Upon hearing Elder Zhu's words, Mo Wen began to understand the earlier questions.
Suppressing the urge to retort, Mo Wen clasped his fists and said, "Please go ahead, Senior."
"The Old Man needs a medicinal herb located within the Lava Sea. If it is convenient for you to help the Old Man find one on your way, he will certainly reward you. Moreover, the Old Man will arrange all necessary supplies for your journey into the sea. What do you think?" Elder Zhu took a sip of tea, setting down his cup as he looked at Mo Wen.
"What herb does the Senior require?" Mo Wen furrowed his brow. The offer sounded enticing; not only would there be a reward for obtaining the herb, but assistance would also be provided for his entry into the sea.
"Fire Lotus," Elder Zhu replied, watching Mo Wen intently.
"Hiss!" At the mention of Fire Lotus, Mo Wen couldn't help but gasp. The description of Fire Lotus in the Bai Cao Jing states: "An extremely cold item, born in an extremely hot place, resembling a lotus yet not a lotus, classified as a crystal material."
"Do you know what this Fire Lotus is?" Elder Zhu was surprised by Mo Wen's reaction. He had previously asked others about it, and they had readily agreed to his conditions without hesitation. It was rare to find someone like Mo Wen who showed such knowledge.
"Senior, please forgive my boldness. I have been fascinated by pharmacology and enjoy reading pharmacopoeias. I once read about this item in one such text. If I may be so bold, wouldn't it be easier for someone of your strength to obtain it directly rather than relying on another?" Although Mo Wen was unsure of Elder Zhu's realm of power, he could guess from his rosy complexion that he was no longer transcendent.
"Haha! You are indeed cautious, young friend. What you may not know is that the Lava Sea only allows transcendent cultivators and martial artists to enter. For someone like the Old Man, entering would either lead to death or injury; hence, this is why he seeks assistance." This was the first time Elder Zhu had encountered such a question. However, hearing Mo Wen ask it made him feel more at ease. "I see that you are not from around here; it's understandable that you are unaware of this. As for why there is such a rule regarding the Lava Sea, the Old Man cannot say for certain. But it is no mere rumor; it is indeed true. There have been those who disbelieved and ventured in—none have ever returned. The Old Man values his life too much to take that risk."
"I see. However, my journey will take quite some time; I wonder if Senior..."
"No worries; the Old Man can wait as long as you can bring back the Fire Lotus," Elder Zhu interjected. "Here is the map and information regarding the Lava Sea that you will need. I have marked all possible locations where Fire Lotus might appear." Seeing Mo Wen agree, Elder Zhu handed him a jade tablet. Mo Wen took it and began to examine it closely, but as time passed, his frown deepened.
"Senior, is there an issue with this map?" He returned the jade tablet to Elder Zhu.
"Oh? Why do you ask?" Elder Zhu was momentarily taken aback by Mo Wen's suspicion.
"From what I have heard and seen, the Lava Sea is merely a narrow canyon and not nearly this vast." It was better to be ignorant now than to enter the Lava Sea only to lose his life later.
