"Hey, what are you doing?" Yun Li watched as the jewelry box was thrown into the trash can in an arc, landing with a clatter.
Jiang Shiyu grabbed her by the shoulder, turned her around, and tucked her long hair behind her back before putting the necklace on her.
It felt cold against her neck, and she froze for a moment. Once it was on, Jiang Shiyu turned her back around, gently fixing her hair. "If you can't put it on yourself, just let me help you."
Yun Li bit her lip and looked up at him. "You know that's not what I meant."
Jiang Shiyu replied calmly, his tone steady. "I’m happy to do it."
He offered gifts without concern for their weight; as long as he was willing, she could accept them without worry. The burden was merely superficial and would fade away over time.
Jiang Shiyu nudged her toward the door. "Alright, get some rest. You have work tomorrow."
Yun Li didn’t hesitate any longer and stepped inside.
Lying in bed, she tossed and turned, still not having shared her parents' thoughts with him. Unbeknownst to herself, she had already accepted him in an unspoken way. She began to worry about whether he would pass her parents' approval.
She took out her phone and sent him a message.
"Are you asleep?"
"No, what's up?"
"My parents said they don't approve of us right now."
After sending it, Yun Li looked at her words and felt strange; in the next moment, she realized she had misspoken and quickly retracted the message.
She started to edit it, but Jiang Shiyu had already replied.
"Has Hao Hao accepted me?"
Yun Li deleted part of what she had been editing and replied firmly, "No."
"That was a mistake."
There was no response from him after that, and Yun Li found it rare to say anything more. She put down her phone, but just then it pinged with a new message.
She lay still, trying not to look, but somehow, she couldn't resist glancing over.
"Open the door."
The two words made Yun Li jump up in surprise. She held her phone, staring at the message, and a moment later, another one came through.
"I'm outside, it's so hot."
"Can you let me in?"
Yun Li frowned, finding it strange to hear those words coming from him.
"Possessed by a ghost?"
Jiang Shiyu stood outside, a light smile on his face but with an edge to his voice.
"Open the door, or I'll break it down."
Yun Li felt relieved; this was more like his usual tone. The phone rang, and she hesitated about whether to answer it. After ten seconds of ringing, she finally picked up.
"What is it?" Her voice was soft and slightly sulky.
"I'm outside."
"Oh."
Seeing her play dumb, Jiang Shiyu could only threaten her: "Yun Hao Hao, you can choose between climbing through the window or me breaking down the door."
Puffed up with anger, Yun Li got out of bed to open the door. As soon as she opened it, she turned and walked away, acting as if she didn’t want to deal with him.
Jiang Shiyu stepped inside and smoothly closed the door behind him. In just a few strides, he caught up with her and lifted her off the ground in a swift motion.
Yun Li was startled, her slippers falling off. Instinctively, she wrapped her arms around his neck, her face flushed with surprise and anger as she exclaimed, "What are you doing, Jiang Shiyu?"
With an arched brow and a smirk on his lips, Jiang Shiyu carried her toward the bedroom. "I'm giving you a hug pillow."
He placed her on the bed and climbed in beside her, wrapping his arms around Yun Li without giving her a chance to protest. She fumbled with the smooth silk fabric of his pajamas, finding it too slippery to grasp anything.
"I don't need a pillow."
Jiang Shiyu closed his eyes, pretending to be sleepy. He rubbed his chin against her head and lazily said, "Good Baby, time to sleep."
Yun Li was startled and froze in place. Hearing such cheesy words from him was truly shocking.
However, she quickly accepted it. Ever since she had misspoken, he had been strutting around her like a peacock every day. Whenever Yun Li said something sarcastic, he would counter it, making her face flush with embarrassment.
Unable to win against his shamelessness, Yun Li reached out and tugged at him. He acted as if he had no bones, clinging to her and claiming he was dead.
Yun Li felt both angry and amused; he was heavy. She gave him a light shove. "You're so heavy! Stand up properly."
He continued to lean on her shoulder but shifted enough so that he wasn't putting all his weight on her, making it a bit easier to bear.
