The next morning, I returned to "that home." When I left the restaurant the day before, I hesitated for a long time but ultimately put the ring back in my bag. Since I had decided to get a divorce, it was better to do so with a clear conscience. In my haste to leave, I had forgotten to take the keys with me. 0

Just as I was putting my things away and preparing to leave, there was a sudden, urgent knock at the door. When I opened it, I found Pei Nana standing there, looking fierce. 0

"Come in and talk," I said, stepping aside to let her in. She seemed somewhat surprised by my reaction but held her head high and plopped down on the sofa. 0

"Tell me, what will it take for you to agree to divorce Xiao Mo?" Pei Nana got straight to the point, her tone firm. 0

I looked at her and suddenly felt it was absurd, as if I were the one disrupting their relationship. I almost wanted to ask her if she could meet any conditions. But then I thought about her, a caged canary; what could she possibly promise? 0

"I've already signed the divorce agreement; it's him who refuses to sign," I said calmly while grabbing a bottle of juice from the fridge. 0

"Stop lying. If you really signed it, how could Xiao Mo possibly disagree?" 0

"Think before you lie," she scoffed, raising her voice slightly. 0

Ignoring her accusation, I countered, "Why did you leave Shen Mo back then?" 0

Pei Nana stiffened, her gaze becoming evasive. 0

"I told you, his mother didn't like me and forced me to break up!" She quickly regained her composure, but her tone lacked conviction. 0

"Your mother isn't that kind of person," I replied calmly. 0

Realizing that I wouldn't get the truth from her, I didn't want to engage in further argument. I took out another copy of the divorce agreement and signed my name in front of her. 0

"Take this back to Shen Mo," I said. 0

Pei Nana snatched the agreement from my hands and raised an eyebrow triumphantly. "I knew you were up to something! You think you can stir trouble between me and Xiao Mo?" 0

She left with her head held high. Watching her retreating figure, I let out a gentle sigh. From Pei Nana's reaction just now, it seemed there was more to the story behind her breakup with Shen Mo. However, that had nothing to do with me. All I wanted was to get a divorce from Shen Mo as soon as possible. 0

For a while, I was overwhelmed with work, buried under a mountain of tasks that had piled up. Meanwhile, there was still no word from Shen Mo. Pei Nana, on the other hand, remained active, sending me multimedia messages every few days, always featuring Shen Mo in the photos. Each time, I simply viewed them for amusement and then deleted them. 0

Naturally, she was anxious. It wasn't until half a month later that my 27th birthday arrived. I had planned to spend the day quietly at home. However, Lu Mingze suddenly appeared and insisted on celebrating my birthday with me. I wanted to refuse, but he claimed he wanted to show me the beauty of life. There was no way to turn down his many compelling reasons. 0

But who could resist "Life Is Beautiful"? We sat atop a mountain, overlooking the myriad lights of the city as a gentle breeze brushed against our faces. Lu Mingze tentatively asked, "Why do you like Shen Mo?" 0

I turned to glance at him before returning my gaze to the twinkling stars. "If you're feeling sad, you don't have to..." 0

"It's fine; it's all in the past," I replied calmly. 0

The first time I met Shen Mo was when I was six years old. He took my hand and said he wanted me to be his bride. It was just a child's game of make-believe, yet I took it seriously. 0

After starting school, he and I were always in the same class. Every time I had a disagreement with someone, he would be the first to stand up for me. 0

One day during our senior year, on the way home from school, I was harassed by a drunken man. He rushed in and started fighting with that man. Later, the drunkard spent a whole month in the hospital. After being discharged, he even came to apologize to me. 0

That fluttering seed of emotion gradually took root and grew into a towering tree. I thought he liked me. 0

After the college entrance examination, in order to be closer to him, I gave up my opportunity to study abroad and enrolled in a neighboring school that was no more than two kilometers away from him. Unfortunately, during my sophomore year, he met his ideal girl, Pei Nana. They quickly announced their relationship, and I was heartbroken. I turned and went to France. 0

Later, he and Pei Nana suddenly broke up, and his parents unexpectedly passed away. My heart ached for him as he lost his beloved and his parents overnight, forced to bear the heavy burden of responsibility while enduring pain everywhere. 0

But when Pei Nana returned, I still lost—completely defeated. Lu Mingze looked at me with deep concern and reached out his hand as if to comfort me. However, an arm suddenly intervened between us, pushing him aside forcefully. 0
