Yun Li was busy with rehearsals today and got off work late. She messaged Jiang Shiyu, "I won’t be back for dinner tonight, don’t wait for me."
Jiang Shiyu was at the grocery store when he saw her message and replied, "Okay." He finished his shopping and went home to cook as usual.
After heating the food twice, he heard the sound of the elevator outside. When he opened the door, he happened to run into Yun Li coming back.
Yun Li paused for a moment when she saw him, looking a bit dazed. "Hi," she said. "Did you just finish cooking?"
Jiang Shiyu nodded.
"Then enjoy your meal; I’ve already eaten," Yun Li said as she opened the door and stepped inside. Jiang Shiyu watched her door for a while before retreating back into his apartment.
He sat down at the table, where two sets of chopsticks lay. After a moment of silence, he stood up and placed a photo of his mother across from him, facing himself.
He began to serve himself rice and said to the photo, "Your mom was too busy to have dinner with me today, so I guess I’ll let you try my cooking." His tone was anything but lonely; it carried a sense of benevolence.
The next day, Yun Li got off work a bit earlier. Worried that Jiang Shiyu might not know she was coming back for dinner, she quickly sent him another message: "I’ll be back for dinner tonight."
"Okay," came his reply.
Yun Li arrived at his door without even stepping inside her own apartment and knocked on his door.
When Jiang Shiyu opened it, he was wearing a black shirt with several buttons undone, revealing part of his chest. Yun Li felt as if her eyes had been struck by lightning; she hurriedly looked away. "Is dinner ready?"
Jiang Shiyu smiled slightly and said, "Yes, come in!"
The dining table was quiet except for the sound of chopsticks clinking against bowls. Yun Li found her gaze uncontrollably drifting toward his chest but quickly pulled it back without leaving a trace.
After finishing dinner, Yun Li quickly washed the dishes and left. Just then, Shu Ran sent her a video of a handsome white guy.
Shu Ran stood on the streets of New York when a tall, handsome white guy walked by.
"Wow, he's stunning," she thought to herself.
Yun Li, who was with her, remarked, "He might have body odor."
"Can you smell it through the screen?" Shu Ran replied.
"Not really," Yun Li admitted. "But you’ve been busy lately; you didn’t even respond to the handsome guy videos I sent you."
Yun Li realized she hadn’t opened her short video app in days. "Let me check," she said.
As she opened the app, she found dozens of messages from Shu Ran, each featuring different types of handsome guys.
Yun Li smiled widely for a moment and even left a heart comment using her alternate account, ensuring no one would notice.
Shu Ran saw her comment and liked it. After finishing the videos, Yun Li felt a wave of emptiness wash over her. She tilted her head back, recalling how Jiang Shiyu had looked earlier in a black shirt that revealed part of his chest.
She must have been possessed by something dirty to have such chaotic thoughts all the time.
After taking a shower and applying hair oil, she picked up her phone and saw a message from Jiang Shiyu.
"Are you eating?" he asked, accompanied by a photo of a platter with water and strawberries—her favorites.
"I'm eating," she replied.
"Come over."
Yun Li hesitated for a moment; it didn’t seem appropriate to go to a man's place late at night!
"Why don’t you bring it to me?" she texted back.
Jiang Shiyu chuckled at her message, finding it amusing.
"I could bring it to you. Is there a tip involved?"
Yun Li bit her lower lip, realizing it was a bit impolite to treat him like a hotel service staff. She jumped off the sofa and said, "I'll get it."
As she opened the door, she found that the opposite door was also ajar. Jiang Shiyu stood there in a black tank top, his muscles prominent and his posture tall. With his arms crossed against the doorframe, he reached out and asked, "Where are my glasses?"
Yun Li's breath caught in her throat as her eyes darted around nervously. "What do you need glasses for at this hour?"
Jiang Shiyu smiled, his voice somehow more melodious than usual. "I need them for work. They've been at your place for nearly two months now. Are you planning to keep them as a souvenir?"
Yun Li immediately turned back to retrieve them. "Who’s keeping them?"
The last time his glasses had fallen on the sofa when he left, she had picked them up, intending to return them when she had the chance. But she had completely forgotten about it.
She opened the nightstand drawer and took out the pair of silver-rimmed glasses.
