"Hi, you," Shu Ran said, "you're right, she's truly a beauty."
Yun Li looked at him with a faint smile. "You, you look quite handsome as well."
The two chatted casually while Shu Ran sat in a booth nearby with Cheng Zhou.
"See? I picked well!" Shu Ran said proudly.
Cheng Zhou merely glanced at her, one hand resting on her shoulder while the other held a wine glass, his posture exuding an air of elegance.
"Weren't you saying that the one with the surname Fu is a better match for her?"
"Can Yun Li handle two men at once?"
Shu Ran covered her mouth and chuckled. "What’s there to handle? One online and one in reality."
Cheng Zhou's gaze on her deepened. Suddenly, he said, "Shu Ran, let me see your phone."
Shu Ran was completely unbothered and tossed her phone to him. "Feel free to look."
As Cheng Zhou examined the phone in his hands, his eyes remained fixed on her, lingering on the earrings she wore. He set down his glass and hooked a finger around one of the earrings. "I meant another one."
Shu Ran tensed up immediately.
She blinked in confusion, smiling innocently. "The other one is for work; there are many male clients, so I can't delete it."
"Oh? Then why is there a secondary account on your work phone?" Cheng Zhou asked, his tone casual yet probing. "Firefighter, fitness coach, swimming instructor, basketball player..."
Shu Ran was taken aback. "Did you peek at my phone?"
Cheng Zhou smiled with a hint of mischief in his eyes as he stared at her; the intensity of his gaze was overwhelming.
Bai Zhousheng had recommended this special cocktail to Yun Li, who tasted it and nodded in approval.
Around nine o'clock in the evening, Yun Li decided to head back, and Bai Zhousheng accompanied her.
Once they arrived at the hotel, he left without making anyone uncomfortable.
Back in her hotel room, Yun Li drank some warm water and pressed her aching head before calling Shu Ran.
In the other room, the indoor swimming pool shimmered under the lights, with waves growing larger as they reached the far end of the pool.
Shu Ran leaned against the edge of the pool, a towel separating her back from the hard surface, reducing the sharp friction.
Her phone rang on the chair, and she patted Cheng Zhou's broad back, signaling that she had a call. Cheng Zhou's nose brushed against the sensitive spot behind her ear, his breath warm against her long, fair neck. His strong arms encircled Shu Ran tightly, the hard muscles creating a firm hold around her. She wrapped her slender arms around his shoulders, her graceful curves completely obscured by his body.
"Wait a moment," he said in a hoarse voice, nibbling on Shu Ran's earlobe. "How was your experience in the pool?"
Shu Ran nodded, her voice trembling slightly. Cheng Zhou maintained his strong grip and chuckled softly. "Next time, let's try it with you in workout clothes."
Flustered and embarrassed, Shu Ran felt a mix of anger and shyness; she had let her guard down and he had caught her off-guard.
On the other end, Yun Li had not answered the call and did not try again. With Cheng Zhou around, she felt assured that nothing would happen to her.
After taking a shower, she opened her phone to scroll through her social media feed. Her finger paused at the latest post from Bai Zhousheng—a selfie taken in the bathroom while looking into the mirror.
A towel was wrapped around his lower body, while his upper half was still damp from the shower. Water droplets glistened on his skin, and his wet hair was tousled upwards. For some reason, he looked even more enticing than earlier that day.
Suddenly, Yun Li recalled what Jiang Shiyu had said. She closed her eyes, feeling despondent.
She realized that she must have been single for too long. Now everything she saw seemed tainted by that lingering emptiness.
