The next day, Nezha and Ao Bing went early to the Student Activity Center to sign up for the Winter Couple Challenge. The staff at the registration desk widened their eyes in surprise upon seeing Ao Bing. "Senior Ao Bing? Didn't you go home? When did you come back?"
Ao Bing smiled slightly. "I just returned briefly to handle some matters; I’ll be leaving again in a few days."
The staff looked at Nezha with envy, then back at Ao Bing. "I didn’t expect you two..." She didn’t finish her sentence, but a knowing smile appeared on her face. "What a perfect match! Truly a pair made in heaven!"
Nezha scratched his head awkwardly, while Ao Bing calmly took the registration form and filled in their information. The competition would start in two days and last for one day, featuring five challenge events that participating couples needed to complete in order to strive for the highest score.
"Five challenge events," Nezha said excitedly as he looked at the descriptions on the registration form. "They are the Mutual Understanding Quiz, Double Obstacle Race, Blind Trust, Creative Talent Showcase, and Heart Lock Challenge. Sounds like fun!"
Ao Bing carefully read through each event's explanation. "These games may seem ordinary, but they seem to carry special meanings. The Mutual Understanding Quiz tests how well we know each other; the Double Obstacle Race examines our cooperation and trust; Blind Trust requires complete reliance and guidance..."
"In short, they will test our rapport and trust," Nezha summarized. "This shouldn’t be too difficult for us since we’ve faced Shen Gongbao together and lived side by side for so long."
Ao Bing nodded but still bore a hint of concern on his brow. "I’m just in a split-body state; my strength and perception are somewhat diminished. I hope it won’t affect our performance."
"It’s okay," Nezha encouraged as he patted Ao Bing's shoulder. "We’ll face any difficulties together. The most important thing is that we can finally be together, even if it’s just for these three short days."
After completing their registration, the two decided to make the most of their precious time together by reviewing their studies in preparation for the final exams. Although Ao Bing had taken leave, he still cared about Nezha’s academic progress.
In a quiet corner of the library, Ao Bing patiently explained complex mathematical formulas and literary theories to Nezha. Nezha was particularly focused, diligently taking notes while occasionally glancing at Ao Bing to confirm that he wasn’t just a figment of his imagination.
"You’ve made great progress," Ao Bing said as he flipped through Nezha’s notebook with satisfaction. "It’s clear that you’ve been working hard during this time."
"I'm sorry," Nezha said, scratching his head. "I promised you and Father that I would take my studies seriously. Besides... this is also preparing for our future. No matter what happens, I want to be someone who can stand beside you."
A flicker of emotion passed through Ao Bing's eyes. "Nezha, you have always been the most important person to me, regardless of knowledge or status."
"I know," Nezha replied softly, "but I hope to be worthy of you, whether as a friend or... in a more special relationship."
The two locked eyes, and time seemed to stand still in that moment. Ao Bing slowly leaned forward and gently took Nezha's hand. "No matter what happens, our feelings won't change. This competition might really bring us the opportunity to change our fate."
Nezha nodded firmly. "We will definitely win!"
On the day of the competition, the Campus Central Square was bustling with excitement. Colorful flags fluttered in the wind, and various game booths and activity areas were neatly arranged. Couples who had signed up for the contest arrived one after another, their faces glowing with excitement and anticipation.
Nezha and Ao Bing arrived on time, both dressed in matching outfits—Nezha in a red outfit and Ao Bing in blue, perfectly embodying their elements: fire and water in perfect harmony. Many classmates were surprised to see Ao Bing back and greeted him enthusiastically, while others cast curious glances at their relationship.
"I'm a bit nervous," Nezha whispered to Ao Bing. "I feel like everyone is watching us."
Ao Bing smiled calmly. "Just focus on the competition; don't worry about what others think. Remember our goal—the 'Eternal Love' award."
