The massive waves had begun to recede, and the townsfolk were preparing to enter the Lava Sea. Among them were various factions, including the Jin Family. After enduring the onslaught from Shu Cang, they had managed to secure territory in Wu Prefecture, but their treasury had been significantly depleted. This was a golden opportunity.
“Dong!” A deep bell tolled, startling Mo Wen from his reverie. He hurriedly rose and rushed to Little Black Cave, only to find Xiao Hei unchanged, still in the same sleeping position. It had been three years since they left Cloud Mist Swamp; although Mo Wen's progress had been slow, he had advanced from a mere speedster to a focused practitioner. In contrast, Xiao Hei seemed to have undergone no changes at all. He initially thought the sound might have come from Xiao Hei, but given the current scene, that was impossible. Shaking his head, he returned to his cave to continue his research.
“Could it be that I imagined it?” Back in his cave, Mo Wen found it hard to concentrate on his work. The sound kept replaying in his mind, growing increasingly eerie. At that moment, he felt more anxious than when he was alone on his adventures. When he was by himself, he had nothing to fear; if things went awry, he could simply pack up and leave. But now, with Xiao Hei in a state of cultivation—though he wasn't sure if it was a critical period—he knew he couldn't afford to be careless. While he wasn't a Divine Beast himself, he had researched various texts about Divine Beasts, Demon Beasts, and Bloodline transformations in Yinzhou City. He was shocked by what he discovered; thankfully, Xiao Hei was fine. Otherwise, he would have been in serious trouble.
“Forget it; since Xiao Hei is safe, I should focus on my research. Time is of the essence.” After that sound, no further disturbances occurred for a while, allowing Mo Wen to finally relax. To be cautious, before returning to his cave for further study, he set up two additional Magic Circles around Xiao Hei to block external noises and installed an additional sensing Magic Circle inside. This way, he could monitor Xiao Hei's situation as closely as possible. Originally intended for nighttime vigilance while camping outdoors, this application showcased Mo Wen's unique approach to using Magic Circles. Looking at the layers of Magic Circles surrounding Xiao Hei, Mo Wen nodded in satisfaction; this arrangement alleviated much of his worry. Anyone witnessing his setup would surely commend him for such brilliance—only a genius would think of this—but given his current level with Magic Circles, this was all he could manage.
Outside the island, the destruction caused by the retreating lava during low tide was not as fierce as during a storm but still created significant disturbances compared to the usually calm underground world. The lava pushed toward the depths of the Lava Sea in waves as it flowed back naturally rather than being driven by storm winds.
“Woo! Woo!” Outside the cave, the wind generated by the flowing lava howled like a wailing ghost and grew increasingly intense. Inside the cave, Mo Wen sat at a stone table made of rocks, burning incense and brewing tea in an attempt to calm himself. However, the more he tried to relax, the more agitated he became; that deep bell continued to resonate in his mind like an echoing drumbeat, making him feel as though he were holding his breath and unable to exhale.
“This is not a pleasant situation,” he sighed deeply and stood up to exit the cave. To facilitate monitoring the surroundings, Mo Wen had deliberately positioned his cave entrance at the mountain's peak. Standing atop the mountain and feeling the scorching wind—much stronger than before—he prepared himself for whatever lay ahead.
