As Nezha gazed at Ao Bing's face illuminated by the fireworks, the emotions in his heart could no longer be contained. He pulled Ao Bing away from the bustling crowd and under a large tree, taking a deep breath.
"Ao Bing, I... I like you. Not just as a friend, but..."
"I know," Ao Bing interrupted him, a hint of a smile on his lips. "I've always known."
Nezha was taken aback. "You... knew?"
Ao Bing nodded, his eyes filled with tenderness. "I guessed it ever since that night at the music festival when you left out of jealousy over Lin Yuqing. I just wasn't sure if you were aware of your own feelings."
Nezha's face flushed red, feeling flustered. "Then... what about you? How do you feel about me..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Ao Bing suddenly stepped forward and gently kissed Nezha on the lips.
The kiss was brief and pure, like a dragonfly touching the water, yet it made Nezha's heart nearly stop. When Ao Bing pulled away, Nezha remained frozen in place, unable to believe what had just happened.
"Is that answer clear enough?" Ao Bing asked with a smile, mischief sparkling in his eyes.
Nezha finally came back to his senses, joy flooding over him like a tidal wave. He scooped Ao Bing up and spun around in delight. "This is amazing! I knew it! I knew you liked me too!"
Ao Bing was startled by Nezha's exuberance and quickly struggled to break free. "Put me down, Li Nezha! There are so many people watching!"
Realizing his overexcitement, Nezha hastily set Ao Bing down but couldn't help grinning foolishly. "Sorry, I'm just so happy."
Ao Bing shook his head helplessly, yet his eyes were filled with warmth. "I knew you would react like this..."
Just as the two were basking in their sweet moment, an unusual light suddenly streaked across the night sky. Unlike ordinary fireworks, this light fell like a meteor, heading straight for them.
"Watch out!" Nezha instinctively shielded Ao Bing behind him, keeping a wary eye on the approaching light.
The light halted before them and transformed into a floating orb. Within it lay an ancient scroll that radiated mysterious energy waves.
"What is this... Trust Test?" Ao Bing asked in surprise.
The orb slowly unfurled, and the scroll floated in the air as golden letters appeared:
"Trust Test begins now. Only those who share a deep connection can pass."
Immediately after, the scroll transformed into two pieces of parchment that drifted toward Nezha and Ao Bing. Nezha took his parchment and found a question written on it:
"If your partner were in danger, what is the one thing you would want to say to them?"
Ao Bing's parchment likely contained the same question. He furrowed his brow in thought for a moment before pulling out a pen from his pocket and swiftly writing down his answer.
Nezha began to ponder deeply as well. If Ao Bing were in danger, what would he say? On ordinary days, he could think of a thousand sweet nothings, but when faced with life-and-death situations, what would be the most important thing to convey?
After a moment of hesitation, Nezha made up his mind and wrote down his answer.
Both of them finished at the same time, and the scroll floated up, intertwining in the air before merging into one. A brilliant golden light shone as the scroll reappeared, revealing their answers:
Nezha: "You go first; I will hold them off."
Ao Bing: "Don't worry about me; just take care of yourself."
In that instant, both were taken aback, then exchanged smiles. Although their expressions differed, the essence of their responses was the same—each urged the other to prioritize their own safety while they themselves would bear the risk.
The words on the scroll gradually faded, replaced by a new question:
"If the other were to be hurt because of you, how would you make amends?"
This time, Nezha did not hesitate and immediately wrote: "I won't let him get hurt; if it happens, I am willing to pay with my life."
Ao Bing glanced at Nezha with a faint smile and wrote: "I will stay by his side until he recovers and ensure that such harm does not happen again."
Once again, their answers appeared on the scroll, shining even more brilliantly. The scroll continued to roll, revealing the third question:
"What is one secret you fear the other knowing?"
