Jiang Shiyu received news and went to the hospital. Upon entering the ward, he greeted Chi Zhi Yu's teammate, who acknowledged him briefly before leaving.
Chi Zhi Yu lay on the hospital bed, looking frail with numerous injuries on his face, yet he smiled brightly. "Why are you here?"
Jiang Shiyu frowned as his gaze fell on Chi Zhi Yu's hand. There was a missing finger; the spot where his pinky used to be was wrapped in white bandages, leaving him with only four fingers.
Noticing Jiang Shiyu's stare, Chi Zhi Yu raised his hand casually, brushing it off. "It's just one finger missing. What’s the big deal? I can still catch drug dealers."
Jiang Shiyu pulled a chair over and sat down. "Have you ever thought about quitting this line of work and living a good life for yourself?"
Chi Zhi Yu smirked at him, looking quite disheveled—there was no other way to describe him. "And what about you? Have you thought about letting go and living your own life?"
The two locked eyes, both seeing impossibility reflected in each other's gaze.
Chi Zhi Yu stared at the ceiling, seemingly lost in thought. "You're better off than I am; at least you're still alive."
Jiang Shiyu stepped into the hallway to take a call. Shi Yi's voice was unusually filled with anger. "Jiang Yuan and the others would rather pay exorbitant penalties to leave. Was that your suggestion?"
"Manager Shi," Jiang Shiyu replied coldly, exuding absolute pressure. "You should have considered this day when you were doing those things."
"I merely altered the medical records, and you want to wipe me out? Have you lost your mind? Haven't the trials of these years matured you?"
"Shi Yi," he called her by name directly. "You never mentioned her situation when she was bullied at work."
Shi Yi gritted her teeth, suppressing her emotions as she said, "My choice back then was right. I didn’t tell you because I was afraid you'd lose control like today."
"If you knew her condition, would you still have the heart to have Hao Hao finish his studies and work for me? No, your mind is entirely on her; you can't see anyone or anything else. You fool! How could I have such a useless son like you?"
After saying that, Shi Yi could no longer contain herself and shouted angrily.
She even began to regret giving birth to him.
This wasn’t the first time she had regretted it.
Jiang Shiyu brushed it off. "Back then, you and that old man took advantage of my weakness and lack of power; now it’s time for you both to experience being bullied."
A sense of unease grew within Shi Yi; her beautiful peach blossom eyes were filled with fury as she maintained her calm tone. "Do you think bringing them along can stop me? There are plenty of talents out there; in just a few years, Feitian can achieve miracles again."
Leaning against the white wall of the hospital, Jiang Shiyu's voice became even lower in the quiet atmosphere. The lighter in his hand clicked repeatedly as he smirked mockingly. "Do you still think I'm that naive kid from before? The one who hasn't progressed is you."
"As long as I want it, you won't be able to create anything."
Suddenly, Shi Yi laughed out loud. No wonder he inherited your grandfather's blood; he was becoming increasingly calculating.
"You forced me into this."
He had no intention of getting involved in their struggles. All he wanted was a simple life, happily together with the one he loved. They were the ones who had destroyed his happiness, forcing him to scheme for years.
After benefiting from me for so long, it was time to pay the price.
"Are you ready to accept failure, Shi Yi?"
The call ended, but Shi Yi's grip on the phone remained unchanged, a wave of fear sweeping over him instantly.
It dawned on her.
Yes! He was Jiang Zesheng and Shi Zongming's bloodline; how could he be easily slaughtered? He had always held himself high, his mind more mature and clever than his peers. He could never live like an ant.
So he had never submitted from the very beginning; he was lurking, gathering strength, waiting for the right moment. Now was the perfect time.
Jiang Yuan came to see him at the hospital.
"Brother, we’re all set; only Huang Min is still at Feitian."
"Brother, I’ll go persuade her again. We agreed on this long ago; it’s unjust for her to back out just because Manager Shi offered her more."
Jiang Yuan was both anxious and furious. After fighting side by side for so many years, how could they betray each other over a small amount of money?
Jiang Yuan shouted angrily, "When we were in America, so many white people offered high prices to keep us there, but we didn’t accept. Even when we were oppressed and bullied, we resolutely followed you to build our homeland. Have all those years of loyalty been forgotten? Traitors!"
Jiang Shiyu reached for a cigarette but restrained himself.
"Forget her. Tomorrow you all report to Lan Yun; Qin Nianzhe will take care of you."
Lan Yun Technology, founded nine years ago as a drone manufacturing company, had expanded into the helicopter market in recent years and was gaining momentum with military collaborations.
Nine years ago, three young men began their journey in the domestic drone industry: Qin Nianzhe, Xu Jiaxing, and Zhang Mingyu. Jiang Shiyu held down the fort as Lan Yun Technology's hidden powerhouse.
Qin Nianzhe was the nominal leader; fearing being targeted by the Shi Family, Jiang Shiyu had to remain hidden. Over the years, Lan Yun had thrived and become a leader in the drone industry.
Shi Yi would never have guessed that Jiang Shiyu had started fighting back back then.
At Xiangyuan No. 1, Jiang Shiyu ran into Huang Min at the door. He appeared relaxed as if he had known she would come.
He opened the door and said, "Come in!"
The Director circled around Jiang Shiyu, wanting him to pick it up. Jiang Shiyu bent down and struggled a bit to hold it in his arms. "You really need to eat less from now on," he said.
Sitting on the sofa, the Director settled on his lap, the warmth from where it pressed against him made it unnecessary to turn on the heating. Jiang Shiyu lowered his gaze to groom its fur while Huang Min stood across from him, watching intently.
He lifted his chin slightly. "Feel free."
Huang Min was nervous, her fingers clenched tightly as she took a deep breath to prepare herself. "Aren't you going to ask me why I don't want to?"
"I don't want to," he replied simply.
Huang Min bit her lip, feeling a bit reluctant. "You’ve been broken up for so many years; why don’t you want to consider someone else?"
"If it's not possible, then it's not possible. That doesn't stop me from loving her," Jiang Shiyu's voice was cold, which made Huang Min's heart ache.
She nodded slowly. "Aren't you afraid I'll tell Manager Shi everything?"
Jiang Shiyu's indifferent gaze fell lightly on her. "Huang Min, I trust your character. If you wanted to say something, you would have done so when she came to talk to you."
Huang Min was taken aback, her clenched fists relaxing. "You still trust me?"
Jiang Shiyu looked at her with a light expression, devoid of any distractions, yet there was a friendly warmth towards a comrade. "Don't forget that we fought side by side."
Feeling relieved, Huang Min thought that was enough for her.
"I'm leaving now; when should I report to Lan Yun?"
"They will let you know," Jiang Shiyu replied.
She nodded in agreement.
