Jiang Shiyu lifted her gently, leaning over to the bedside table to grab a tissue for her.
"Move aside, I can do it myself," Yun Li protested.
Jiang Shiyu insisted, "If you move even a little, I'll kiss you."
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Yun Li hesitated to blow her nose too forcefully. After tossing the used tissue into the trash can, Jiang Shiyu picked her up again. Yun Li turned her head and lay down, pulling her shirt over her shoulder.
He held her close, kissing her softly by the ear. Yun Li tried to retreat further into herself, but he followed her movements. Eventually, there was nowhere left to hide, and she clung to the edge of the bed, dissatisfied. "You're crowding me."
Jiang Shiyu turned her over effortlessly, cradling her like a child against him. He felt content holding her tightly and reached out to tuck the blanket around her.
Yun Li propped herself up and frowned. "Let me go."
With a smirk, Jiang Shiyu refused to release her.
Feeling something hard pressed against her, she struggled even more vigorously. The tension in the air was palpable; his voice became hoarse as he warned himself that if he moved any further, he might lose control.
Yun Li stopped struggling and lowered her head, murmuring softly, "I don't like this; it feels uncomfortable."
Jiang Shiyu shifted his position and let her down gently. He kissed her cheek and leaned in for a kiss on the lips, but Yun Li dodged him. Instead, his kiss landed on her smooth neck. Yun Li's fingers curled slightly as she pressed against his shoulder with less force.
Breathing heavily, Jiang Shiyu asked, "Are you tired today?"
Yun Li replied honestly, "A little."
She unbuttoned her nightgown and slipped it off; tonight felt more special than any previous occasion. His touch was gentle—so gentle that it made her tremble—but it was also heavy in a way that didn’t feel unpleasant. The kisses never ceased.
Yun Li tilted her head back, elongating her graceful neck while Jiang Shiyu's body glistened with sweat. The weather in Beijing was neither cold nor hot this month, yet Yun Li felt as if she were in the midst of summer.
Sweat dripped down, tracing along her delicate collarbone and sliding into the hollow between them.
Sweat-soaked and wrapped in each other's embrace, they watched as the moment lingered on, stretching endlessly. Yun Li released herself, surprised at how much she could accept. Lost in the moment, both of them were devoid of any rational thought.
Jiang Shiyu switched to a second attempt, still reminiscent of the first. Otherwise, fearing a break, it might not stop midway. Yun Li, drained of energy, held onto her while they washed up in the bathroom. Jiang Shiyu's gaze softened as he looked at her; Yun Li's cheeks flushed, her hair damp with sweat clinging to her skin like a broken doll.
She had disguised herself like a prickly hedgehog, refusing to acknowledge her feelings for him, burying them deep within and allowing no one to touch that part of her. It was her way of protecting herself. He had wronged her. After waiting for ten years, he wouldn’t mind waiting another ten—twenty years from twenty to thirty, thirty to forty; he could wait.
She would soften her hardened exterior until she fully accepted him. Yun Li was exhausted, so much so that she overslept the next day.
She was late.
Yun Li complained, “Why didn’t you wake me up?”
Jiang Shiyu packed sandwiches into a bag and picked up Yun Li’s car keys. “I’ll drive you.”
Yun Li retorted, “I can drive myself; I don’t need you to take me.”
“I can get you there faster; it’ll only take ten minutes.”
Reluctantly agreeing to let Jiang Shiyu drive since she didn’t want to be late, she followed him to her adorably tiny car. “It suits you well,” he remarked.
Yun Li didn’t have time for banter and quickly got into the car. As she opened the bag to eat a sandwich with milk, Jiang Shiyu found it amusing; it was his first time driving such a cute little vehicle, which felt entirely out of character for him—like a muscular man wearing a skirt. The image made it hard for him to suppress his laughter.
Yun Li spoke up, while Jiang Shiyu remained calm, quickly accepting the situation. He raised an eyebrow and said, "Are you so happy that I'm sending you to work? If that's the case, I'll make it a daily routine."
Yun Li immediately stopped laughing. "No need, I can go by myself," she paused for a moment and added, "Today was just an accident."
