Suddenly, she remembered how he looked with his glasses on, wearing a shirt—an intriguing mix of sophistication and rebelliousness that drew attention in a captivating way.
Yun Li turned and headed towards the hotel, sending a message to Zhou Sheng.
"I’m heading back to rest."
He replied quickly, "Alright, Hao Hao will rest. I’ll take you to explore other places tomorrow."
Yun Li responded, "Mm-hmm."
Jiang Shiyu glanced down and caught sight of the chat history. In just two seconds, he averted his gaze, his tone indifferent.
Yun Li found his reaction puzzling. Was he really going to spread rumors just because he didn’t like the sight of him? Jiang Shiyu knew she wouldn’t believe him. The man with him must be his boyfriend. Didn’t she notice how they were inseparable?
Yun Li thought it was nothing unusual; hadn’t she been inseparable from Qin Nianzhe before? Was he implying the same about her?
Jiang Shiyu fell silent, gripping her wrist and pulling her back. "Come with me."
Yun Li moved slightly but couldn’t break free, her voice laced with annoyance. "Hey! What are you doing?"
"You need to see for yourself," he said.
They returned to the spot where they had just been, but Zhou Sheng and the man were already gone. Jiang Shiyu scanned the area, directing his gaze towards a less crowded spot near the intersection.
Feeling tired, Yun Li leaned back and allowed him to pull her along; it was less exhausting this way and somewhat comfortable.
Sure enough, not far ahead, she spotted the two of them. Zhou Sheng was holding the man's hand, speaking softly to him as if trying to comfort him. The man tossed his head back dramatically, closing his eyes in an exaggerated manner.
Yun Li noticed this too, her eyes widening slightly. They continued following at a distance; as they left the street behind, there were fewer people around, making them feel increasingly exposed.
Zhou Sheng led the man into a residential building.
Yun Li hid behind Jiang Shiyu, feeling uneasy. "Is this really okay?" she asked.
Jiang Shiyu smiled for the first time that day. "Weren't you the one who didn't believe it?"
"Is it possible that people just interact like this?" she replied, unsure.
Jiang Shiyu looked at her with a strange expression, as if to say, "Are you sure?"
Fine! Even she didn't believe it herself.
As they went upstairs, the two of them had to be cautious when they heard strange noises coming from above. The staircase was narrow, and the steps were uneven, varying in width.
Jiang Shiyu leaned against the wall and stopped, gesturing for Yun Li to take a look.
Hearing the sounds, Yun Li knew exactly what was happening. She shot a glare at Jiang Shiyu and mouthed, "You're insane."
Then she turned around and quietly started to head downstairs. However, the stairs were dark without any lights; the street lamps outside only illuminated the upper part and not the lower steps.
She had just been led up by Jiang Shiyu, so she was following down step by step. Yet, she still misstepped.
The stairs were crooked, leaving only a tiny edge to step on, making it easy to fall.
Yun Li was startled as her foot slipped off the step below her, and her body began to tilt downward. Just then, someone caught her around the waist, preventing her from falling.
But the noise still caught Zhou Sheng's attention.
"What's going on?" he called out in a soft voice from the top of the stairs.
Zhou Sheng shouted towards the staircase, "Who’s there?"
Yun Li turned her head and mouthed to Jiang Shiyu, "What should we do?"
"Stand still," Jiang Shiyu replied calmly.
Yun Li had twisted her ankle slightly but managed to keep standing.
Then Jiang Shiyu revealed himself. Upon seeing him, Zhou Sheng began to look nervous.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
Jiang Shiyu lifted his eyelids slightly and glanced at him coldly. "No matter what your intentions are with her, I don't want to see you again tomorrow."
With that revelation, Zhou Sheng realized he could no longer approach Yun Li.
But he was furious. "Damn it, you're such a pain in the ass!"
The man grabbed Zhou Sheng and said, "Forget it, let's find the next one."
Yun Li was filming with her phone, capturing the scene between Zhou Sheng and the man.
"If you dare to mess with other women while being married, I won’t hesitate to put you both on television for everyone to see," Zhou Sheng warned. "I know plenty of reporters, especially paparazzi. If you don’t want to make the news, you better behave."
The man shrank back, shouting in a high-pitched voice. Jiang Shiyu felt like her ears were dirty and clicked her tongue in annoyance.
Zhou Sheng's face darkened as he began to vent his frustrations. "I don’t want this either! My family won’t agree to us being together. I had no choice but to come up with this plan. Can you understand me?"
Yun Li was disgusted by his words. "That’s not a valid excuse for hurting others. People like you should be exposed online to prevent any more incidents."
Yun Li raised her phone, aiming it at Jiang Shiyu's clothes.
Zhou Sheng wouldn’t allow it and shouted as he swung his fist towards her, "Delete the video!"
Yun Li instinctively hid behind Jiang Shiyu, who swiftly caught Zhou Sheng's fist with a steady grip and twisted his wrist, nearly dislocating his arm.
The man howled in pain as neighbors began to peek out of their doors to see what was happening.
Jiang Shiyu pushed him away and dusted off her hands in disdain. She asked Yun Li, "Do you have any paper?"
Yun Li pulled out a wet wipe from her bag and handed it to him.
Jiang Shiyu tore it open and wiped her hands slowly. A neighbor stepped out and asked, "What’s going on?"
Yun Li quickly explained, "He drank too much and is just being crazy!" She certainly didn’t want to make a trip to the police station in the middle of the night.
The neighbor looked skeptical but retreated back inside; he didn’t want any trouble.
Jiang Shiyu cleaned her hands and tossed the wet wipe at the man. "Trash," she muttered as she walked away with Yun Li.
Yun Li turned on her flashlight, no longer afraid of dropping it, though she had twisted her ankle a bit and felt some pain. She gritted her teeth but maintained an odd posture as they continued down the road.
Without a closer look, one might not notice.
As Jiang Shiyu approached, she noticed that Yun Li Dan was walking lightly along the path. Had she twisted her ankle?
"Just a little," Yun Li Dan replied.
