Ao Bing took a deep breath and nodded. "Thank you for your understanding. I will take care of things as quickly as possible and return. I wish you all the best tomorrow; I believe you will succeed."
Nezha flashed a confident smile. "Of course, I'll surprise you!"
Yet deep down, Nezha felt a twinge of disappointment. Tomorrow could be a pivotal moment in his football career, and he had hoped Ao Bing would be there to witness it. But reason told him that Ao Bing's responsibilities were far greater, and the relationship between the Dragon Tribe and humanity was much more important than a selection match.
Ao Bing hurriedly packed some essentials, preparing to return to the Dragon Palace overnight. Before leaving, he gave Nezha a tight hug. "Remember, no matter the outcome, I am proud of you."
Nezha hugged Ao Bing back. "I know. Go on now; don’t keep Uncle Ao waiting."
After watching Ao Bing leave, Nezha lay alone on his bed, staring at the ceiling in a daze. He should have been filled with anticipation and excitement for the selection match tomorrow, but instead, he felt a sense of loneliness and unease.
Early the next morning, Nezha arrived at the field full of energy. The selection team from Galaxy Club was already present, including the head coach, fitness coach, and several scouts. Many classmates had gathered on the sidelines to watch and cheer.
Before the selection began, Nezha couldn’t help but look around for Ao Bing’s figure, even though reason told him it was unlikely. A wave of disappointment washed over him again, but he quickly shook his head and focused on the upcoming match.
"Students, today we are fortunate to have the selection team from Galaxy Football Club visiting our school," the physical education teacher announced excitedly. "This is a rare opportunity; I hope everyone can showcase their best performance!"
The head coach of Galaxy Club, Xu Ming, stepped forward to say a few encouraging words before officially announcing the start of the selection process. The first part consisted of basic skill tests, including sprinting, passing, and shooting. Nezha excelled in these areas, catching the coaches' attention.
Next came the group matches; Nezha was placed on the Red Team against the Blue Team. Once the game started, Nezha quickly found his rhythm and orchestrated several beautiful attacks with his excellent skills and awareness.
In the thirtieth minute of play, Nezha received a pass from a teammate, executed a stunning turn to evade a defender, and then unleashed a powerful long-range shot that rocketed into the top right corner of the goal!
Cheers erupted from the sidelines as the coaches from the selection team whispered among themselves, clearly impressed by Nezha's performance. Nezha celebrated excitedly with his teammates but couldn’t help glancing toward the sidelines, hoping to see a familiar figure applauding him.
As the match continued, Nezha's form improved even further; he contributed an impressive assist that helped Red Team secure a 3-1 victory.
After the match ended, Coach Xu Ming personally approached Nezha to shake his hand, expressing his satisfaction with Nezha's performance and inviting him to come to the club headquarters next week for further testing and an interview.
"This is a rare opportunity," Coach Xu said sincerely. "You have potential to become a professional player. If next week's tests go well, we can offer you an official contract that allows you to join the team directly after completing your studies."
Nezha was so excited he could barely speak. "Thank you, Coach! I won’t let you down!"
This day was undoubtedly a tremendous success for Nezha. Not only did he stand out in the selection process, but he also gained direct access to the club—bringing him one step closer to his dream of becoming a professional player!
However, amidst his excitement, he still felt a pang of regret—Ao Bing hadn’t been there to see his performance.
Upon returning to his dormitory, Nezha’s first action was to text Ao Bing to share this good news. However, perhaps due to the unique environment of Dragon Palace, the message showed as undelivered. Feeling somewhat disheartened, Nezha could only patiently wait for Ao Bing's return.
