“Dad, you all go ahead! I’ll go find Yu Meng and the others to hang out.”
“You have plenty of time to play with Yu Meng and the others. Grandpa Jiang has been wanting to see you for a long time. He’s been talking about you and praising how amazing you are.”
Yun Li could only follow along. In the old house, it was just the old man and Mother Wang, who had been there for over a decade; all the other servants were on holiday.
Yun Zheng and Deng Ting brought some items with them. Mother Wang greeted them with a smile, “Please come in! This must be Yun Li, the little girl? She’s so beautiful!”
Yun Li smiled gently, her almond-shaped eyes crinkling with delight. “Thank you.”
Jiang Zesheng had been waiting eagerly; upon hearing their voices, he quickly stood up and came over. The moment he saw Yun Li, his cloudy eyes brightened.
“Finally, you’re here!”
The three of them changed their shoes and went inside. “Uncle Jiang, here’s your Pu-erh tea. It’s really good!” Yun Zheng said while patting the packaging box.
Jiang Zesheng smiled, “Why bring something? You could have just come over.”
“I didn’t prepare anything special for you,” he added.
“Uncle Jiang, look at you! I brought good tea without expecting anything in return, yet you think this way of me,” Yun Zheng teased back.
The two exchanged playful banter as if they were long-time friends. After all, they had been playing chess together for five or six years now. Moreover, during Yun Li’s absence, Jiang Zesheng often had meals with the Yun family and would go downstairs to the park to play chess with everyone afterward.
The old man was in good spirits and health; he hadn’t fallen ill in the past two years. It was still early for lunch, so he and Yun Zheng began boasting about their chess skills, each claiming to be better than the other and insisting on a match.
They set up a game on the balcony while Yun Li watched from the side out of boredom, and Deng Ting went to the kitchen to prepare some snacks.
Seeing her parents so familiar with each other made Yun Li realize they must have spent quite a bit of time together. She hadn’t slept well the night before and yawned while propping her chin up, casually munching on sunflower seeds.
Noticing her tired expression, Jiang Zesheng said, “Hao Hao, why don’t you take a break? You young people have a lot of work pressure; you need to rest more.”
Yun Li felt a bit awkward since it was her first visit. She smiled and shook her head. “No need, Grandpa Jiang.”
Yun Zheng looked up and noticed the dark circles under her daughter's eyes were indeed more pronounced. She was already fair-skinned, and with makeup on, the dark circles stood out even more.
"Hao Hao, don't be shy. Just treat Grandpa Jiang's house like your own. Go rest for a bit," Yun Zheng said.
Yun Li smiled, thinking to herself that her mother was quite hospitable.
"Hao Hao, you can go rest in A Yu's room. He hasn't stayed at home for a while, and Mother Wang changes the sheets every week. The bed is clean; you can take a nap there," Jiang Zesheng suggested.
Yun Zheng felt quite pleased after scoring a point against him. Old Jiang exclaimed, "Hey, that doesn't count! I wasn't paying attention; I just got back."
Yun Zheng quickly grabbed the old man's hand, "Uncle, you still want to play tricks in front of the kids?"
Old Jiang chuckled and rubbed his nose, explaining, "Hao Hao, Grandpa usually isn't like this."
Yun Li found it amusing. She stood up and said, "You all take your time. I'm going to rest for a bit."
Instead of going to Jiang Shiyu's room, Yun Li sat down on the sofa in the living room and leaned back to catch some sleep.
Mother Wang came out and noticed her. "Yun Li, are you feeling tired?" she asked.
Yun Li half-opened her eyes and nodded, "A little."
"Then don't sleep here! I'll take you to a room to rest," Mother Wang insisted.
Yun Li declined, "No need; I can just nap here for a bit."
It wouldn't be comfortable if she fell asleep here; she needed a proper bed to sleep well. The family of Mr. and Mrs. didn't stay here, so the rooms weren't made up. Young Master A Yu's room was still the same as before; I changed the sheets myself, so it's clean. Young Master A Yu has been busy with work during his break, so it's fine if you take a nap there.
