Seeing Jiang Chen's serious expression, everyone at the dining table was left speechless, unsure of what to say for a moment.
"Mr. Jiang, are the immortals you speak of those from myth and legend? They are said to exist alongside heaven and earth, yet no one on Earth has ever discovered such beings. If one cannot even live for a few hundred years, how can they be considered an immortal?" Li Yang asked.
"Old Li, your standards for immortals are quite high," Jiang Chen replied with a smile.
The notion that immortals must exist alongside heaven and earth made Jiang Chen feel somewhat embarrassed. Eternity was also what he sought, but achieving it was incredibly difficult. Some even claimed that true immortals did not exist in this universe; they would merge with the Dao upon reaching the pinnacle of their cultivation and then reincarnate as humans.
However, Jiang Chen believed that true eternity existed in this universe. He thought that merging with the Dao was part of a trial for immortality; those who could not pass it would dissolve into the Dao and reincarnate, while those who succeeded could live alongside heaven and earth and attain eternal enlightenment. This was something he felt there was no need to explain to Zeng Xianyi or Li Yang.
"So what kind of person does Mr. Jiang think can be called an immortal?" Li Yang asked curiously.
"There are various ranks among humans, and the same goes for immortals. Old Li, the kind of immortals you mentioned, who exist alongside heaven and earth, likely refers to figures like the Jade Emperor or Buddha. But what about lesser deities like Tu Di Gong, Mountain Gods, or River Gods? Can they not be considered immortals?" Jiang Chen used examples from Earth's mythology to illustrate his point.
"Uh, Mr. Jiang makes a valid point," Li Yang nodded thoughtfully. Upon reflection, he realized it made sense.
"In fact, those at the level of Martial Arts Divine Realm are seen as immortals by ordinary people. On Earth, Transcendent Realm is considered the pinnacle of martial arts. But do you know what lies beyond Transcendent Realm?" Jiang Chen said slowly.
"Above Transcendent Realm? It seems no one on Earth has ever reached that level," Li Yang replied.
"Surely someone has reached it. Take the sword path as an example; although everyone currently considers me the Hua Xia Sword Saint and believes I have reached the peak of swordsmanship, after witnessing the Sword Manual left by a Sword Immortal at the Qinling Sword Immortal Ruins, I realized that my skills pale in comparison to those of true Sword Immortals. Therefore, I agree with Mr. Jiang's assertion that true immortals exist in this world; the pinnacle of martial arts is stepping into the Immortal Path," Ye Xiaoying added. She believed Jiang Chen was indeed an immortal; otherwise, how could such a young person be so formidable?
Jiang Chen's strength seemed almost illogical; however, if one regarded him as an immortal, everything suddenly made sense.
"Step into the Immortal Path? Does that mean after martial arts comes cultivation?" Li Yang and the others stared at Jiang Chen in shock.
Many martial artists were aware of this notion, but for most people, even reaching Divine Realm in their lifetime seemed like a distant dream—let alone entering Transcendent Realm and achieving the pinnacle of martial arts. As for what lay beyond that pinnacle, few dared to even think about it.
"It can be said that Earth's martial arts heritage is merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to cultivation," Jiang Chen nodded.
"Then what about our Huaxia legends regarding immortals? Are texts like Shan Hai Jing, Feng Shen, and Liaozhai real?" Li Yang and the others were utterly astonished.
"Gods, demons, ghosts, and immortals surely exist in this universe; however, whether the stories in Feng Shen and Liaozhai are true remains uncertain," Jiang Chen smiled.
