The last glimmer of hope gradually faded away. Nezha let out a bitter smile and turned to leave. Just then, a familiar melody floated into his ears—melodious and clear, enchanting to the heart. It was the "Rain's Mark" he had just played, but far more perfect than his version.
Nezha spun around, searching for the source of the sound. The music guided him through the bustling crowd until he reached the edge of the campus, where the music fountain square lay quiet and deserted. There stood a piano beside the fountain, bathed in moonlight, yet the music flowed from it inexplicably, as if it were possessed.
As he approached, he saw that the piano was empty, yet its keys moved up and down as if caressed by invisible fingers. "What... is going on?" Nezha whispered in surprise, cautiously stepping closer to the mysterious piano.
Just as he was only a few steps away, the music abruptly ceased. In the ensuing silence, a familiar voice rang in his ear: "Your piano skills are absolutely terrible, Li Nezha."
Nezha's body jolted in disbelief. "Ao Bing?"
A subtle ripple appeared in the air, and a hazy figure gradually materialized before the piano—short blue hair, a fair complexion, gentle yet profound eyes. Ao Bing wore a light blue traditional outfit, looking ethereal.
"It’s me," Ao Bing smiled softly. "I’m back, Nezha."
Nezha stood frozen in place, unable to believe his eyes. He murmured, "You really came back... I’m not dreaming, am I?"
Ao Bing didn’t answer but gently extended his hand. Nezha cautiously stepped forward and tentatively touched Ao Bing's fingertips—warm and real; it was no illusion.
Joy surged like a tide within him as Nezha pulled Ao Bing into an embrace with such force that it felt as if he wanted to meld him into his very being. "I knew you would come back! I just knew it!"
Ao Bing gently returned the embrace, his voice tinged with a hint of helplessness and affection. "Calm down; you’re going to suffocate me."
Only then did Nezha release him and scrutinize Ao Bing closely. "How did you come back? Is everything okay at Dragon Palace?"
Ao Bing chuckled lightly. "This time it’s not an avatar; it’s really me. My father allowed me to return for the New Year's Eve Party, but only for one night."
Nezha's excitement dimmed slightly. "Only one night..."
"One night is still good," Ao Bing said with a glimmer of determination in his eyes. "At least we can complete the Trust Test together."
"The Trust Test? Is that one of the three trials mentioned that night?" Nezha asked in surprise. "When does it start? How do we take it?"
Ao Bing shook his head. "I’m not sure about the specifics; I only know that it will begin at some point tonight. Taiyi Senior said that as long as we go with the flow and stay true to ourselves, we can pass the test."
Nezha opened his mouth to ask more questions, but Ao Bing's finger gently pressed against his lips. "Don’t think too much; it’s rare for us to be together tonight; we should cherish it."
Under the moonlight, Ao Bing’s face appeared especially soft, his eyes seemingly holding an entire starry sky. Nezha’s heart raced suddenly; there were words on the tip of his tongue that he wanted to say but swallowed back down.
Ao Bing seemed to sense Nezha's unease and gave him a meaningful glance. "Let’s go; if we don’t head to Campus Central Square soon, we’ll miss the countdown."
The two walked side by side toward the lively Campus Central Square, drawing numerous surprised gazes and whispers along the way—after all, Ao Bing had been missing for so long and suddenly appeared at the New Year's Eve Party alongside the campus's Problematic Youth, Nezha; how could they not attract attention?
