Yun Li realized that it had already been a week since that incident.
Over the weekend, she took some time to visit home while Yun Zheng went to supervise an assessment, and Deng Ting was still at work. Yun Li looked around the house, planning to tidy it up a bit to lift her parents' spirits.
She cleaned the house thoroughly, mopped the floors, wiped down the tables, and tossed all the clothes from the bathroom into the washing machine. While she was organizing, her phone rang; it was Shu Ran calling.
Yun Li propped her phone up on a shelf in the storage room as she bent down to sort through things. "What did Uncle and Auntie say?"
"My parents aren't home yet. I'm just tidying up a bit to try and make them a little happier, so they won't be so angry."
Shu Ran, seeing the clutter through the video call, asked, "Aren't you going to throw away all this stuff?"
"I'm getting rid of some things I don't need." As she spoke, Yun Li stood up with a pile of miscellaneous items and headed outside.
She tossed them into the trash bin downstairs; living on the second floor made it quite convenient. After returning inside, Yun Li panted slightly and clapped her hands together. "I'll take a break; there's just a little bit left."
Shu Ran pointed to a box and asked, "What's inside that? It's still sealed."
Yun Li followed her gaze; the box wasn't very big and was sealed with tape, covered in a thick layer of dust. She pursed her lips and walked over to squat down and wipe off the dust with a cloth.
She went to find scissors to open it and brought her phone over to show Shu Ran. "These are all things related to him. Do you remember this notebook?"
Shu Ran gazed at it, memories flooding back as the old notebook became familiar again. "I remember; you wrote down all his likes in there—more detailed than even what the emperor would have in his palace."
Yun Li opened it and flipped through a couple of pages, revealing neat handwriting on yellowed paper. A wave of complex emotions washed over her as she sighed at how quickly time had passed.
She set the notebook aside and pointed to an item shaped like a bowl. "This is a Coconut Carving he gave me when we were in college before we got together, and this Crystal Glass Polar Bear was something he bought for me when we visited the aquarium."
Shu Ran noticed a black jewelry box and said, "That jewelry box looks familiar; can you bring it closer?"
Yun Li picked up the jewelry box and held it up to the camera for her to see.
Shu Ran recognized it immediately; this was indeed the jewelry box.
Yun Li looked at the box, feeling unfamiliar with the brands inside, having never heard of them before. She opened it, revealing a necklace that had faded from her memory over the years. It felt like a reunion, stirring unspoken emotions within her.
"Let me see," Shu Ran said.
Yun Li held the necklace out for her to examine. "Here it is."
Shu Ran scrutinized it closely. "How come I’ve never seen this design from their collection?"
"Maybe you forgot! There are so many styles, it's hard to remember them all," Yun Li replied.
Shu Ran shook her head. "Their brand only releases new pieces every three years, and they’re difficult to buy. I waited six years just to get a bracelet."
Yun Li fell into thought, glancing at the necklace as a fleeting idea crossed her mind but was quickly dismissed.
However, in those few seconds of silence, Shu Ran seemed to sense what she was thinking. "It can't be fake. Jiang Shiyu may not be great at relationships, but his character is trustworthy."
"I know," Yun Li said. "Is it really expensive if Ran Ran customized it?"
Shu Ran nodded. "Customized pieces aren't ordinary prices. Check if there's a signature mark from the Chief Designer on the back of the necklace."
Yun Li flipped over the Auspicious Cloud Pattern and looked closely at a tiny gap in the Blue Diamond.
She stared at the letter for a long time before Shu Ran impatiently urged, "Is there one? Is there?"
Her voice was slightly hoarse as she replied, "Yes."
Yun Li placed the necklace down and closed the jewelry box. She stood up while Shu Ran continued talking excitedly.
"Back then, Jiang Shiyu really went all out! The Chief Designer is hard to book; I remember that necklace was your birthday gift from him. How did he manage that in such a short time?"
Yun Li had already stepped out of the storage room and hesitated before speaking up, "Ran Ran, is this necklace worth over a million?"
"It’s been worth over a million for a while now; I estimate it should be around four hundred thousand or more."
This made Yun Li turn back and reopen the jewelry box to take another look at the necklace inside.
She gasped in surprise, "It's that expensive? You could buy a small apartment in Jiangzhou with that!"
