For Mo Wen, the most challenging issue now was determining the location of the cavities within the Mountain Body. The giant waves on the sea had subsided, and the dull ringing of the bell would no longer echo. If he wanted to "listen for clues," he would have to wait several hundred years, which was clearly impossible.
"It seems I can only resort to the most primitive method!" After contemplating several approaches, he sighed; the simplest method seemed the most reliable. Although it would take more time and effort, it was steady. Once he settled on a plan, he began preparing.
On the island, in a depression beneath the small Foot of the Mountain where he and Little Black Cave were located, this was currently the lowest point on the entire island. Mo Wen chose this spot to implement his plan. He drilled holes in the stones on the ground and inserted pre-made explosive barrels into them. Tying a rope to one of them, he ran behind a large rock and ignited it. "Boom! Boom!" Smoke billowed from the depression as debris flew everywhere.
"Haha! It worked!" While clearing away the shattered stones, he laughed heartily. The explosives were an idea he had come up with just days ago; wanting to make excavation easier required some initial effort. Normally, one would either use talismans or manually dig through rock. He and Xiao Hei had painstakingly carved out their Cave bit by bit. As for talismans, he couldn't craft them and lacked materials; thus, he dared not use them unless absolutely necessary. Most of the materials for making explosives were readily available in this underground world, and what he didn't have could be found in his Square Inch World. While they weren't endless, they were among the most common items.
"Boom! Boom!" Over these past few days, there had been muffled explosions echoing from the depression at regular intervals, gradually transforming into a vertical shaft. The stones cleared from the shaft were thrown into the Lava below. At this point, the shaft had already descended over ten fathoms beneath the Lava, yet there were still no unusual findings.
"Hmm?" After clearing away more stones, Mo Wen stood at the bottom of the shaft with a furrowed brow. He had been excavating here for half a month now; as he expected, digging became increasingly difficult as he went deeper. Fortunately, his explosives had improved in power through practice over this time, so his excavation speed had not slowed down. He should now be around eighty or ninety fathoms beneath sea level. Just moments ago, using Divine Perception to probe further revealed that his sensing depth had diminished; it seemed something was obstructing his exploration. "There's something down there!" This was Mo Wen's first reaction as his nerves began to tighten.
Though anxious, he also felt a sense of joy; his luck seemed good—he had found the right spot on his first try. Regardless of what lay beneath, at least he had chosen the correct excavation location. After carefully checking for any signs of danger and finding none, his heart eased slightly. However, he realized that further digging could not rely on his previous explosive methods; some adjustments needed to be made.
The ground emitted a sensation of metal clashing against stone as Mo Wen paused his actions. After inspecting his surroundings, he began to dig around instead of straight down. Since discovering something unusual, he switched to manual labor—much like when he was in Qilin Cave—hammering away at the rock. The efficiency was indeed frustratingly low; several times he contemplated using explosives again to clear everything in one go but managed to suppress that impulse each time.
