Holding the "Transcendence Nerve" and its supplementary materials, which he had exchanged for a meat sandwich from Old Lu, Mo Wen repeated to himself, "I must succeed; I want to become powerful." The supplementary material was a bottle of pills called the "Transcendence Pill." Mo Wen wondered if Old Lu had come up with that name himself; it was so casual that it fit Old Lu's personality. According to Old Lu, taking this bottle of pills would allow him to reach the Heavenly Unity Realm. Of course, how much he could comprehend the Law of Power would depend on his own fortune, as such things were intangible and could not be influenced by external factors.
In the following days, Mo Wen resumed his life as a "child laborer," hunting and cooking, while Old Lu urged him like a greedy boss to come up with new dishes. He paid no attention to Old Lu; his main focus had to be on deciphering the "Transcendence Nerve," while everything else was secondary. He had previously expressed doubts about the efficacy of the pills. With his understanding and Old Lu's description, if one could easily reach the Heavenly Unity Realm by taking a single pill, then everyone would be able to enter it—how could there still be people left outside its threshold? After voicing his concerns to Old Lu, he found himself hanging from a tree as a result.
Through continuous study, Mo Wen increasingly felt that the Kung Fu in Old Lu's hands was incredibly profound and far from ordinary. Looking back at the various Kung Fu techniques Old Lu had taught him, they were all remarkably intricate. The "Transcendence Nerve," being a Kung Fu that allowed martial artists to transcend into cultivators, was naturally more obscure than what he had learned before. Even with his not-so-brilliant intellect and a humble attitude toward learning from Old Lu, it took him three days to fully grasp the "Transcendence Nerve." After spending a day adjusting his state of mind, Mo Wen decided it was time to advance into the Heavenly Unity Realm.
Sitting cross-legged on his designated stump by the fire pit, he took out one of the Transcendence Pills. There were only three pills in total, and since Mo Wen had never dealt with pills before, he was unaware of their grade. After being scolded by Old Lu, he reluctantly accepted that these pills were indeed rare treasures; otherwise, they wouldn't have been worth him being hung from a tree. Examining the pill in his hand with great seriousness yielded no results.
Gathering his focus, he swallowed the pill and began to circulate the "Transcendence Nerve." As his Kung Fu flowed through him, the pill dissolved in his stomach. Mo Wen felt an even deeper connection with his surroundings than before; it was as if he were wrapped in something that brought him indescribable comfort. The last time he experienced something similar was during the Refining Qi Realm phase, but this sensation was worlds apart from that experience. He could feel the Law of Power swirling around him; leaves in the forest decayed over time; flames danced in the fire pit... He felt as though he could reach out and grasp those threads of Law, yet they always slipped away just out of reach.
As he sensed various strands of Law of Power around him, changes were occurring within his body; his Vitality was developing towards a certain balance while also increasing.
...
Watching Mo Wen, who seemed unlikely to wake up anytime soon, Old Lu felt helpless. It seemed he would have to take matters into his own hands until this kid regained consciousness. Yet at the same time, he felt relieved; this boy had high comprehension skills and had quickly entered a deep state of insight. It was clear he had already sensed the Law of Power—what good fortune! Entering such a state depended heavily on opportunity. The Transcendence Pill did indeed help increase one's chances of comprehending Law, but only by a limited ten percent.
The feeling of being enveloped gradually faded away as the strands of Law drifted away from him. He tried to grasp these departing threads of Law and hold onto them but failed. Slowly, that wonderful sensation dissipated along with the strands of Law, pulling him out of that extraordinary state. Sitting cross-legged again and reflecting on that feeling made him sigh helplessly. Wanting to check on his progress from this cultivation session, he circulated his energy once more and discovered that his power had indeed reached the early stage of Heavenly Unity Realm—this eased his regret over not catching those strands of Law.
After adjusting himself and opening his eyes, he saw Old Lu busy cooking and suddenly felt very hungry.
"Old Lu, how long have I been cultivating?" Seeing Old Lu engrossed in cooking made Mo Wen realize that if he hadn't been meditating for long, Old Lu wouldn't have taken it upon himself to cook. After all, at Old Lu's level, he probably didn't need food anymore; legends spoke of masters who meditated for decades or even centuries without eating. The only explanation for Old Lu cooking was that he was craving food and couldn't resist any longer.
"Just three days. You woke up right on time; hurry over here so I can see if there's something wrong with your Secret Recipe—the taste feels off," Old Lu said between bites. Whenever he thought something tasted wrong in his cooking, he'd blame it on Mo Wen's Secret Recipe—a habit Mo Wen had grown accustomed to. When Old Lu said it was for him to check out, it really meant for him to come over and help cook.
"Old Lu," Mo Wen said while they ate and drank together, "I entered a wonderful state during my meditation and sensed many strands of Law of Power around me. I tried to grasp them but couldn't—what's going on?" He described what he encountered during this experience and shared his confusion with Old Lu, hoping he'd provide some detailed answers in exchange for good food.
"To reach such a level on your first try is quite impressive; you should be satisfied," Old Lu replied while eating. "The Law of Power is based on comprehension; only when your understanding reaches a certain level can you absorb those Laws into your body for your own use. Just keep comprehending more in the future."
