These words warmed Nezha's heart, but soon a wave of bitterness surged within him. Was Ao Bing saying goodbye? Was he gently severing their connection in this way?
"Ao Bing," Nezha's voice trembled, "I don’t want to lose you. No matter where you go or what you do, I want to be by your side."
Ao Bing's gaze grew complex, filled with both emotion and reluctance, along with a hint of determination. "Nezha, you have your own dreams and future. You want to become a Football Coach and bring the joy of sports to more people. This is your path, and you should walk it firmly."
"But my dream includes you!" Nezha exclaimed passionately. "A future without you means nothing to me!"
Ao Bing looked deeply into Nezha's eyes and then softly said, "Time will change everything, Nezha. Perhaps one day, you will meet someone more suitable for you, and together you will pursue your dreams and spend your lives together. As for me... I will be in the Dragon Palace, blessing you both."
"That won't happen," Nezha stubbornly shook his head. "I won’t change my heart, nor will I forget you. Ao Bing, don’t you understand? You are more than just a friend to me; you are... more than that..."
Nezha choked on his words, the term buried deep in his heart that he still lacked the courage to voice.
A flicker of emotion crossed Ao Bing's eyes but quickly returned to calm. "Nezha, I understand how you feel. But reality is cruel; some things cannot be resolved by mere feelings. We each have our responsibilities and missions that we cannot abandon for personal emotions."
Nezha felt a wave of despair wash over him. Ao Bing's attitude was so resolute, as if he had already prepared for eternal separation. Yet he still refused to accept this reality.
"At least," Nezha struggled to control his emotions, "for this week, can you stay with me? Let’s cherish this last time we have together."
Ao Bing nodded. "Of course, I won’t go anywhere this week; I’ll just be with you."
Hearing this promise, Nezha felt a slight sense of relief. Though a week was short, at least he had the chance to change Ao Bing's mind or perhaps find a way to maintain their relationship.
For the next two days, Nezha stayed almost inseparably close to Ao Bing. He took Ao Bing to every corner of the campus, as if he wanted to relive all the beautiful memories they had shared; he invited Ao Bing to watch the Magic City University Soccer Team's practice, showcasing his progress over the past few weeks; he even skipped some unimportant classes just to spend a little more time with Ao Bing.
Ao Bing was very cooperative, participating in all the activities Nezha arranged, listening attentively to Nezha's stories, and offering sincere feedback and suggestions. However, Nezha could sense that Ao Bing's heart was beginning to drift away. There was a calm acceptance of an unknown fate in his eyes that made Nezha feel uneasy and restless.
On the third evening, Nezha suggested going to the Piano Room, wanting to hear Ao Bing play the piano once more.
"Sure," Ao Bing replied gently. "Is there a particular piece you want to hear?"
Nezha thought for a moment. "Just play your best piece, 'Rain's Mark.'"
Ao Bing paused slightly before nodding. "Alright."
In the Piano Room, Ao Bing sat before the piano, his long fingers gently resting on the keys. After a moment of silence, a melodious tune began to flow through the air. It was a sound that was both tender and sorrowful, as if gentle raindrops were softly tapping on the water's surface, creating subtle ripples.
