The crack in the night sky grew wider, revealing an abyss of darkness. Countless blood-red beams of light poured out, spreading through the air like veins. On the ritual platform at the mountaintop, the chanting of the figures in black became increasingly fervent.
"We must stop them!" Honda Miho exclaimed, "Once the gate is fully opened—"
But that monster, Zhou Jing, gazed at the massive flesh-and-blood beast before him.
Wait, something struck me; the images I saw through the contaminated blood. Through our earlier contact, I not only witnessed the memories of those who were sacrificed but also discovered an important detail: the symbol on the monster's chest was not a single entity but comprised ten smaller symbols. Each corresponded to a specific location.
"It's a seal!" Ivanov seemed to understand something. "The Soviets used this method to control out-of-control experiments."
"Exactly," Honda Miho said as she pulled a metal box from her backpack. The specially made bullets were engraved with the same symbols. "If we can hit all the points simultaneously—"
Before she could finish her sentence, the monster let out a deafening roar. Its body began to glow, and countless blood-colored threads extended from within, connecting to the crack in the sky.
"It wants to merge with the gate!" Ivanov shouted. "Quick! I'll distract it!"
He charged forward, firing bullets that exploded against the monster's body in a shower of blue sparks. The blood-soaked tendrils immediately pursued him.
We split up; Honda Miho quickly distributed bullets, reminding us of our positions: the ten zodiac signs' Directions!
Zhou Jing and I nodded and each found our mark. The monster was drawn away by Ivanov, exposing its massive form. Under the moonlight, the ten symbols were clearly visible, resembling some ancient star map.
At midnight, Honda Miho raised her gun and aimed. "Now!"
Three gunshots rang out almost simultaneously. The specially made bullets traced blue arcs through the air, accurately striking three symbols. The monster's body jolted violently, emitting a painful howl.
But it quickly reacted, turning to attack us. Just then, a commotion erupted at the mountaintop.
"No!" one of the figures in black shouted. "The ritual has been interrupted!"
It turned out that after those symbols were hit, some energy wave affected the entire altar. The living specimens in their glass chambers began to awaken, their blood glowing.
"Keep going!" Honda Miho shouted as she dodged a tendril's attack while aiming for the next position.
In another round of fire, three more symbols were struck. This time, the monster's reaction was even more intense; its body began to disintegrate as countless masks fell away from its flesh.
The crack in the sky also started to tremble, as if something was about to break free from it. A suffocating pressure emanated from the abyss, distorting even the air around us.
"This is our last chance!" Ivanov yelled. He was already injured but continued to draw fire with his machine gun.
We aimed for the final position. Just then, a familiar figure emerged from among the black-clad individuals at the mountaintop—Yamada! Though he had been consumed by a whirlpool of blood, he had somehow survived in some form.
"Foolish humans," his voice echoed through the air. "Do you think you can stop the descent of a god like this?"
He raised his hands, and countless blood-red threads fell from the sky, wrapping around the monster. The symbols that had been struck began to restore themselves, emitting an eerie red glow.
It’s over, Yamada laughed maniacally, the door is open, and the god is about to descend!
Suddenly, a sharp gunshot interrupted his words. A bullet pierced through his chest, but it wasn’t fired by any of us.
Who?
A figure emerged from the thick fog atop the mountain. The person wore a damaged bronze mask, and their clothes were stained with blood.
Impossible! Yamada shouted in terror, you’re supposed to be—
Did you forget? The newcomer removed the mask, revealing a familiar face: Jiang Zhendong! Our police will always come back.
In that moment of distraction for Yamada, we all pulled the trigger simultaneously. A bullet accurately struck the final symbol.
A roar that could tear the sky apart echoed through the valley. The monster's body began to collapse, and countless blood-red lights erupted from within. The rift in the sky also started to tremble, as if something was being forcibly pushed back.
No! Yamada let out a desperate scream, you’ve ruined everything!
His body suddenly swelled, countless vein-like tentacles growing wildly. But quickly, these tentacles retracted like a receding tide, and his entire being began to age and rot rapidly, ultimately turning into a pool of blood.
In the sky, the massive rift finally began to heal. But just before it closed completely, we seemed to glimpse something in the abyss, watching this world with countless eyes.
In those gazes was an indescribable ancientness and hatred.
