The exterior of the Cairo International Hospital appears modern, but from my new perspective, I can see that the building's framework is quite old-fashioned. The steel reinforcements hidden within the walls are arranged in a peculiar pattern, forming some sort of massive rune structure.
First, let's take a look at the hospital's architectural blueprints. Jiang Zhendong opened his notebook, pulling up the original plans I had retrieved from the archives.
We sat together in a café across from the hospital, carefully examining the old blueprints. As expected, the overall layout was astonishingly similar to other hospitals near activation points.
"Wait," Zhou Jing suddenly said. "Have you noticed? The distribution of departments in these hospitals..."
She pulled out floor plans from several hospitals for comparison. Although the specific locations of departments varied, if we marked these differences...
"It's Morse code!" I realized, understanding that the shifts in department locations formed a sequence of codes.
We quickly deciphered it: a leftward shift for dots and a rightward shift for dashes. Soon, a string of numbers emerged:
"This is..." Jiang Zhendong said, "coordinates! But it's incomplete; it's missing minutes and seconds."
"Maybe it's not coordinates," I said, looking at those numbers. "Do you remember how military units use dates as project codes? It indicates experimental areas."
"Exactly!" Li Yang chimed in. "This points to the location of the acceleration chamber."
With this line of thought, we reexamined the hospital layout. If we treated it as a military experimental facility, then the most critical area should be on the third basement level. I pointed to the blueprint. "Look at this design for the fire escape; why does it take such a long detour?"
"It’s to avoid something," Zhou Jing said, tracing the path of the fire escape on the blueprint. If we connected these turns, it would form a strange shape.
"Like a keyhole," Miho said. "And this shape matches the bottom of the bronze mask."
I took out a fragment of the mask for comparison. Sure enough, the angles of those turns perfectly aligned with the grooves at the bottom of the mask.
"So the acceleration chamber must be in this area," I indicated at the center of the blueprint. "But how do we get in? The normal basement only goes down to two floors."
At that moment, I noticed a detail: besides standard numerical buttons, there was an ordinary-looking emergency button in the hospital's elevator.
"Wait," I closed my eyes and let the viral program within me analyze this button's location. Is it positioned similarly in other hospitals?
Everyone quickly verified, and it turned out that not only was this button's location identical across all hospitals, but even the tiny scratches on it were exactly alike.
"This isn't an ordinary button," I said. "It's some kind of object recognition device. It's waiting for a specific signal..."
"A signal from the viral program!" Li Yang concluded. "That's why they needed to activate the virus first. Only someone carrying that specific program can activate this device."
But the problem is, we don't know exactly what signal we need. Moreover, acting rashly might trigger an alarm.
Let me think for a moment. I flipped through the materials I brought, and they must have left some kind of activation method when constructing these hospitals.
Suddenly, I noticed a stamp in the corner of the blueprint. It wasn't an ordinary construction department stamp; it was a complex pattern containing multiple layers of runes.
"Look at this!" I pointed to a specific part of the stamp. The arrangement of these runes resembles programming code!
Li Yang leaned in to take a closer look. They hid the activation sequence in official documents. How clever!
We began to decipher the code. Soon, an unexpected discovery emerged: this was not a simple password but a complete program path diagram. It detailed how to activate that secret button.
However, we also uncovered a disturbing fact: once this program was initiated, it could not be interrupted. Furthermore, it would not only open the passage to the underground third level but also activate something else entirely.
The situation changed abruptly. "You guys, look at the hospital's surveillance," Miho suddenly said.
Through her hacked surveillance system, we saw several people in lab coats enter the elevator. They looked like ordinary doctors, but my special eyes told me that these individuals also carried the viral program within them.
Moreover, it seemed they were aware of that secret button as well.
