Lu Jing Shen actually came home? How surprising. Ever since the wedding preparations began, he had been making excuses about being busy and hadn’t returned to this house even once.
I floated behind him, watching as he walked straight to the study. Was that my desk? He opened the drawer and started rummaging through it.
A diary? He actually found my diary?
I drifted closer to take a look. The yellowed diary lay quietly in his hands.
How ironic; when I wrote those heartfelt words, I thought he would be the one to listen.
He opened the diary.
“Jing Shen, today you wore that blue shirt, it looked great. I secretly watched you for a long time, my heart racing like a startled deer. But what were you and Su Wan talking about? You both looked so happy, and I… felt a bit sad.”
As I read those words, I felt a familiar ache in my chest.
He continued reading.
“Su Wan came to find me again, still over trivial matters. She knows I don’t like her touching my things, yet she always does it anyway. Mom and Dad always favor her, as if I’m the outsider. Jing Shen, I’m so tired, really tired. Why doesn’t anyone believe me? Why can’t you all see her true colors?”
“Today, Jing Shen, you yelled at me again for Su Wan. You didn’t listen to a word of my explanation. Am I really that unworthy in your eyes? Is everything Su Wan says right? Jing Shen, I’m so disappointed, so desperate. I love you more than I love my own life. But why don’t you believe me?”
Lu Jing Shen’s fingers lingered on a certain page; it was from the latter part of the diary, where the handwriting had become somewhat messy, with some places blurred by tears.
"Doctor said I have a terminal illness, late stage. Ha, how ridiculous, I'm actually going to die.
Well, it's fine. Death will bring me relief. No more loving you, no more watching you two be affectionate, no more being bullied by Su Wan. Jing Shen, I'm sorry, but I have to go first."
"I sent you my last message, telling you I was sick, telling you I was running out of time. Did you see it? Did you reply? Ha, of course not. You're probably with Su Wan again, right? It's okay; I've gotten used to it."
Just then, his phone rang; it was a call from his assistant. "Manager Lu, the ashes we received have been confirmed as human ashes, and the DNA matches Ms. Su Qingqian. The medical records and death certificate confirm that Ms. Su Qingqian really did pass away due to terminal illness."
Lu Jing Shen held the phone tightly, his hands began to tremble, and his voice turned hoarse. "What did you say? Terminal illness? Really... really dead?"
He suddenly threw the phone away and collapsed to the ground. Tears and snot smeared his face.
What a mess, Lu Jing Shen, is this what you've come to?
"Why? Why did this happen? Why didn't you tell me? Why... why..." He questioned repeatedly, as if asking me and also questioning himself.
It's too late, Lu Jing Shen; everything is too late. What good does it do to regret now?
Almost at the same time, my "family" received the news.
Father Su and Mother Su rushed over, their faces pale and lips trembling. "Qing Qian... Qing Qian... she... really... is gone?"
Are they regretting now? Regretting their indifference towards me? Regretting their favoritism towards Su Wan?
Hehe, how laughable. If I had known it would come to this, why did I act that way in the first place?
