Jiang Shiyu never expected that the guest invited by his grandfather would be Yun Li's family.
He went upstairs but didn't see Yun Li; instead, he found his grandfather and Uncle Yun playing chess on the terrace.
He walked over, "Grandpa."
Jiang Ze's expression changed instantly upon seeing Jiang Shiyu; the smile on his face vanished. "What are you doing back here?"
Jiang Shiyu was speechless. "I came home!"
Realizing he had misspoken, Jiang Ze glanced at Yun Zheng, who had to introduce the two: "A Yu, this is your Uncle Yun, the chess friend I mentioned."
So Uncle Yun was Yun Li's dad.
Jiang Shiyu straightened up and said, "Hello, Uncle Yun."
Yun Zheng had met Jiang Shiyu before; back then, he was still somewhat youthful, embodying a rebellious spirit typical of university students.
Now, he had shed that youthful appearance and matured, his features sharper. The arrogance of his teenage years had faded, leaving him polite yet charmingly confident.
Yun Zheng liked him very much and smiled as he said, "Hello, hello! I often hear your grandfather talk about your achievements. Young people like you are truly remarkable."
Jiang Shiyu looked at his grandfather, feeling a bit anxious. "What achievements?"
Jiang Ze shot him a glance. "Oh, are you nervous? It's about your math competition in high school and all the awards you've received since entering university. You're currently working at the Aerospace Research Institute—so impressive!" Yun Zheng genuinely praised him.
Jiang Shiyu sighed in relief and smiled lightly. "It's nothing much."
Deng Ting came upstairs calling out, "Dinner's ready! You can continue your game later!"
Old Jiang stood up and said, "Alright, let's go eat."
As he walked downstairs with Yun Zheng, they were busy boasting about their chess skills to each other.
Yun Zheng smiled and nodded in agreement, "Yes, yes! Uncle, you're still a treasure."
Old Jiang was pleased while Jiang Shiyu's gaze wandered around the room.
When Old Jiang reached downstairs and didn’t see Yun Li, he asked Mother Wang, "Little Wang, has Hao Hao woken up?"
"Oh dear! I forgot! I'll go call him right now."
Mother Wang hurried upstairs just as Yun Li came out looking rather unwell. Mother Wang noticed and asked with concern, "What's wrong? Did you not sleep well?"
Yun Li's complicated expression lightened as she replied, "I slept well."
Mother Wang felt relieved and suggested, "Then let's go eat."
Yun Li went downstairs to the dining room and saw Jiang Shiyu. At that moment, the old man was seated at the head of the table, with Yun Zheng and Deng Ting on his right, and Jiang Shiyu on his left. There was an empty seat next to her.
Yun Li walked over and sat down.
Jiang Ze used the serving chopsticks to place some braised pork on Yun Li's plate. "Hao Hao, eat more vegetables. You're too thin. Although it's for work, you still need to take care of your health."
"Thank you, Grandpa Jiang."
Old Jiang's gaze remained fixed on Yun Li, completely ignoring his own grandson beside him.
Deng Ting, worried that Jiang Shiyu might feel neglected, redirected the conversation to him. "A Yu, how old are you now?"
"Auntie, I'm twenty-nine."
"That's the same age as our Hao Hao," Deng Ting continued. "What month were you born in?"
"May fifteenth."
"That makes you a few months older than Hao Hao."
Yun Zheng sighed, "Time flies; it feels like just yesterday when I last saw A Yu—wasn't it eight or nine years ago?"
Jiang Shiyu replied, "More like ten years ago."
Deng Ting exclaimed in surprise, "Wow, has it really been that long? Time waits for no one."
As everyone enjoyed their meal and chatted about everyday life, the atmosphere felt warm and joyful to Jiang Shiyu.
After finishing their meal, Old Jiang and Yun Zheng decided to continue their unfinished chess game. Before heading upstairs, Old Jiang urged him to leave, saying, "A Yu, there's nothing for you here; go back to your research institute!"
Hao Hao was busy with work.
Despite not being welcomed to stay, he stubbornly refused to leave.
Jiang Shiyu lazily followed them upstairs. "I've already finished my work; it's my vacation now. I want to spend more time with you."
While Jiang Shiyu observed the chess game from the side, Yun Li stayed behind in the living room, sitting on the sofa and watching television.
