Shi Yi arranged for someone in Beijing to provide her with information.
When Jiang Shiyu saw the news, he immediately booked a flight and flew back overnight. He didn't even have time to adjust to the time difference; his eyes were bloodshot from exhaustion. Yet, the thought of seeing her filled him with strength. After watching her performance, he rushed back to the United States, where his mentor urged him to return. He not only had to excel in his studies but also had to focus on her. He was incredibly tired; his stomach issues stemmed from this exhaustion.
I remember one time he encountered a riot on his way back home, coinciding with one of the most chaotic times in America, where real guns were involved. Although he had protection, he still got shot, just above his right chest. He fell into a coma for several days; my memories of that time are a bit hazy. I recall he lay there for a long time before he was out of danger.
I'm an emotional person, and when I found out, it truly broke my heart. I wanted to tell you the truth, but Jiang Shiyu wouldn't allow it. He was too proud to show his vulnerabilities in front of you and didn't want to become a burden.
During those years, I was in England, arranged for an engagement that I couldn't escape from. Even if I wanted to explain things to you, there was no opportunity. I thought he would bring you back, but unexpectedly, that never happened.
Yun Li lowered her head, covering her eyes with her hands as silent tears slipped through her fingers. She bit her lower lip, her shoulders shaking violently as she cried, struggling to catch her breath. She thought she was the only one suffering, but in reality, they were all struggling; none of them were doing well. She wasn't the only one in pain or feeling suppressed.
Shang Beibei wiped away her own tears and handed Yun Li a tissue. "I'm sorry for telling you this now," she said softly.
"It's not your fault," Yun Li choked out as she took the tissue.
"Is there more? I want to know everything." Her eyes were glistening with sadness.
Shang Beibei thought carefully before responding. "The workplace bullying you experienced before was also something he resolved."
Yun Li nodded. "I know."
"Do you know how he obtained the evidence? The Team Leader at that time had significant backing."
To take him down would mean a complete overhaul of the entire dance community in Beijing.
Yun Li knew a little about it; many leaders were replaced after he was captured.
Jiang Shiyu had no connections in this regard; he had to plead with his mother, Shi Yi, for help. At that time, she had been concealing her true abilities, and if she intervened, Elder Shi would surely take notice.
When Jiang Shiyu received the news, he was participating in a particularly important competition. He couldn't care less about the contest and left immediately. His mentor tried to persuade him to stay, but he replied, "I'm sorry, I have to go back."

Jiang Shiyu felt a surge of anger that made his chest ache. This was why every time he saw her, she always looked so unhappy. He began to regret and loathe himself for not being able to protect her.
"So you just let things develop like this? What happened to your promise? You said you would keep her safe, but you failed."
Furious, Jiang Shiyu hung up the phone. After landing, he opened his phone and saw the latest news: "Yun Li Almost Kidnapped." The headline sent his blood boiling; his eyes darkened with rage.
Shi Yi immediately called him to calm down. But Jiang Shiyu couldn’t be calmed; he personally led a team to find the two men involved. He broke one of their hands.
The two men confessed that the mastermind behind it all was the Former Captain. Afterward, he insisted that Shi Yi take action.
"Are you crazy? You're exposing everything I've planned for years just for her."
Jiang Shiyu's eyes glinted with cold fury. "I can promise you that I will develop an early warning system within five years if you take him down and send him away."
After that, he hired people to secretly protect Yun Li; he no longer believed Shi Yi's empty words.
Shang Beibei remarked that Jiang Shiyu was trying to shorten the development time of military aircraft in exchange for her assistance, but it was futile—how could Shi Yi possibly agree? When she refused, Jiang Shiyu knelt outside her door all night until she finally relented and agreed to help. Originally projected to take ten years, Shi Yi managed to cut that time in half.
They signed a contract stipulating that if he failed to deliver, he would owe Shi Yi a lifetime of service.
He would lose his freedom and would not be able to enter the Aerospace Research Institute. Yun Li felt a chill run down her spine; her hands trembled uncontrollably. She couldn't bear to think about how he had endured all these years. He was such a proud person, reduced to kneeling before others, even before his mother, who was only connected to him by blood.
