One night, I accidentally caught a glimpse of A Mei's phone. While she was taking a shower, her phone buzzed and the screen lit up. I casually glanced at it and saw a WeChat message that read, "I miss you, when can we meet?" The sender was Stranger Number. 0

After hesitating for a moment, I opened the message. The ensuing conversation sent me into a cold panic. 0

"Wait until he falls asleep, I'll find an excuse to go out," A Mei replied. 0

"I miss you so much; I can't stop thinking about what happened yesterday," Stranger Number responded. 0

My mind went blank, and a wave of anger surged within me. I couldn't believe that A Mei... 0

My fingers tightened around the phone, turning white with tension. 0

A Mei's sharp voice jolted me back to reality. "Who told you to touch my phone?" 0

She snatched the phone from my hands and scolded me loudly. 0

I forced myself to stay calm and let out a long breath. "Who is that person? Do you think this is fair to me?" 0

A Mei shrugged nonchalantly. "It's just a joke between friends." 0

"Don't overthink it; just go to sleep." 0

Seeing A Mei treat it so lightly ignited my fury. 0

We began to argue loudly. 0

Before long, our shouting drew in my father-in-law, Lin Kui. However, he didn't care about who was right or wrong. He strode in quickly and pulled out his belt, swinging it towards me. 0

I let out a scream as the sharp pain tore through my back, causing me to stumble and fall to the ground. The belt continued to strike down relentlessly. 0

I could only cover my head and roll on the ground, trying to avoid the lash of the belt. 0

"You filthy piece of trash, how dare you insult my daughter? You must be tired of living!" Lin Kui's face twisted in rage as he swung the belt relentlessly, shouting curses. 0

"Take a look at yourself; with your muddy legs, even being taken in as a son-in-law is a privilege!" 0

"I'll show you what happens when you cross me..." 0

It wasn't until Lin Kui grew tired that the beating finally ceased. I was left gasping for breath, barely conscious. 0

Lin Kui yanked my hair and repeatedly slapped my face. "Zhu Quan, remember this," he spat. "My daughter A Mei thinks highly of you, but you're nothing more than a man. Otherwise, you're just a dog." 0

"A dog should act like a dog." 0

Throughout this ordeal, my wife A Mei watched coldly, even taking some satisfaction in it. After all, her father was helping her "tame" her husband. 0

Before long, I was beaten to a pulp and lost consciousness, only to be taken to the hospital afterward. The doctor looked at me with pity and quietly asked, "Young man, do you want me to call the police?" 0

"You've been abused like this; you can report them." 0

But before I could make up my mind, my father-in-law's family forced me out of the hospital. Reluctantly, I was taken back home. This incident left me covered in whip marks. 0

Once home, my mother-in-law acted like the good person, constantly trying to console me. "Ah Quan, don't take it to heart. You say A Mei is looking for another man, but there needs to be evidence for that, right? You can't just rely on two text messages to say she wronged you." 0

"Don't blame your father-in-law for hitting you; after all, A Mei is his precious daughter. He had every right to be angry when you insulted her that night." 0

"Just focus on living well from now on and treat A Mei kindly." 0

At this moment, I have no choice but to swallow my pride and endure. In this foreign land, no one would pity a man who has married into a family. I can only reassure myself that I must have misunderstood the situation. After all, life must go on. 0
