Jiang Zesheng seemed to be helping, but in reality, he was aiding him. "You little rascal, hurry up and kneel before Uncle Yun. I can't stand what you've done."
"Yes, you deserve it. Kneel down, Xiao Zheng. If my chicken whip doesn't work, use the belt and beat him until he's dead."
Yun Zheng held the chicken whip in his hand, unsure of how to proceed.
Jiang Shiyu understood and knelt on one knee as well. A man's knees are said to be made of gold, but this time he was willing to forgo that gold.
He took off his suit jacket, leaving only a shirt on. With determination in his eyes, he said, "Uncle, you can hit me however you want."
Yun Zheng was startled. Turning around, he saw a man taller than him suddenly kneeling and stripping off his clothes, looking as if he was prepared to face death.
Jiang Zesheng shouted from the side, "Don't be afraid, Yun Zheng! This is your grandfather; I’ll guarantee your safety. If you can't do it, I will. I've wanted to beat this little rascal for a long time."
Saying this, Jiang Zesheng stood up and struck Jiang Shiyu's back with his sandalwood cane.
With each strike came a solid thud against flesh. Jiang Shiyu gritted his teeth, his gaze unwavering as he knelt there enduring each blow.
Yun Zheng couldn't bear to watch any longer and quickly intervened. "Enough! Uncle, stop hitting him."
He blocked Jiang Zesheng's next strike. Panting heavily from exhaustion, Jiang Zesheng sat down with Yun Zheng's help.
"At your age, you shouldn't let your temper get the best of you. Be careful with your health," Yun Zheng said as he looked at Jiang Shiyu with a sigh. "Xiao Jiang, after all these years, there's no point in dwelling on the past. But I will never agree to the two of you being together; even if Hao Hao never marries anyone in her life, I won't allow it."
Jiang Shiyu suddenly raised his head, his throat dry and urgent. "Uncle, I—"
"Enough! That contract won't be signed; you're simply not suited for each other."
Jiang Shiyu was escorted out, and Jiang Zesheng called out to Yun Zheng: "Xiao Zheng, I'm different from A Yu. We're still friends, right? We can't let our relationship fade just because of A Yu."
Yun Zheng replied, "Uncle, I understand that."
Jiang Zesheng happily led Jiang Shiyu home. In the car, he even hummed a tune—“Dongfang Hong.”
Once home, Jiang Zesheng asked Mother Wang to fetch some medicine and told Jiang Shiyu to lie down on the sofa.
After taking off his shirt, Jiang Shiyu lay on the couch with a pillow pressed against him.
Jiang Zesheng sprayed medicine on the bruised areas. "It's better for grandpa to hit you than for your father-in-law to do so."
"I know."
Jiang Zesheng snorted, "You're quite honest and straightforward. So, have you pursued Hao Hao?"
Jiang Shiyu remained silent. Seeing him not respond, Jiang Zesheng poked his wound with a finger. This time, Jiang Shiyu couldn't pretend to be dead anymore. He hissed and turned to look at him, "If you poke me again, just wait for my corpse to be collected!"
"You come here to pledge your loyalty without even pursuing her. How thick-skinned can you be?"
Jiang Shiyu lay back down, his tone firm and defiant, "Sooner or later."
"You! Your temperament really makes me wonder who you take after. Stubborn as a mule."
Jiang Shiyu retorted, "Like you! Don't forget how ruthless you were when you pursued Grandma back then."
Jiang Zesheng was taken aback by the reminder and slapped him on the back of the head with a crisp sound. "I'm not as pathetic as you. It's been so many years, and you still haven't settled down. You're almost forty now; it seems I won't be able to hold my grandchild anytime soon!"
Jiang Shiyu got up and put on the shirt that Mother Wang had brought over. The collar was a bit crooked, hanging loosely.
"Grandpa, I just turned thirty this year; there's still ten years until I'm forty. If I reach forty, won't you be ninety?"
The old man grunted lightly, "That won't be far off either."
"Back then, your mother and your grandfather pressured you, and you didn't let me interfere. You're still my grandson; there's no escaping that. You might as well let go early and enjoy being a wealthy second-generation."
"Anyway, your grandpa here is never short on money. As long as you don't break the law, I can support you for life."
"Now I do regret not keeping a closer eye on you; otherwise, I would already have grandchildren."
As Jiang Shiyu headed upstairs, he paused at those words for a moment before continuing up.
