By coincidence, Liu Ying and Jiang Lu are from the same place, hailing from Liu Fei City. Liu Ying initially worked in his hometown but left Liu Fei City last year to move to Shenzhen, where he has now been for a year.
Gao Kang is an academic achiever who got into graduate school and is currently studying at Yue Province University of Science and Technology. He is an introverted person who seems uninterested in anything other than his studies, but he is quite nice.
Among the two, Liu Ying is still single, while Gao Kang has a girlfriend whom he started dating just a month ago. After some lively small talk, Wang Shun Yuan took out his phone to check the time and said, “Let’s go. Today, the four of us will get together and have some drinks.”
“Make sure to call your sister-in-law too,” Liu Ying joked.
“She’s already waiting at the restaurant, along with her college roommate and best friend. Liu Ying, Jiang Chen, you two are still single, right? You’d better make a good impression later,” Wang Shun Yuan said.
“I’ll have to work hard at it,” Liu Ying replied.
“I don’t need to!” Jiang Chen chimed in.
“Jiang Chen, do you have a girlfriend?” Wang Shun Yuan and Gao Kang turned to him and asked.
“Not at all,” Jiang Chen answered honestly, showing no signs of embarrassment.
“Well then, you can scout around later. My girlfriend’s friends are all quite nice,” Wang Shun Yuan suggested.
Jiang Chen smiled but didn’t say much more.
“By the way, boss, tell us how you met your sister-in-law,” Liu Ying said, changing the subject.
“Sure, I’ll share that,” Wang Shun Yuan replied with a smile as they walked along.
Wang Shun Yuan’s girlfriend is named Huang Lin; she is from Beijing but from the countryside near Fangshan. Don’t assume that all Beijingers are wealthy; those houses beyond the Fifth Ring Road in rural areas haven’t been demolished or compensated.
Huang Lin graduated from Beijing Language University and works as a Russian translator at a translation agency. Since graduating and moving to Beijing, Wang Shun Yuan joined a design company where he thrived; his department manager held him in high regard. At that time, his company took on a design project for a Russian client that required translation services, leading him to Huang Lin. Sometimes fate plays its hand; they got to know each other and eventually developed feelings for one another after going through some experiences together.
“I didn’t expect your sister-in-law to be from Beijing! That means her friends are all from there too. Scary! I’d better not think about it; Beijingers have high standards and probably wouldn’t look at someone like me from the countryside,” Liu Ying said, feeling self-deprecating.
“Liu Ying, when you really like someone, you’ll understand what it means to be fearless. I’m also from the countryside. To tell you the truth, Huang Lin’s parents didn’t agree with her marrying me at first; I was ready to give up. Can you guess how Huang Lin finally convinced her parents?” Wang Shun Yuan recounted.
“What did she do? Did she get pregnant?” Liu Ying asked.
“Liu Ying, how did you guess? That was indeed her method,” Wang Shun Yuan laughed.
“Wow! I’ve never even seen a swan before! They always portray it like that in dramas. But that sounds a bit forced; I bet there will be some trouble after marriage. Boss, you should be careful,” Liu Ying teased.
“It’s fine; I’ve thought about all this. Once I buy a house in the Third Ring Road of Beijing in the future, they won’t say anything anymore,” Wang Shun Yuan said confidently, full of youthful vigor about what lies ahead.
