"Ho Chen, come at me!" Huo Han dodged his brother's attack.
"How can you still call me Ho Chen?" Huo Chen's eyes were filled with hatred. "You left me all alone in Thailand back then. Did you want me to die there?"
Each strike was laced with murderous intent, and Huo Chen's fists were clearly more vicious than before.
I stared intently at the arena, suddenly sensing something was off. "His movements..."
"Noticed?" Xiao Yuanshan chuckled lightly. "Over the years, I've had someone train him specifically to deal with Huo Han. Sibling rivalry is the most painful, isn't it?"
On stage, Huo Chen suddenly pulled out a dagger, its cold gleam flashing.
With a 'thud', Huo Han's arm was slashed, a deep wound appearing.
"You have no idea what I've been through!" Huo Chen roared. "Sold to fight in underground matches by human traffickers, struggling on the brink of death every day. If it weren't for uncle Xiao saving me, I would have been dead long ago!"
Huo Han's eyes were filled with anguish. "I'm sorry... I thought that was the best way to protect you..."
"Protect?" Huo Chen sneered. "You just wanted to be the undercover hero, right? Sacrificing your own brother for a chance to rise to power—was it worth it?"
I looked at Xiao Yuanshan's smug expression and felt a chill in my heart. He wasn't genuinely trying to save Huo Chen; he was exploiting their brotherly bond to cultivate a tool for revenge.
"Ho Chen, you've been deceived." I suddenly spoke up. "Xiao Yuanshan isn't helping you at all; he's just using you!"
Huo Chen turned to me. "Shut up! What do you know?"
"I know plenty," I replied coldly. "Because my father was also schemed against step by step by him."
Xiao Yuanshan's expression changed. "Miss Lin, that's enough."
"What's wrong? Afraid I'll reveal the truth?" I locked eyes with Huo Chen. "Do you know why he insists you kill Huo Han? Because he already knows Huo Han is an undercover agent and is just waiting for you two to turn against each other!"
In the arena, Huo Chen's hand trembled slightly.
"You're talking nonsense!" Huo Chen tightened his grip on the dagger. " uncle Xiao has done so much for me!"
"Oh really?" I scoffed. "Then how do you explain that every time you were in danger in Thailand, it was his men who saved you? Do you think that's just a coincidence?"
Huo Chen was momentarily stunned.
"He has been monitoring you all along," I continued. "Just waiting for your hatred to deepen so he could use you against Huo Han."
"Shut up!" Xiao Yuanshan suddenly pulled out a gun.
But his reaction only confirmed my words.
Huo Chen glanced at Xiao Yuanshan, then at Huo Han, his expression beginning to waver.
"Huo Chen," Huo Han said softly, "do you remember our promise from childhood? That we would never harm each other."
"Then why…"
"Because I'm a coward." Huo Han laughed self-deprecatingly. "I thought that by sending you away, I could protect you, but instead, I ended up hurting you."
Huo Chen's hand trembled.
"Enough!" Xiao Yuanshan raised his gun. "Huo Chen, either kill him now, or you both die together!"
The room fell silent.
Huo Chen gripped the dagger and slowly turned around.
"I'm sorry, uncle Xiao," he said.
In the next moment, the dagger flew toward Xiao Yuanshan!
"Bang!" The gunshot rang out.
I saw Huo Han lunge toward his brother, blood splattering onto the Arena.
Xiao Yuanshan clutched his arm and fell to the ground, the dagger deeply embedded in his shoulder.
"Get him!" The bodyguards rushed forward.
But more people flooded into the arena—it was the police!
"Don't move!"
It turned out that Huo Han had everything planned out. Tonight's match was the perfect opportunity to catch them.
Watching Xiao Yuanshan being handcuffed, I finally let out a sigh of relief.
Turning to the side, Huo Han was holding his injured brother.
"I'm sorry, Ho Chen..."
"You idiot." Huo Chen smiled weakly, "How does it feel to take a bullet?"
"It doesn't hurt." Huo Han smiled back, "Compared to all the debts I owe you over the years, this little injury is nothing."
I stepped forward. "The doctor will be here soon."
Huo Chen looked at me. "Thank you."
"Thank me for what?"
"Thank you for helping me see the truth," he said, "and thank you for taking care of my brother."
A month later.
In the hospital room, the sunlight was just right.
"Are you done yet?" I watched Huo Han change his bandage. "Does it still hurt?"
"It's healed long ago." He took my hand, "But Ho Chen..."
From the next room, Huo Chen's voice could be heard. "I told you I'm fine! Stop making me take medicine!"
The nurse replied helplessly, "Mr. Huo, the doctor said..."
Huo Han and I exchanged smiles.
Over this month, Huo Chen's personality had changed a lot. Although he was still irritable, he was no longer filled with hostility.
"Xiao Yuanshan has been sentenced to death," Huo Han said. "His arms network has been dismantled too."
I nodded. "It's finally over."
"Mu Xue." He suddenly became serious. "I'm sorry for getting you involved in all this."
I pinched his cheek. "How many times do I have to tell you? No more apologies."
"Well..." he leaned in, "can I compensate you in another way?"
"Like what?"
He pulled out a velvet box from his pocket.
"Like..." he knelt on one knee, "will you marry me?"
I was taken aback.
"Hey!" The hospital door suddenly swung open. "Can you be more careful? This is a hospital!"
Huo Chen stood at the door with a crutch, looking disdainful.
"You are such a third wheel..." Huo Han sighed.
But I smiled, "Perfect timing, Huo Chen. What do you think? Should I marry your brother?"
"Tsk." Huo Chen rolled his eyes. "If you don't marry him, my brother will be useless for the rest of his life."
"Then..." I turned to Huo Han, "I guess I'll reluctantly agree to marry you."
He scooped me up and spun me around.
"Hey! I said this is a hospital!" Huo Chen exclaimed in exasperation.
Sunlight poured into the room, illuminating everyone's smiling faces.
The pain of the past was behind us; a new life was just beginning.
[The End]
