The staff at the crematorium were well-trained. Seeing the commotion, they didn’t ask questions but silently pushed my "body" back onto the gurney and wheeled it out.
Father Su, Mother Su, Lu Jing Shen, and the smug Su Wan closely followed behind, as if escorting a prisoner.
Although the doctors and nurses had been forced out, they didn’t give up. They chased after us, trying to stop this absurd farce.
“Family members, you really can’t do this! It’s illegal! And it’s disrespectful to the deceased!” The doctor pleaded earnestly.
Mother Su ignored him completely, marching forward without looking back, muttering curses under her breath. “Respect? That dead girl Su Qingqian deserves it? She never respected us when she was alive; now she wants us to respect her in death? Dream on!”
Lu Jing Shen paid no attention to the doctor at all. Su Wan, however, turned back with a “kind” smile and said to the doctor, “Doctor, don’t waste your breath. My sister is cunning; she could do anything. Maybe she’s really just pretending to be dead to escape.”
Escape? Where would I run to? To a place where you can’t see me, quietly being a ghost?
As the hearse made its way to the crematorium, the cabin was filled with curses. Father Su and Mother Su took turns berating me, hurling all sorts of insults as if I were their enemy. Lu Jing Shen remained silent but wore a terrifyingly dark expression, radiating an icy aura. Su Wan occasionally added fuel to the fire with ambiguous remarks, making Father Su and Mother Su even more convinced that I was faking my death.
The doctor sat in the passenger seat, still trying to explain. “Everyone, in medicine, there’s no such thing as feigned death; only deep comas or other special conditions exist, but those are fundamentally different from actual death. Miss Su is truly…”
“Shut up!” Father Su shouted angrily, cutting off the doctor. “If you dare speak up for that dead girl again, believe me, I’ll send you to the crematorium too!”
The doctor fell silent in fear. He glanced at Father Su, Mother Su, and Lu Jing Shen through the rearview mirror before looking at the smug Su Wan, his eyes filled with shock and despair.
He probably realized that this family was not trying to verify whether I was truly dead; they just wanted to vent their anger and even… genuinely wanted to burn me to ashes.
The doctor sighed and said in a low voice, “Miss Su, with parents and a husband like yours, perhaps death is truly a form of liberation for her. I hope in her next life she can be born into a good family and find happiness.”
Next life? Ha! If there is a next life, I will definitely stay as far away from them as possible.
Upon hearing the doctor’s words, Su Wan immediately seized the opportunity to sow discord. “Mom and Dad, listen! The doctor said it himself—my sister’s death is a liberation. Doesn’t that mean they’re in cahoots? My sister must have planned this all along, using fake death to take revenge on us, and even got the doctor to play along!”
“I knew it! It has to be like that!” Mother Su was even more enraged by Su Wan’s words. “Alright! Su Qingqian! You little brat! Even in death, you want to scheme against us! Today, I will burn you to ashes and see how you can pretend to be dead!”
“Cremate her immediately! Right now!” Father Su shouted in agreement.
Lu Jing Shen cast a cold glance at the doctor and then told the crematorium staff, “Hurry up! I’ll pay ten times the price for her immediate cremation!”
The crematorium staff accelerated, the hearse speeding down the road toward the crematorium.
Upon arrival at the crematorium, the group got out of the car and was led directly to the incinerator.
Father Su, Mother Su, and Lu Jing Shen stood before the incinerator, glaring at the doctor with fierce expressions. Father Su pointed at the doctor’s nose and shouted, “Doctor! I’ll ask you one last time! Do you and that dead girl Su Qingqian acknowledge your mistakes? Are you colluding to deceive us?”
Acknowledge what mistake? I’m about to be burned to ashes; do I still need to admit guilt? This is so unjust!
I desperately tried to make a sound, hoping to stop this insane farce, but I couldn’t do anything.
