The subway was crowded, with no seats available, and the three of them could only stand. People were pressed against each other. Jiang Shiyu stood behind Yun Li, his chest pressed against her back. There was barely any space, and next to Yun Li was He Lin Cheng, their arms tightly brushing against one another.
Jiang Shiyu reached out, wrapping his entire arm around Yun Li, his palm resting on her shoulder as he pulled her closer. Yun Li turned her head back to glare at him, mouthing the words: "Let go."
Jiang Shiyu merely grinned mischievously, raising an eyebrow as if to say he wouldn’t let go.
Yun Li felt like she would be driven mad by him in just two short hours. Holding her breath in frustration, she stepped on his sneaker with the heel of her sports shoe, using all her strength. Yet Jiang Shiyu's expression remained unchanged throughout.
His arm only tightened around her. The fabric of their summer clothes was thin; Yun Li was wearing a loose blue linen tank top. Her back pressed firmly against his warm chest, and she could clearly feel his body heat and the sensation of his touch.
Yun Li was both angry and embarrassed, her eyes lowered as she rubbed her foot against his shoe in vain. But he wouldn’t budge. She felt exasperated; after all, it wasn’t like they could start a fight on the subway! If only she had worn a pair of stiletto heels today, she would have crushed him.
He Lin Cheng observed the scene with a complex expression in his eyes.
After half an hour, they arrived at Yun Li's stop. A wave of people surged forward, and Yun Li was nearly pushed out of the way. It was Jiang Shiyu who wrapped an arm around her shoulders and guided her through the crowd.
Yun Li didn’t even have time to greet He Lin Cheng before being swept away by the throng. He waved goodbye to her from inside the train just as the doors closed.
Jiang Shiyu's cool voice broke the silence: "What’s so interesting?"
Yun Li looked up at him; he showed no sign of discomfort at all, which only fueled her anger further. She reached out and pinched his arm hard.
This time he finally felt pain, frowning slightly and hissing in surprise. "You really can be ruthless!"
Yun Li felt a surge of satisfaction and raised an eyebrow at him in triumph. "You deserve it."
Then she turned away from him. Jiang Shiyu rubbed the spot where she had pinched him; suddenly feeling relieved from the pressure that had built up earlier, he smiled broadly and hurried after her.
"Yun Li," he said playfully, "you’re not allowed to ride in my car anymore. You’re too much."
Yun Li ignored him as she stepped into the elevator. Jiang Shiyu stood beside her, tilting his head to look at her. "Did you hear me?"
Yun Li stared up at the ceiling, her tone flat: "No."
Once they reached the top floor, Yun Li exited first. Jiang Shiyu took a long stride to catch up with her, gripping the back of her neck to turn her around so that she had to face him directly.
"You are not allowed to get in his car, you can't take him home, and you can't have dinner alone with him. Do you understand?"
Yun Li frowned as people passing by cast curious glances at them. Feeling uncomfortable, she could only respond dismissively, "I heard you, I heard you."
Jiang Shiyu smiled in satisfaction and let go of her.
Yun Li walked ahead in silence, but he continued to follow her. When they reached the entrance of the community, he still trailed behind her. She turned around and glared at him angrily. "Are you done? Are you too free? If you're so free, go back to your company and work overtime."
Jiang Shiyu chuckled lightly and shrugged. "I quit a long time ago. How did you know I used to work at Feitian?"
"Oh, I see! Did you sneak a peek at the video of my press conference?"
Yun Li felt that his shamelessness was growing by the day; not only could she not shake him off, but he also seemed to gain confidence with every word.
"Who was sneaking a peek? The news is broadcast every day. I'm not living under a rock; it's hard not to see it."
"Is that so?" He took a couple of steps closer, his eyes sparkling with amusement and an unusual gentleness. Yun Li sensed something was off about him as he slightly lowered his head and asked, "Do I look handsome in a suit? Does it make your heart flutter a bit?"
"I didn’t look closely; how would I know?"
She pushed him away and turned to walk inside. "Don't follow me."
Jiang Shiyu tried to catch up but was stopped by the security guard, who had already been keeping an eye on them. Having just overheard Yun Li's words, he became instantly alert. There had been a security incident here before, and the victim seemed to be that woman from earlier. He needed to stay vigilant; he couldn't let anything like that happen again or he would end up like the guy on duty last time—fired.
Jiang Shiyu called out to Yun Li as he brushed past the guard, "The director's things are still with you."
Yun Li replied, "I'll bring them over."
She borrowed a cart from the delivery station and loaded all of the director's belongings, including the clothes she had bought for him, onto it. It took her half an hour to come back down.
She pointed at the items on the cart and said, "Take them!"
One was inside while the other was outside. Jiang Shiyu couldn't help but chuckle at the situation.
