This is the Nameless Town, located at the border between Shu Cang and Lian Yun. Before the war, the interactions between Lian Yun and Shu Cang were normal, so there were relatively few people in Nameless Town. Those who gathered here year-round were mostly wanted individuals by both Empires, and since this place did not belong to either Lian Yun or Shu Cang, it naturally lacked the rules of an Official Government.
Upon entering a small tavern, Mo Wen found it packed with patrons. He ordered a jar of wine and a plate of meat, sitting down to eat while listening to the discussions around him.
"Have you heard about that...?" Most conversations revolved around events happening in the town—who had obtained what from the Lava Sea, or who had dueled whom.
"I heard that Huo Lou is going to hold another auction. I wonder what rare items will be featured this time," one of four people at the table next to Mo Wen—a group of three men and one woman—shifted the topic to the largest trading house in town, Huo Lou.
"What do those rare items have to do with us? The trades at Huo Lou are not easy to make," replied one of the young scholars among them.
"Alas, you are mistaken, my friend. Long Experience is also quite good," another chimed in. They continued their lively discussion, but Mo Wen was not interested in the auction; his focus was on entering the Lava Sea.
After finishing his meal, Mo Wen tossed some coins onto the table and left the tavern. He had not obtained any useful information. Just as he reached the door, a tavern attendant followed him out.
"Sir, please wait!"
"Oh? Did I not pay enough for my meal?" Mo Wen feigned annoyance at being stopped by the attendant.
"You misunderstand, sir. I merely wanted to inform you that if you wish to gather information, you need to go to Huo Lou," the attendant said casually.
"Oh? How did you know I was looking for information?" Mo Wen was surprised; he had not spoken a word about it, and there were many others like him in the tavern.
"Please do not take offense. You are clearly new here; it’s obvious you have an agenda for coming into this town. It is my duty to inform you of this news. That is all I have to say; please take care," the attendant said with a bow before turning back into the tavern. Mo Wen was left standing in the night, feeling disoriented. "Is this still considered a black market?" Such service was unheard of even in places known for their hospitality.
Shaking his head, he walked onto the street. If one only looked at the street scene, it seemed no different from anywhere else; however, what set it apart was that conflicts could be resolved with violence at any moment, and those who lost would end up dead on the streets. As he walked, Mo Wen noticed several corpses emitting a strong blood stench lying on the ground. Passersby merely took detours around them without any further action. It was said that there were designated people who collected bodies from the streets; anyone else attempting to do so would invite unnecessary trouble upon themselves.
"Brother, please wait!" Mo Wen called out to stop the attendant who was about to leave.
"What else can I assist you with, sir?"
"I am new here and find this place quite different from others; I am curious and would appreciate your guidance," he said while tossing some small coins forward. The attendant caught them and tucked them away.
"Hehe, you are quite straightforward! Most people are reluctant to reveal their status as newcomers," he remarked.
"Oh? What’s wrong with that? I am indeed new here," Mo Wen replied, puzzled. His identity as a newcomer had already been recognized by the tavern staff earlier; there was nothing left to hide now.
