About an hour later, Ao Lie returned with several Dragon Elders and healers. They carried various peculiar artifacts and medicinal herbs, quickly setting up the ritual space beside the bed.
"Are you ready?" Ao Lie asked Nezha, "Let me remind you one last time, this ritual is extremely dangerous. Once it begins, it cannot be interrupted."
Nezha nodded firmly, "Let's begin."
The ritual soon commenced. Following the instructions, Nezha lay down on another bed next to Ao Bing. The Dragon Clan Healers began to chant ancient incantations, igniting specially prepared incense that formed a complex magical array around the two.
As the chanting deepened, Nezha felt a wave of dizziness wash over him, his consciousness gradually fading. In the last moment before losing awareness completely, he heard Ao Lie whispering in his ear, "Find Ao Bing and bring him back... but be careful; there may be other entities there..."
Then everything plunged into darkness.
When Nezha regained consciousness, he found himself standing on a desolate land. The sky was an unnatural shade of red, and the air was thick with the smell of sulfur. In the distance, a volcano erupted with molten lava, casting everything around in a crimson glow.
"This is... Flame Island?" Nezha looked around and recognized this as the place where Ao Bing had fought.
However, unlike the real Flame Island, this was clearly a projection on the soul level; everything appeared distorted and unreal. Strangely, the entire island was deserted, with only the sound of wind blowing.
"Ao Bing!" Nezha shouted, his voice echoing across the barren island. "Ao Bing, where are you?"
There was no response, but Nezha did not lose heart. He closed his eyes and focused his mind, sensing the faint vibrations of the Dragon Scale on his chest. A subtle force seemed to pull him toward the volcano.
"Hang in there, Ao Bing; I'm coming for you..." Nezha murmured as he resolutely walked toward the volcano.
The closer he got to the volcano, the harsher the environment became. Scorching heat waves hit him face-on, and the ground trembled intermittently as if it could crack open at any moment. Nezha discovered that his Demon Sphere Power had actually restored itself in this soul realm, allowing him to withstand the volcanic heat and continue onward.
Finally, he reached near the volcano's mouth where a massive Flame Altar stood—exactly like what Ao Bing had described about the Li Yang Sect's ritual site. In the center of the altar, Nezha saw a familiar figure bound by chains of fire, suspended in mid-air.
"Ao Bing!" Nezha exclaimed in delight as he rushed toward the altar.
But just as he was about to step onto the altar, a blinding wall of fire suddenly rose up to block his path. A cold and familiar female voice came from behind the fire wall:
"Child of the Demon Sphere, you have indeed come."
The fire wall slowly parted to reveal a figure in red—a woman named Lady Shiji! She looked even weaker than Nezha had imagined; her form was semi-transparent and clearly just a remnant of her soul. Yet even so, she exuded an oppressive aura that was suffocating.
" Lady Shiji!" Nezha stepped back warily. "You’re still alive?"
Lady Shiji let out a cold laugh: "My physical body has been destroyed, but my soul remains. Thanks to your lovely little Dragon People, his 'Dragon Soul Return to Origin' Secret Technique not only shattered our bodies into pieces but also trapped our souls in this realm."
She pointed at Ao Bing suspended in mid-air. "His soul is quite resilient; it refuses to leave and has been entangled with me all along. And now your arrival provides me with just the opportunity I need to escape from here."
