She quickly stepped outside and shoved the glasses into his hands, returning them to him.
"Put them on," Jiang Shiyu said, reaching up to tousle his hair, making it look even more stylishly disheveled. He turned and walked back inside.
Yun Li hesitated at the entrance. "I’ll just stand here; you can give them to me!"
Hearing this, he turned back, his gaze curious, his eyes narrowing slightly. Yun Li couldn’t meet his eyes and looked away instead.
It was late at night, and it felt inappropriate for a man and a woman to be alone in a room together.
Jiang Shiyu regarded her leisurely. "You’re single, and I’m single; what’s inappropriate about it?"
His voice carried a lazy tone as he reasoned, "You don’t have a husband, and I don’t have a wife. No one’s going to catch us in the act."
Yun Li's eyes darted around; there was some truth to his words, yet they felt strange. It seemed she had been drawn into his logic.
"Come inside; don’t mind her," Jiang Shiyu continued. "The strawberries are quite sweet, but there are only a few left. I’ll have to enjoy them all by myself."
Upon hearing this, Yun Li shook off her earlier confusion and stepped inside. "You can’t eat them all; I haven’t had any yet!"
She sat on the sofa and picked up a fork. The strawberries were large and red; she couldn’t fit one whole in her mouth, so she bit into it halfway, the juice bursting forth almost spilling from the corners of her mouth. She quickly sucked it back in just as Jiang Shiyu went to the kitchen to pour water, placing all the cups on the top shelf while conveniently closing the door behind him.
After finishing the strawberries, Yun Li reached for a small cake on the table and began eating while glancing at him. He sat across from her with a laptop resting on his knees, fingers tapping away at the keys. Wearing glasses, his deep-set eyes were accentuated by a few strands of hair falling over his forehead. Suddenly, Yun Li felt parched.
She got up to pour herself some water and asked, "Where are your cups?"
By then, she was already in the kitchen, looking around but unable to find any.
Jiang Shiyu set his laptop down and stood up to join her in the kitchen. He stood behind her and opened the upper cabinet. Her back pressed against his chest, and she could distinctly feel the solid wall of muscle against her.
With her hands braced against the edge of the counter, she dared not turn around for fear of colliding with him. Her ears flushed red without her realizing it as Jiang Shiyu glanced down and noticed. A subtle smile curved on his lips as he took down a cup but didn’t hand it to her; instead, he poured some prepared goji berry water into it right in front of her.
This action effectively enclosed her within his embrace. The potent scent of his cologne surged into her nostrils, causing her breath to quicken and her face to heat up.
The red goji berry water was poured into a transparent cup, and Jiang Shiyu's deep voice echoed in her ears, cautioning her that it was hot. It felt as if an electric current had struck her earlobes, leaving a tingling sensation. Blushing, she nodded and took the cup after blowing on it. Jiang Shiyu stood behind her, tilting his head to observe her.
"Is it good?" he asked.
Yun Li took a small sip; it was still too hot and didn't quench her thirst, but she nodded anyway. "It's good."
"What does it taste like?" he continued to inquire.
Yun Li replied, "I couldn't really taste it just now." She blew on the drink again and took a larger gulp, only to immediately set the cup down as the heat burned her tongue, leaving it numb.
Jiang Shiyu turned her body towards him, lifting her chin gently with a frown. "Open your mouth."
Yun Li obediently complied, showing him her burnt tongue, which was slightly red but without any blisters. She noticed that the other parts of her mouth were unharmed.
As she relaxed a bit, she caught sight of his furrowed brow through the lenses of his glasses, which reflected a serious and profound expression. Unbeknownst to her, her hand had found its way to his chest.
When she realized it, her gaze was already fixed on his well-defined pectorals. Jiang Shiyu's hand that had been under her chin had now dropped down. He looked at her delicate hand resting on his chest with curiosity.
"What are you doing?" His voice carried a teasing tone.
Yun Li hesitated to withdraw her hand and complained with a hint of dissatisfaction, "Why did you boil the water so hot? Was that intentional?"
Jiang Shiyu chuckled lightly, his chest vibrating with amusement. "How can you drink water if it's not boiled? I kindly made you some hot water, and instead of being grateful, you're blaming me for it. Yun Li, you're being unreasonable."
Yun Li leaned against the edge of the stove, acutely aware that her face was flushed, revealing her true feelings. Her eyes were fixed on him as she stared at his prominent Adam's apple, speaking awkwardly, "Can you move? It's too hot."
A playful smirk danced on Jiang Shiyu's lips as he replied mischievously, "Where is it hot? It's quite cool here."
It was only mid-April; indeed, it wasn't hot at all. Was he deliberately trying to tease her by dressing like this?
Yun Li swallowed hard, keeping her gaze on his throat. "Are you trying to seduce me again?"
Jiang Shiyu leaned in slightly closer, their bodies almost touching. Yun Li instinctively leaned back, his large hand supporting her back.
"This is how I usually am at home. I don’t understand what made you think I was flirting with you."
Yun Li pressed her lips together, lightly biting the flesh of her lip. Who couldn’t act tough? She wrapped her arms around his neck, her tone firm: "You are the one flirting with me." As she spoke, she tilted her head and kissed the prominent Adam's apple on his throat.
"That's right, you’re the one who’s flirting with me, not that I wanted to take the initiative."
With this thought in mind, she felt a bit more at ease. She had simply made the mistake that every woman in the world could make—how could she resist a handsome man so close at hand?
Jiang Shiyu wrapped both arms around her back, his soft lips brushing against her ear as he whispered, "This time it was you who took the initiative. Don’t blame me."
Yun Li wouldn’t admit it; it was definitely him who had drawn her in.
