Seeing Ye Chen leave the medical camp, shaking his head, Pei Guanjing was filled with an uneasy premonition. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, which led to frequent mistakes in his subordinates' actions. Eventually, perhaps due to exhaustion, he switched shifts with Doctor Liu and returned to rest. 0

On the way back, he remained restless, feeling that something was amiss. However, reflecting on his recent actions, he realized that He Mu Ming had not discovered any of his movements, so he decided not to dwell on it further. 0

Ye Chen had already returned to the tent to rest. He had indeed been overworked these past few days; it was impressive that he had held on until now. Remembering the letter he had given to his adoptive father, a wave of joy surged within Pei Guanjing. 0

When the time came for him to share this matter with Ye Chen, he wondered how Ye Chen would react. Surely he would be surprised! But would he agree? 0

He felt uncertain, yet this matter still required Ye Chen's consent. 0

Fortunately, he still had time. As long as he could win Ye Chen's heart during this period, their union would further solidify the alliance between his adoptive father and King Huai'an. They would have no reason to refuse this marriage. 0

Once the war was over, he would send Ye Chen back to Chongzhou and then await their grand wedding. 0

The title of Master was merely a formality; why should he care about such things? Ye Chen, he hoped you wouldn’t blame me. 0

With a hint of tender emotion in his heart, Pei Guanjing hurried back to the tent, his desire to see Ye Chen growing stronger. 0

However, when Pei Guanjing forcefully lifted the white curtain of the tent, what greeted him was a scene that ignited his fury and left him seething with rage. 0

Ye Chen's face was streaked with tears, flowing freely down his cheeks as he mumbled incoherently, his voice weak and trembling. Zhao Yongsheng was straddling Ye Chen, roughly pulling up the legs of his outer pants while violently tearing at his undergarments—a sight too horrifying to behold. 0

Pei Guanjing’s grip on the curtain tightened as veins bulged on his hands. His inner fury surged like a tidal wave; with a sudden forceful tug, he ripped down the curtain. Then, wielding the torn fabric like a whip, he swung it forward with fierce momentum towards Zhao Yongsheng, who was sitting atop Ye Chen. 0

Unprepared, Zhao Yongsheng was immediately knocked down by the powerful force emanating from Ye Chen. Not only that, but the strength of the curtain sweeping across him was so intense that he rolled several times on the ground before finally coming to a stop in the corner. The wound on his right arm, freshly inflicted by Ye Chen, was unfortunately struck hard against a nearby table, sending a piercing pain through him. He couldn't help but gasp sharply, his face contorting in agony. 0

As Zhao Yongsheng struggled to get back on his feet, Pei Guanjing had already taken long strides toward him, resembling an enraged lion closing in on its prey. He lifted his foot and delivered a brutal kick to Zhao Yongsheng's abdomen. This kick carried immense force, making Zhao Yongsheng feel as though his internal organs had shifted positions, nearly causing him to vomit up last night's meal. 0

Despite Zhao Yongsheng's extensive battlefield experience and his ability to endure pain, he found himself with no room for resistance against Pei Guanjing's furious assault. He could only clutch his stomach in pain and slowly crouch down. 0

At that moment, Pei Guanjing's usually cold eyes were ablaze with fury, like two flames ready to consume everything in their path. Still seething with anger, he kicked again, this time targeting Zhao Yongsheng's abdomen once more. 0

With this kick, Zhao Yongsheng felt as if a heavy hammer had struck his belly, causing darkness to cloud his vision. For a moment, he even thought he might be bleeding internally. 0

In a fit of rage, Pei Guanjing raised his foot again, aiming for Zhao Yongsheng's heart. Just then, he suddenly heard Ye Chen's weak voice calling out from behind him, tinged with tears: "Master, Master, is that you?" 0

It turned out that the effects of the anesthetic had fully taken hold; Ye Chen felt dizzy and disoriented, as if his eyelids were weighed down by a thousand pounds and he couldn't open them at all. Yet he sensed someone had entered the tent and could only silently hope that it was Pei Guanjing who had come to him in this moment of despair. 0

Hearing Ye Chen's tearful call made Pei Guanjing's heart tremble violently, as if struck by a heavy blow. The kick he had intended to deliver froze mid-air as he hurriedly turned around and stumbled half-kneeling beside Ye Chen. 0

Ye Chen was completely drained of strength and unable to open his eyes. He felt as though he might slip into unconsciousness at any moment and could only exert every ounce of effort to maintain the last shred of clarity in his mind, repeatedly crying out: "Master, is that you? Is that you?" 0

Pei Guanjing's voice trembled noticeably as he spoke; his lips quivered violently. After what felt like an eternity, he managed to choke out: "Ye Chen, it's me, it's Master." 0

No longer caring about anything else, he bent down and gently yet urgently cradled Ye Chen in his arms. He held tightly onto Ye Chen’s swollen cheeks and disheveled clothing, which made him appear utterly pitiful. 0

Ye Chen buried his head deeply into Pei Guanjing's neck, inhaling the familiar faint scent of medicine that lingered there. In his ears rang the voice he had heard countless times before—so warm and comforting. 0

He finally confirmed that the person who had arrived was indeed Pei Guanjing without a doubt. 0

The heart that had been hanging in fear and anxiety finally eased a little. He leaned close to Pei Guanjing's ear and whispered in a barely audible voice, "Thank goodness, Master, you finally came." 0

As soon as the words left his lips, Ye Chen's head tilted, unable to hold on any longer, and he fell into a deep sleep. 0

Bloodshot eyes filled with anguish suddenly surged in Pei Guanjing's gaze as he held Ye Chen even tighter, as if trying to merge him into his very being. 0

In a hoarse voice, Pei Guanjing whispered near Ye Chen's ear, "Ye Chen, I'm sorry... I failed to protect you. But I promise, nothing like this will ever happen again." 0

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of the gauze package on the ground. Pei Guanjing reached down to pick it up and brought it close to his nose. His expression instantly turned as cold as a frozen lake, capable of freezing anyone in place. 0

He slowly tucked the gauze package into his sleeve and then gently lifted the unconscious Ye Chen into his arms. Pei Guanjing quickly scanned the tent, but Zhao Yongsheng was nowhere to be found. 0

Zhao Yongsheng had already taken advantage of the recent chaos to slip away quietly. 0

Now the tent was empty, with only a pool of bright red blood on the ground, glaringly vivid in the dim light. 0

It was the blood that Zhao Yongsheng had coughed up after being kicked twice. 0

Looking at that pool of blood, Pei Guanjing's gaze grew even colder. He would definitely settle this score for Ye Chen. 0
