Ao Bing smiled slightly, looking gratefully at Nezha. "Thank you, Nezha. I never thought I would reveal my identity to a human, but meeting you has made me feel no regret."
Nezha grinned widely, showing his signature tiger teeth. "Don't be so formal; we're friends! Besides, I'm not exactly an ordinary person myself, remember?"
The two exchanged smiles, and the tense atmosphere eased a bit. After turning off the lights, Nezha quickly fell asleep, but Ao Bing found it hard to drift off. He gazed out at the moonlight, his mind racing with thoughts.
Shen Gongbao's appearance was no coincidence; his quest for the Dragon Clan Secret was far from a whim. There must be a deeper purpose behind it all, one that likely conflicted with Ao Bing's own mission. As the heir of the Dragon Tribe, Ao Bing bore the responsibility of protecting the Dragon Clan Secret. Now, that secret faced an unprecedented threat.
What troubled Ao Bing even more was that Shen Gongbao seemed to know all about him and Nezha's identities. Why did he send Li Ming to infiltrate their dormitory? Was it just a coincidence, or did Shen Gongbao already know Ao Bing's true identity? If it were the latter, things would become even more complicated.
Ao Bing sighed softly, his gaze landing on the bedside table. The wooden box containing the Dragon Scale was hidden inside; it not only proved Ao Bing's identity but was also one of the keys to opening the Dragon Palace. No matter what, he could not let it fall into Shen Gongbao's hands.
Tomorrow, the investigation would begin. Ao Bing prayed in his heart that they could stop Shen Gongbao's plans in time and protect the secrets of the Dragon Tribe from being misused.
The next morning, Nezha and Ao Bing woke up early and briefly discussed their plans for the day. Ao Bing would go to the library to gather information while Nezha would monitor Shen Gongbao's movements. They agreed to meet at noon in the cafeteria to exchange intelligence.
"Remember, don't act rashly," Ao Bing cautioned. "Shen Gongbao likely possesses some special abilities; we don't yet know his true capabilities."
Nezha nodded, his expression unusually serious. "Don't worry; I'll be careful."
The two parted ways. Ao Bing headed straight for the library while Nezha made his way to the History Department building where Shen Gongbao's office was located.
In the library's Ancient Texts Area, Ao Bing reviewed a wealth of literature about the Dragon Tribe. Most of the public materials were myths and legends that strayed far from the truth, but there were also valuable clues within them. In particular, an ancient book titled "Dragon Clan Secret Transmission" contained descriptions of some powers related to the Dragon Tribe that aligned with what Ao Bing already knew.
As Ao Bing focused on reading, a familiar voice echoed from behind.
"Studying the Dragon Clan Legend? That's quite a rare interest."
Startled, Ao Bing turned around to see Shen Gongbao standing by the bookshelf, a meaningful smile on his face.
"Professor Shen," Ao Bing said, forcing himself to remain calm as he closed the book, "it's just research for a history project."
Shen Gongbao stepped closer, picking up the book Ao Bing had just set down and flipping through a few pages. "The Dragon Clan Secret Transmission... an interesting choice. Did you know that some legends suggest the Dragon Tribe is not entirely fictional, but rather real beings hidden in realms beyond human reach?"
Ao Bing's heart raced, but he maintained his composure on the surface. "Myths are always full of imagination."
"Imagination?" Shen Gongbao raised an eyebrow. "Or perhaps these so-called 'myths' actually contain hidden truths? What do you think, Ao Bing?"
