Shu Ran picked up her phone and called Cheng Zhou, confident that he could win against him. Just as Cheng Zhou was leaving the airport, his phone rang. He answered, exchanged a few words, and hung up. He glanced at the man in the passenger seat.
"Why are you here instead of going home?"
Jiang Shiyu rested one hand on the edge of the car window, lightly supporting his forehead. "I came to see if you were working with Hao Hao. If you run off, my money will be gone."
Cheng Zhou chuckled, amusement dancing in his eyes. "That's a pretty lame excuse. A company that big has to have some signs if he’s planning to skip town!"
After arriving at the hotel, Jiang Shiyu changed out of his sweater from Jing City into denim shorts and a black sleeveless top before heading to the beach where Yun was.
From a distance, he spotted a graceful figure lounging on a beach chair. Her seaweed-like curls cascaded down her back, and she wore a blue bikini that was more modest than most—rather than a triangle top, it featured a form-fitting skirt.
Shu Ran had chosen a more conservative bikini from the store in Haicheng.
When Shu Ran saw Cheng Zhou, she rushed over and grabbed his arm. "Why is he here? Did you tip him off?"
Yun noticed Shu Ran running toward them and turned to look as well, momentarily surprised before returning to normal.
"I'm just here to supervise," he replied.
"Supervise? It looks like he has ulterior motives," Shu Ran said skeptically.
Cheng Zhou patted her hand. "Let them handle it themselves; you shouldn't get involved."
Crossing her arms, Shu Ran frowned. "No way! I need to keep an eye on things. Last time something went wrong because I wasn’t around."
She pulled Cheng Zhou over to find Bai Zhousheng for a game of volleyball.
Yun stood up and walked over as Jiang Shiyu followed behind.
"Alright, let’s form teams. Since neither Hao Hao nor I can play well, we should split up," Shu Ran suggested.
Bai Zhousheng nodded in agreement. "Sure! Yun, you can team up with us."
Yun nodded and walked over to join them.
Cheng Zhou was the main player, with Shu Ran and Jiang Shiyu defending nearby. Perhaps it was because of the clouds that Bai Zhousheng was particularly motivated. He even took off his shirt, his muscular body swaying in front of Yun.
With Bai Zhousheng as the main player, Yun hardly needed to move; he just watched from the side. Cheng Zhou seemed less enthusiastic and played casually, quickly falling behind. Shu Ran wasn’t angry; after all, this volleyball game was meant to strengthen their bond.
Yun noticed that Bai Zhousheng’s gaze had begun to show admiration, which was exactly the effect Shu Ran wanted. Jiang Shiyu had a tense expression as he looked at Cheng Zhou. “Haven’t you eaten?”
Cheng Zhou raised an eyebrow. “Are you coming in?” The two switched positions, and Shu Ran had completely stepped out of bounds, cheering from the sidelines while Bai Zhousheng encouraged him.
Bai Zhousheng glanced at Jiang Shiyu, who looked at him with hostility. A smug smile crept onto Bai Zhousheng’s lips as his interest piqued. Jiang Shiyu served the ball, completely abandoning the correct serving technique from earlier; instead, he tossed it up and smashed it down hard.
Bai Zhousheng received it, but his hand went numb. Jiang Shiyu attacked using this method repeatedly. As Bai Zhousheng’s hand grew increasingly numb, those around him hesitated to receive the ball, fearing it would hit them.
The ball came at them with incredible speed and unstoppable force; one wrong move could result in injury. After several rounds of play, Bai Zhousheng hadn’t gained any advantage, and the admiration in Yun’s eyes had vanished, replaced by indifference.
Frustrated, Bai Zhousheng gritted his teeth and ended up getting hit by the fierce ball. He covered his nose and bent over in pain, tears welling up in his eyes. Cheng Zhou stood nearby with his arms crossed, simply smiling.
The tension was palpable. A fellow player rushed over to check on him and pointed at Jiang Shiyu, shouting, “Did you do that on purpose?”
Jiang Shiyu not only showed no sign of apology but also raised his eyebrows, wearing a look that seemed to invite trouble.
Furious, the man stepped forward, ready to strike him, but Bai Zhousheng stopped him, knowing that getting hurt was inevitable in such a situation.
The man forced himself to swallow his anger.
