As his understanding deepened, Mo Wen gradually lost his perception of the outside world, entering a state of profound contemplation. At that moment, he was unaware of the troubles this would bring him; he had yet to adapt to life without Old Lu as his Guardian. Time passed, though he could not tell how long it had been, when he felt something tugging at his clothes. Startled from his meditation, he instinctively grabbed the Butcher Knife beside him and raised it to strike downwards, only to see that it was Xiao Hei pulling at his garment. He let out a sigh of relief. 0

Recalling his earlier actions, a cold sweat broke out over him as he remembered that only Xiao Hei was with him and not Old Lu. Thank goodness it was Xiao Hei; had a Demon Beast or a Chimera taken advantage of his deep meditation to sneak up on him, he might have been in serious trouble. 0

“Xiao Hei, you scared me!” With the absence of immediate danger around him, he lowered the knife. Taking a deep breath, he realized he needed to quickly adapt to practicing under these conditions; there would be no one to guard him or clear away threats unless he became strong enough to exude the same aura as Old Lu, making both Chimera and Demon Beasts think twice before approaching. “I wonder if that old man managed to escape.” Thinking of Old Lu led Mo Wen to consider his junior sister; he was sure she was still hot on his trail. 0

“Xiao Hei, have you noticed anything?” Gathering his thoughts, he looked at Xiao Hei, who was still tugging at the corner of his clothes. Xiao Hei released his grip and glanced into the distance, making soft noises before turning back to pull on Mo Wen’s clothing again in that direction. Mo Wen understood; Xiao Hei had discovered something and was trying to alert him. Following where Xiao Hei was pulling him, despite the moonlight affecting visibility, he could still see quite far, especially towards areas illuminated by light. 0

His gaze landed on a mountain—the very one he had seen during the day and planned to head towards for the night. What caught Mo Wen’s attention now was the flickering light coming from halfway up the mountain. Upon closer inspection, it didn’t appear to be a typical firelight; fire flickers and dances, but this light seemed more like a steady glow emitted by some object, seemingly shining through a cave in the mountain. If one didn’t look closely, they might not even notice it. Could it be a Chimera? He felt a surge of tension; previously, when he and Old Lu had gone to pick Red Spirit Fruits, the Red Tree had emitted a similar red glow. 0

After observing carefully again, he noted that there were no signs of Demon Beasts around the light. If a Chimera were producing such a dazzling light, it would surely be for hunting purposes; however, Mo Wen saw nothing unusual within that beam of light. 0

“Xiao Hei, let’s explore this in the morning!” Whether it was indeed a Chimera would be revealed then—perhaps there was some treasure waiting for them. Old Lu had mentioned that the wilderness is a place where danger coexists with opportunity; there might be unexpected fortune there. With this thought in mind, a greedy smile crept onto Mo Wen's face. Yet despite his excitement for potential riches, he knew now was not the time for exploration; the forest was still bustling with activity. 0

Suppressing his eagerness, he patted Xiao Hei, who seemed to understand that now wasn’t an opportune moment for exploration and obediently lay down. 0

As dawn broke in the forest, the eerie cries of night-active Chimera and Demon Beasts gradually diminished, replaced by the calls of birds and roars of beasts echoing through the trees. The air was filled with the unique scent of the forest. Standing by a tree, Mo Wen watched as the fiery sun slowly rose from beyond the horizon while birds flew past between distant treetops and night retreated into the far distance. 0
