As winter gave way to spring, the potted plants in the apartment sprouted new buds, and the wind chimes on the balcony chimed softly in the breeze. Nezha's football career was gradually getting on track, having showcased his talent in several warm-up matches; Ao Bing was making good progress in his graduate studies, and the construction of the Underwater Concert Hall was in full swing.
However, life was not always smooth sailing. As their respective careers developed, their schedules became increasingly tight, leaving them with fewer opportunities to meet. Nezha's training intensity continued to rise, often requiring him to go away for training camps; Ao Bing needed to frequently shuttle between the Dragon Palace and the music academy, sometimes not returning home for several days.
One late night, after a week of intensive training away from home, Nezha returned exhausted. He pushed open the door to find the apartment shrouded in darkness; Ao Bing was clearly not home again. On the dining table lay a beautifully packaged box of sushi and a note: "You've worked hard in training; remember to eat on time. There’s fruit and drinks in the fridge, and soup in the microwave. See you tomorrow. — Ao Bing."
Nezha sighed as he opened the sushi box and began to eat mechanically. Despite Ao Bing's thoughtful preparation of food, dining alone made him feel somewhat lonely.
Just as he was tidying up the takeout container to take a shower, the doorbell rang suddenly. He opened the door to find Ao Bing standing outside, his face showing both fatigue and surprise.
"Ao Bing? Aren't you at the Dragon Palace?" Nezha asked in astonishment.
Ao Bing smiled slightly. "The meeting ended early; I wanted to surprise you. I didn't expect you to just get back too."
Nezha pulled Ao Bing into his arms tightly. "I really missed you."
Ao Bing hugged Nezha back and softly said, "I missed you too. We've both been so busy lately."
They exchanged smiles, seeing longing and understanding reflected in each other's eyes. No words were needed; this simple reunion was enough to heal all their fatigue and loneliness.
"Are you hungry?" Nezha asked. "I just ate the sushi you prepared; there are still a few pieces left for us to share."
Ao Bing nodded. "Sure, I'm hungry too. By the way, I brought some fruit wine from the Dragon Palace that goes perfectly with sushi."
So they shared simple food and updates about their lives in the kitchen late at night. Despite their exhaustion, the joy of being together eased all discomfort.
"I have three days off next week," Nezha said excitedly. "We could take a little vacation by the sea; what do you think?"
After a moment of thought, Ao Bing nodded. "That works for me too. The main structure of the Underwater Concert Hall is completed now; we can leave the next steps to the Dragon Clan Craftsmen. We really need some time to relax."
The planned seaside getaway soon arrived. The two drove to a secluded beach, far from the city's hustle and bustle. The azure sea sparkled under the sunlight, and there were hardly any other tourists on the soft sandy beach—only a few seabirds perched on distant rocks.
"It's beautiful," Ao Bing breathed in deeply, savoring the salty air. "It reminds me of my childhood days at the Dragon Palace."
Nezha chuckled, "But there aren't any beaches or sunshine at the Dragon Palace, right?"
Ao Bing shook his head. "True enough. But that sense of tranquility and being one with nature feels quite similar."
They spread out a blanket on the beach, enjoying their rare leisure time. Nezha brought a football and practiced various tricks on the sand while Ao Bing quietly sketched seascapes and busy Nezha.
