I let out a loud scream, dropping the drawing board onto the floor and jumping up from the chair! My body trembled violently, and I could hardly believe my eyes! 0

The painting lay a meter away from me on the ground, the paper splattered with bloodstains here and there. But what truly filled me with bone-chilling fear was the content of the image! 0

The figure in the painting wore a white dress, standing alone in endless darkness, her eyes filled with terror and sorrow! 0

Gao Jun had stayed up for two consecutive nights painting, but the person depicted was not me. He had painted that girl! The girl hiding behind the window! The girl he claimed to have never seen! 0

“What’s wrong, Xiaoyun? Why are you screaming like that?” Gao Jun emerged from the bedroom, rubbing his eyes. When he saw the scene before him, he froze, his lazy expression vanishing without a trace. “Why did you knock over my easel? Were you spying on my painting?” 0

“Did you paint this?” I turned to him, staring intently as if all my questions were written on his slightly flustered face. 0

Gao Jun scratched his head and forced a smile. It was clear he was struggling to think of a response. But under my gaze, he quickly gave up resisting. After a sigh, he nodded gently and fell silent, bending down to pick up the scattered art supplies. 0

For a moment, the room was eerily quiet, the heavy silence freezing the entire living room. Looking at Gao Jun before me, I suddenly felt a strange sensation. The enthusiastic boy I once knew, the lover I had always trusted, seemed to have vanished. The secrets hidden deep within him finally revealed a hint of their presence through his furrowed brow. I could almost conclude that he was hiding too much about that girl from me, leaving me to worry and fear alone. I felt deceived and couldn't help but raise my voice in accusation: “Haven't you always said you never saw that girl? How do you explain this painting? Why are you lying to me?” 0

Gao Jun stood up and looked at me with a complex expression, as if he had many things to say but couldn't find the words. 0

“Just tell me what’s going on! Don’t you know how scared I am?” My voice trembled slightly with an edge of tears. 0

Gao Jun shook his head and spoke calmly, “There are some things I can’t tell you. It’s for your own good. If you knew what happened, you would only be more afraid. That kind of fear far exceeds what you can handle. Really, you have to trust me right now!” 0

A chill ran down my spine. In all the years I had been with Gao Jun, I had never seen such a heavy expression on his face. Where had that optimistic and open-minded Gao Jun gone? What terrifying truth lay hidden behind these bizarre events? 0

Gao Jun's demeanor sparked a surge of defiance within me, and I exclaimed, "No, I'm not afraid! Just tell me what happened, and we'll face it together. Even if we can't solve it, we can always call the police." 0

"Call the police?" Gao Jun let out a bitter laugh and shook his head firmly. "Absolutely not... You have no idea what this is really about." 0

"Why not?" As I glanced at the bloodstains in the painting, a new worry crept in. "Have you seen that girl? What happened to her? Why do her parents keep her locked up at home all the time? Did someone hurt her? You can't mean..." 0

Gao Jun simply shook his head again. "Stop jumping to conclusions. Some things are beyond your comprehension." 0

"What do you mean by 'beyond comprehension'? Don't brush me off with vague statements." I was genuinely getting anxious. 0

Seeing my relentless insistence, Gao Jun sighed and finally said, "It seems that just saying this isn't enough for you to believe me. Alright, let me ask you: over the past two days since moving in, that girl has appeared in your dreams every night, hasn't she? She haunts you, forcing you to relive those terrifying memories." 0
