I never intended to settle; I just feel that marriage is the same with anyone, as long as the other person's character is up to par.
Shu Ran sat beside her and asked, "Then why don't you accept Senior He?"
Yun Chen paused for a few seconds before replying, "Senior He is different. He truly likes me; I can feel it. In the past, I thought he was just taking care of me as a junior sister and friend, but ever since he made his feelings clear, I realized it was more than just friendship. If I agree to be with him now, it wouldn't be fair to him. I only have respect for Senior He."
Over time, this disparity would only grow larger, and eventually, the relationship would crumble.
Shu Ran listened and sighed softly. She patted Yun's shoulder and leaned against her. "I hope you can open your heart soon and let him in."
On Monday afternoon, as the clock ticked past two, everyone had left, but Yun was still rehearsing in the Wu Fang studio. She had practiced many times and had it completely memorized, yet she couldn't afford to relax.
He Lin Cheng watched from the side as they discussed and learned from each other. Senior He was indeed a great partner who could help identify problems she couldn't see, and he was responsible and patient.
Around seven o'clock, they stepped outside together. He Lin Cheng invited her again, "Let's go have dinner! It's too late to cook for ourselves."
On the road, September still felt hot. Yun held her handbag with some hesitation. In the past, she would have agreed without a second thought; having dinner with a friend was no problem. But now it felt different.
Noticing her inner conflict, He Lin Cheng said seriously, "Yun, I hope you can face my pursuit honestly. I know you have concerns; don’t be afraid to share them with me."
She bit her lip lightly and replied, "Senior, I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. If that happens, we won't even be able to remain friends. I cherish our friendship."
"Yun," he assured her, "I promise that whether or not we end up together won't affect our relationship. I will still be your senior. And I'm confident that I can make you like me, so please don't keep rejecting me when it comes to your heart."
Yun stared at him blankly, her feelings tangled. Just as she was about to speak, a strong force pulled her back into a broad embrace.
The familiar scent of mint filled her senses as his deep voice resonated beside her ear. "No, don’t get carried away with fantasies."
He Lin Cheng frowned; his temper only flared when dealing with Jiang Shiyu. "Jiang Shiyu, you have no right to speak for Yun."
Yun pushed him, but when she couldn't budge him, she resorted to digging her nails into the flesh of his arm.
Jiang Shiyu didn't even furrow his brows as he endured it, his gaze lowered and fixed on her, resembling a protective wolf guarding its young.
"I don't have one, do you? Didn't you hear her say just now that she only wants to be friends with you?"
He Lin Cheng clenched his fists; if Yun weren't in his arms, he would have thrown a punch.
"But at least I hold a position as a friend in Yun's life. What about you? What do you have?"
He Lin Cheng's words enraged him, and he stepped forward to hit him, but Yun quickly grabbed his arm tightly, preventing him from acting impulsively.
"Enough! Can you stop acting like a rabid dog and biting everyone?" Yun shouted angrily.
Jiang Shiyu paused, and Yun knew that staying there for even a second longer would lead to a fight between the two of them. So she turned to leave.
It had to be quick; Jiang Shiyu no longer cared about He Lin Cheng and chased after her.
With his long legs, he caught up in just two or three strides and lifted Yun off the ground.
Yun struggled against him, hitting his arms that were restraining her waist and stomach, her feet flailing in the air. "Are you crazy? Let me go!"
He opened the car door and shoved her inside.
Seeing this, He Lin Cheng rushed over to stop him, but just as he got close, the car door slammed shut with a bang, and Jiang Shiyu turned around and threw a punch at him.
Caught off guard, He Lin Cheng fell to the ground.
He was already on the slimmer side; even though he practiced martial arts regularly, he couldn't compete with Jiang Shiyu's fitness level. Blood began to seep from the corner of his mouth.
Yun struggled desperately with the car door, shouting, "Jiang Shiyu, are you insane?" The door was locked tight and wouldn't budge.
With a cold expression, Jiang Shiyu got into the car. By the time He Lin Cheng realized what was happening, the vehicle was already pulling away.
He was driving a black sports car; even if He Lin Cheng wanted to chase after them, his sedan couldn't keep up—especially since his own car was still in the shop for repairs.
Frustrated, He Lin Cheng kicked a nearby tree with all his might and cursed under his breath.
