A Li's hands were pinned behind her back, held down by Liu Zi with one hand as she struggled fiercely against him. It was clear she was trying her best to break free, but Liu Zi's grip was like a vice on her right shoulder, leaving her little chance to rise.
At that moment, A Li suddenly tilted her head and bit down on Liu Zi's hand. He immediately cursed, "Damn woman!" and swung his hand back to slap her.
Liu Zi was a disciple of Third Granduncle Master and his most loyal lackey. Whatever command Third Granduncle Master gave, right or wrong, he executed it thoroughly. Even when his master didn’t seem to be present, he acted as if he were following orders, like a dog desperately trying to please its owner.
The sound of that slap felt as if it had struck my own face. My heart tightened painfully, and I leaped onto the boat, raising my staff to strike at Liu Zi's neck. Liu Zi seemed to anticipate my move; he swiftly dodged and jumped into the water, drawing a short knife about seven inches long, stabbing towards me with lightning speed.
I cursed under my breath and raised my staff in defense, rolling onto the water's surface. Liu Zi didn’t let go; he let out a loud shout and pressed the knife down towards me. I staggered back several steps until the water reached my thighs. Suddenly, I pivoted, stabilizing myself and channeling all my strength into my arms to hold the Three-edged Sword against Liu Zi's knife.
With a loud clash, our weapons met, sliding apart in different directions and sparking as they scraped against each other. At that moment, if either of us had slightly less strength, it would have meant the risk of losing an arm.
Both weapons were forged from high-quality black steel. In a direct confrontation, Liu Zi’s short knife had the advantage; its blade was about five centimeters wide and one centimeter thick at the spine, providing substantial force—perfect for chopping wood or cutting meat. My staff, while being the Three-edged Sword with 360-degree attack and defense capabilities, was narrow and lacked the same power.
After less than ten seconds of struggling against Liu Zi’s knife, I began to lose ground. The blade pressed closer to my chest, nearly bending my wrist backward! Liu Zi’s smug face loomed larger before me; beneath his lower lip was a bandage stained red, transforming his long face into something resembling an overturned wine barrel—strange and unsettling.
A Li shouted my name anxiously from the boat: " Brother Qian Yi!" But she was held back by several of Third Granduncle Master's subordinates and couldn’t break free.
I gritted my teeth and fought desperately to hold on. I knew Third Granduncle Master was using Liu Zi to force me into submission, compelling me to join his ranks. At this point, my personal agreement didn’t matter; they could easily bind me just like they had A Li. And Liu Zi was currently doing just that.
As this thought ignited a surge of anger within me, I let out a roar through clenched teeth and charged at Liu Zi with all my might. He likely hadn’t expected me to counterattack so fiercely; he made the mistake of underestimating me. I collided with him hard enough that he stumbled back several steps before cursing loudly and fell into the water with a splash.
I was completely blinded by rage at that moment. I grabbed Liuzi by the collar with one hand and raised my staff to jab at his throat. Just as the tip of the staff was about to touch his skin, suddenly, the surrounding lake water swirled into a massive vortex, pulling both Liuzi and me into its center. I immediately felt a powerful suction beneath me, as if countless hands were tugging at my body, dragging me down.
Liuzi was already sitting in the water, with only his head above the surface. As the vortex began to swirl, he instantly vanished from sight.
The people on the boat panicked and jumped in to pull us out, but as soon as they got near the vortex, they were sucked in as well, struggling for a moment before disappearing. Relying on my swimming skills, I desperately tried to swim upward, but it was futile. Before long, I too was pulled into the river's depths.
