyone was processing the sudden news, their hearts heavy with shock, anger, and disappointment.
They could not accept this reality, nor could they imagine what kind of crisis the Lu Family would face.
Luna looked at the despondent faces around her, feeling a deep ache in her heart.
She knew that this incident was a tremendous blow to the Lu Family, but she couldn’t let everyone remain engulfed in sorrow.
She had to do something to change the Lu Family's destiny.
“Mother, brothers,” Luna’s clear voice broke the silence as she spoke with a youthful tone, “I know everyone is very sad right now, but we cannot give up. Although our family has faced many difficulties, we still have a chance to change our destiny!”
Her words lifted the heads of those around her as they looked at the young girl.
“I know about the Prophecy Sign and that the Lu Family will face a crisis,” Luna continued, her tone firm and confident. “But let’s not forget that the Prophecy Sign also says, ‘A new beginning will turn danger into safety.’ I may be young, but I will do everything I can to help the Lu Family through this tough time!”
Luna’s words ignited a spark of hope within them.
They gazed at this confident girl, as if seeing the future of the Lu Family.
“Luna, do you… do you have any plans?” Aelia asked with a trembling voice, placing all her hopes on Luna.
Luna nodded and replied, “I know some things about the future and some ways to change our destiny. While I cannot guarantee success, I will do my utmost to help the Lu Family overcome this crisis!”
Her words filled everyone with renewed hope.
They knew that Luna possessed special abilities and believed she could lead the Lu Family toward a brighter future.
"Alright! We believe in you!" the eldest brother said firmly, being the first to step forward in support of Luna.
"That's right, we believe in you!" Second Brother nodded in agreement.
"Luna, just tell us what we need to do," Brother San said, clenching his fists, ready to give his all.
Aelia watched as hope reignited among the crowd, her heart filled with gratitude.
She knew that as long as everyone worked together, they could overcome any obstacle.
"Luna, what do you plan to do?" Aelia asked softly, eager to know Luna's specific plans.
Luna took a deep breath, her dark eyes shining with determination.
"Right now, the most important thing is..." Luna paused, scanning the faces around her before finally resting her gaze on the Magic Scholar. "We need to find a way to break the binding of the Prophecy Sign!"
Upon hearing Luna's words, the Magic Scholar's once-dim eyes suddenly brightened. He trembled as he approached Luna, his expression filled with excitement. "Is this true, Miss? If we can truly break the binding of the Prophecy Sign, there may still be a glimmer of hope for the Lu Family!"
"Of course it's true," Luna affirmed with a nod, her tone resolute and confident. "If I say it, I will make it happen!"
The crowd felt a surge of anticipation. They knew that Luna could create miracles.
Aelia looked at Luna and tightly embraced her, whispering in her ear, "Luna, no matter what decision you make, I will support you."
Luna nodded and returned Aelia's embrace, feeling her mother's warm hug.
She understood that she bore a significant responsibility and had to do her utmost to change the Lu Family's destiny.
"Next, we need to..." Luna was about to continue when she suddenly paused.
“Mother, I’m a bit tired and would like to go back and rest for a while,” Luna said, rubbing her eyes with a youthful voice.
Aelia nodded quickly, concern etched on her face. “Alright, I’ll take you back right away. You’ve had a long day; you need to rest well.”
Aelia picked up Luna and prepared to leave the Library of Hidden Books.
The others also stood up, ready to head back together.
“Esteemed guests, please hold on,” the Magic Scholar suddenly spoke up.
Everyone paused and looked at the Magic Scholar in confusion.
“Esteemed guests, I have one more matter I wish to discuss with you,” the Magic Scholar said with a serious expression.
Aelia looked at the Magic Scholar, a sense of foreboding creeping into her heart.
“What is it?” Aelia asked softly.
The Magic Scholar took a deep breath and slowly said, “Regarding Leonard…”
