In the Crystal Palace, Ao Bing lay quietly on the large bed in the center, his face as pale as paper, his lips devoid of color. His chest rose and fell weakly, a sign that he was still alive, but his breath was faint to the extreme. The bedside was filled with various precious herbs and magical artifacts, clearly indicating that the Dragon Palace had done everything possible to save him.
“Ao Bing!” Nezha rushed to the bedside, grasping Ao Bing's cold hand, tears uncontrollably streaming down his face. “Why are you so foolish…”
Ao Bing showed no response, remaining lost in his unconscious state.
“He can’t hear you,” Ao Lie said calmly. “Ever since we returned from Flame Island, he has been like this. The physician said his soul has suffered great trauma, and part of it may still be trapped on the battlefield of Flame Island.”
Nezha looked up, his eyes filled with both sorrow and confusion. “Why? Why did you give him such a dangerous Secret Technique? You knew there would be consequences!”
Ao Lie let out a bitter smile. “I did know there would be consequences, but I didn’t expect them to be this severe. Moreover, at that time, there was no choice but this Secret Technique.” He paused for a moment. “However, now that you are here, there may still be a glimmer of hope.”
“What do you mean?”
Ao Lie walked over to a nearby bookshelf and took out an ancient book. “The Dragon Clan Classics record that there is a possible way to rescue a soul scattered due to the Dragon Soul Return to Origin Secret Technique—by finding someone with a strong connection to the soul and using that connection to reassemble it.”
“And I am that person with a strong connection to Ao Bing’s soul?” Nezha immediately understood Ao Lie’s meaning.
“Exactly,” Ao Lie nodded. “Your bond is extraordinary, far beyond ordinary emotional ties. This connection might transcend the boundaries of life and death, allowing you to call back Ao Bing’s soul.”
Nezha nodded without hesitation. “What should I do?”
“According to the records, a special ritual is needed to temporarily separate a part of your soul and send it to where Ao Bing’s soul is trapped to bring him back,” Ao Lie explained. “But the risk is immense; if it fails, both of you could perish.”
“The risk doesn’t matter,” Nezha said firmly. “As long as there’s hope to save Ao Bing, I’m willing to try.”
Ao Lie looked deeply at Nezha as if assessing his determination. “Alright, I will prepare the materials needed for the ritual. You stay here and talk more with Ao Bing; strengthen your connection—it will help with the ritual.”
After Ao Lie left, Nezha sat by Ao Bing’s bedside, gently holding his hand. In this quiet space, he finally found the opportunity to express his feelings completely.
“Ao Bing, do you know? The moment I received your message, I felt like my entire world had collapsed,” Nezha said softly. “I never imagined I would lose you, nor did I ever think about what life would be like without you.”
He paused for a moment, tenderly stroking Ao Bing’s hand with his thumb. “You’ve always been so rational and selfless, always putting the interests of the Dragon Tribe first. And I… I’m just a selfish guy who only thinks about being with you, disregarding any responsibilities of the Dragon Tribe or any fated opposition…”
Tears fell onto Ao Bing’s pale hand as Nezha choked back his emotions and continued, “But this time, Ao Bing, it’s my turn to protect you. I will bring you back at any cost. Then we will find a new balance together without sacrificing our feelings for each other in order to fulfill our responsibilities.”
Nezha leaned down and gently kissed Ao Bing’s forehead. “Wait for me; I will definitely bring you back whole.”
