Lou Yu laughed heartily, "I'm not bragging. Can you wake up? Even if Pei Guanjing is chasing you, I would be a more reliable choice!" After laughing, he sighed with a hint of regret, "What a pity, Ye Chen, it's a shame you're not a Kun Ze."
Ye Chen's eyes sparkled with mischief. "What if I were a Kun Ze?"
Without a moment's hesitation, Lou Yu replied, "Well, that's simple. I'd quickly take you home to be my wife!"
Ye Chen's eyes twinkled again. "What if I refuse to be your wife?"
Lou Yu grinned oddly, exuding a mix of irreverence and cheekiness. His smile made Ye Chen uneasy. "Then I'd just knock you out and carry you back."
Upon hearing this, Ye Chen exploded with anger, standing up abruptly and shouting, "Lou Yu, that's outright abduction!"
Lou Yu shrugged nonchalantly, crossing his arms over his chest. "Do you know how many Kun Ze in the capital are crying and begging me to abduct them? And I still refuse."
Ye Chen facepalmed, suddenly realizing how dangerous this Military Camp truly was. He had thought that leaning on Pei Guanjing and Lou Yu would ensure he had someone to rely on in case of emergencies, but it seemed he had found himself with two wolves instead.
Feeling powerless, he turned to leave.
Lou Yu called after him, "Where are you going?"
"I've been through too much lately. I need to talk to Brother Fu Gui about it."
Lou Yu responded with an "Mm." "Ye Chen, what on earth are you doing every day? Don't you know Fu Gui is no longer at the Canteen?"
Ye Chen immediately turned back and asked, "Where did he go?"
"A group of reckless Wolf Tribe members is planning to attack Cangzhou, so Fu Gui has been dispatched there to prepare for battle."
It was a farewell that spoke of uncertainty and danger, yet coming from the young Lou Yu's lips, it sounded surprisingly lighthearted.
Ye Chen weighed his options and decided to ask, “Lou Yu, going into battle is a matter of life and death, yet you speak of it as if it’s as simple as having a meal. How can that be?”
Lou Yu looked at him disdainfully. “We’re already at the Military Camp. Worrying about life and death now is just pointless fretting.”
Ye Chen was left speechless, his lips twitching in frustration.
Seeing him at a loss for words, Lou Yu chuckled with delight. “Cangzhou isn’t something that can be easily taken. If they’re looking for death, then I’ll gladly oblige. Besides, my uncle is stationed there; it’s impossible for them to break through.”
Ye Chen waved his hand. He had come to say goodbye to Chef Wang and Brother Fu Gui, but since they weren’t around, he decided not to linger any longer and turned to leave. Only Lou Yu called out from behind, “Hey, the water’s boiling! Aren’t you going to cook?”
Hmph, whoever wants to cook can do it; I’m a grown man and I won’t be doing it anymore!
But just as Ye Chen lifted his foot to leave, he was stopped by Lou Yu’s next words.
“One tael,” Lou Yu said.
Ye Chen’s steps slowly moved toward the door again.
“Two taels! No more than that,” Lou Yu raised the price.
“Deal!” Ye Chen replied, quickly retreating back to his original spot.
He tossed the diced vegetables and dough balls he had prepared earlier into the pot and lit the fire to start cooking. This was a dish he had recently recalled from when his mother used to make it for him in modern times; he wasn’t sure how it would turn out. However, judging by Lou Yu’s excited expression with tears welling in his eyes once it was done, it seemed to be quite successful.
After serving Lou Yu a bowl, he placed it in front of him. Lou Yu eagerly picked up his chopsticks and went for the dough ball soup. But being left-handed and struggling with the slippery dough balls made it difficult for him; no matter how hard he tried, they kept slipping away from the chopsticks and never made it to his mouth.
Watching him struggle like this made Ye Chen laugh uncontrollably, causing his stomach to ache.
Seeing this, Lou Yu pouted and put down his chopsticks, turning his head away.
He wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes and said intermittently, "General Xiao Lou, what are you throwing a tantrum for? I worked hard to make this, so hurry up and eat this bowl of lumpy soup."
Lou Yu still ignored him, turning his face away and acting stubbornly. "I'm not eating."
Ye Chen's forehead began to twitch as he raised his voice, "Hurry up and eat! I'm still waiting for you to finish so I can wash the pot."
Lou Yu continued to ignore him, putting on a defiant expression.
Ye Chen rubbed his forehead in exasperation and asked, "What if I stop laughing? What will it take for you to eat?"
Do I really have to beg you to eat?
Lou Yu stole a glance at him and then said seriously, "You feed me."
Ye Chen nearly jumped up, raising his hand as if to slap him but ultimately held back.
But Lou Yu suddenly clutched his right arm in pain and said, "My right arm is injured; I can't move it. Ye Chen, can't you just feed me?"
At this, Ye Chen finally noticed that there was blood seeping through the bandage on Lou Yu's right arm. It seemed like the wound was quite deep.
Helplessly, Ye Chen rubbed his forehead and said, "Call me 'Dad' and I'll feed you."
Lou Yu looked up at him with a pitiful expression. "Ye Chen, you're being really unreasonable. Just because my arm is hurt, you make me go through all this? Are we still brothers or not?!"
"Alright, alright! I'll feed you!" Ye Chen was truly exasperated with him. To avoid Lou Yu getting caught up in whether they were brothers or not again, he quickly grabbed a spoon from the cupboard, scooped up a mouthful of rice, and brought it to Lou Yu's mouth while saying angrily, "Open your mouth."
"Hey, why didn't you take out the spoon earlier?"
Ye Chen chuckled, "I just wanted you to practice eating with your left hand."
However, when the spoon was handed to Lou Yu, he seemed to be stubbornly refusing, blinking his eyes downwards as if to say, "You still have to feed me."
Ye Chen raised an eyebrow at him.
Without hesitation, Ye Chen shoved the spoon directly into Lou Yu's mouth and then pulled it out. Lou Yu burned his mouth on the dumpling but still managed to smile and say, "It’s delicious when fed by Ye Chen."
Ye Chen's brow twitched; there was something oddly nauseating about that statement! What exactly was Lou Yu trying to do?
He sat silently next to Lou Yu, one hand holding the bowl and the other with the spoon, watching Lou Yu's face light up with joy, feeling increasingly irritated inside.
The summer heat was intense. Ye Chen had just hurried over and then started boiling water to cook, his cheeks still flushed. Tiny beads of sweat glistened on his forehead, visible against his delicate skin, and a faint fragrance wafted from him. His large, watery eyes stared at Lou Yu, wide open like a cat that was angry yet adorably cute.
Lou Yu stared blankly at Ye Chen and suddenly blurted out, "Ye Chen, you're really good-looking. I want to marry you as my wife."
With a loud thud, Ye Chen was startled and accidentally bumped his elbow against the edge of the table.
And with a soft "swoosh"...
Ye Chen and Lou Yu turned their heads simultaneously to see Pei Guanjing had somehow arrived, holding a torn piece of curtain that stood out glaringly.
