Yun Li woke up at nine in the morning and found a note on the table.
“There’s congee in the pot.”
She opened the rice cooker, and the aroma of century egg and lean meat congee wafted out. After washing up, Yun Li returned to enjoy her meal, finishing two bowls before washing the dishes.
She called Shu, “Are you free today?”
“Yeah! I’ll be home all day.”
“I want to learn how to make that spicy braised dish you made before. Can you teach me?”
Shu readily agreed, having nothing else to do.
“Great!”
When Yun Li arrived at Shu’s house, the ingredients she had ordered were already there. The two of them began to work in the kitchen.
As a novice, Yun Li was cautious while cooking and moved slowly. Shu patiently directed her from the side. They hastily prepared lunch before diving into making the spicy braised dish.
As the duck simmered in the pot, Shu casually asked, “Hao Hao, what made you suddenly want to learn this?”
“I think it’s really delicious. I figured if I learned how to make it, I could whip it up anytime.”
Shu pinched her cheek playfully. “It’s been a while since I cooked for you; you must be sick of takeout by now!”
“Hey, have you gained weight?”
Yun Li gasped and quickly touched her face. “No way!”
Shu scrutinized her closely and noted not only had she gained weight, but her complexion was also much rosier, radiating a certain glow.
Yun Li began to sweat nervously and laughed it off. “Maybe it’s just that I’ve been in a good mood lately. Talking with Fu Jing has been really enjoyable, so my spirits are up.”
Shu was not easily diverted from her curiosity and pressed on with a teasing tone. “So, how far have you two gotten?”
“Just… still at that stage.”
“What stage?” Shu was dissatisfied with such a vague answer and wrapped her arms around Yun Li’s, determined to pry out every detail of their relationship. “Have you talked about anything intimate?”
Yun Li followed her lead and replied, "Yes."
Shu smiled, "So there's some ambiguity. Has he hinted at anything?"
Hints? Yun Li didn't want to delve into what those hints might be; she just wanted to move on quickly. "Yes."
Shu's mood brightened, and she encouraged, "Hao Hao, keep it up!"
Yun Li nodded eagerly like a chick pecking at grains. The aroma of the spicy dish filled the kitchen, overwhelming them with its intensity.
After a while, the spiciness subsided. They both tasted the dish and found it delicious.
Shu planned to watch a drama but was interrupted by Yun Li.
"I'll save you some; I'll take the rest home," she said.
Yun Li scooped a bit out and packed it neatly into a container. She glanced at the time; it was already past four in the afternoon.
"I'm heading home now," she announced.
Shu was lounging on the sofa, enjoying her meal while watching Yun Li grab her bag.
"Are you not eating at home?"
"Nope. You said I've gained weight, so I'm on a diet today."
Once Yun Li returned home, she sat in the living room, keeping an ear out for any sounds from next door.
Jiang Shiyu sent a message: "I might not be able to cook tonight; go eat over at Shu's."
She replied: "Okay."
Today was his thirtieth birthday, yet he was still so busy. Yun Li stared at the chat window in thought before finally turning off her screen.
It wasn't until after ten that she heard the door open next door.
Quickly, Yun Li rushed to open her door. Jiang Shiyu paused when he heard the sound, turning to meet Yun Li's gaze as she dashed out.
Yun Li awkwardly greeted him with a soft "hi."
"What's wrong?" His voice was cold and slightly hoarse, and his eyes appeared a bit weary.
Yun Li bit her lip and said, "I bought some spicy marinated dishes. Do you want to eat?"
Jiang Shiyu nodded without hesitation.
"Then come in!"
Yun Li opened the food container, and Jiang Shiyu looked at her with a slight smile. "Didn’t you say you bought it from outside? Why is it in a home food container?"
Yun Li realized she had forgotten this step of the disguise. She paused, thinking of an excuse, her tone lacking confidence. "I switched it to a different container after buying it; it looks more appetizing this way."
The doorbell rang, and Yun Li went to open the door, revealing that the cake she ordered had arrived.
As she brought the cake inside, Jiang Shiyu's deep gaze was fixed on her, making Yun Li suddenly feel uneasy.
Carrying the cake over, she said, "I suddenly felt like having some cake. Want to share?"
Yun Li set the cake down and noticed the man's gaze growing increasingly intense.
Looking at the exquisite cake and the spicy marinated dishes, Jiang Shiyu reached out and embraced Yun Li, his palm resting on the back of her head. "Did you prepare this just for me?"
